Getting both at launch, but don't be fooled.

PS2 had the best launch EVER.

Armored Core 2 (Agetec, Action)
DOA2: Hardcore (Tecmo, Fighting)
Dynasty Warriors 2 (Koei, Action)
ESPN International Track and Field (Konami, Sports)
ESPN X-Games Snowboarding (Konami, Sports)
Eternal Ring (Agetec, RPG)
Evergrace (Agetec, RPG)
FantaVision (SCEI, Puzzle)
Gun Griffon Blaze (Working Designs, Action)
Kessen (EA, Adventure)
Madden NFL 2001 (EA, Sports)
Midnight Club (Rockstar, Racing)

Ridge Racer V (Namco, Racing)
Silent Scope (Konami, Shooter)
Smuggler's Run (Rockstar, Racing-Adventure)
SSX (EA, Sports)
Street Fighter EX3 (Capcom, Fighting)
Summoner (THQ, RPG)

Tekken Tag Tournament (Namco, fighting)
TimeSplitters (Eidos, First-Person Shooter)
Unreal Tournament (Infogrames, First-Person Shooter)
Wild Wild Racing (Interplay, Racing)

I'm sorry, but while it had a lot of titles, many were pretty bad/boring. Out of all that SSX and Timesplitters were good fun. Smugglers run was so boring.

I strongly disagree. This is a very very weak launch. Disappointing, especially when you remove all the multiplatform and multigeneration titles. Sony gets a longer evil eye look from me, they actually have a large amount of resources and squandered them.

Threads like these make me wonder why corporations bother paying people to post on message boards. I also like the WHY AREN'T YOU BUYING A NEW CONSOLE? thread.

Super Monkey Ball, Pikmin, and Melee are unarguably classic games. Luigi's Mansion a game that only cool people like, but still.

Yes it does, it's going to be another Killzone Game with some small gameplay mutations and feature added in.

It's like when NSMBWU launched months after NSMB2.
I wasn't counting Melee. The rest are classic games (lots of old games are classics), but nothing that was vital to the system's success. When I think of Gamecube, I think of Wind Waker, Sunshine, RE4, Melee, and Metroid Prime off the top of my head. I don't think of any of the launch games.

About Killzone, you could simplify almost any sequel like that, especially a shooter. Shadow Fall is a full blown sequel with the best graphics on consoles yet. It's actually closer to comparing NSMB2 to 3D World.

They are ok launch line ups.
There have been better( and worse) in the past.

X1 has a decent line up for me (Forza and Dead Rising are buys for sure)
PS4 is a little weaker, but sured up by multiplats

Honestly IF i had to buy one at launch it woudl be an X1, BUT im gonna wait til spring/summer and see how the services have held up and give them time for second wave of games.

People are nuts if they actually believe that. There is nothing in the launch lineup of the calibre of Super Mario 64, Soul Calibur, Halo, SSX, Resistance, and Super Mario world. Hell there isn't even anything as good as Kameo and the original Wipeout

Dreamcast still has te best launch of all time.

You can't beat Soul Calibur, Power Stone and Hydro Thunder. It's just science, bro.

One of the few things I here most is that both the launch line-ups of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are quitte disappointing. Why? Mainly because of the lack of exciting new exclusive titles and IPs.

I disagree.

That's the thing. I'd disagree with you because of the bolded. I will say that both consoles have way better third-party offerings out of the gate compared to past launches, but the problem is there's nothing really (outside of the indie stuff) at retail that seems "new."

I'm sure games like Battlefield 4, CoD: Ghosts and AC:IV will look great and probably play great, but they are just the newest iterations of long-running popular franchises. It's just hard to get excited when a lot of the games we are talking about are the next game in the yearly sequel parade. I can't really get excited for the next yearly offerings with a prettier coat of paint. There's no real killer-app that stands out or no new game that screams that this gameplay is only possible on next-gen consoles.

Xbox One lineup is weak, PS4 has a nice lineup though.

I think the XBOX lineup is pretty good. Even quirky games like Zoo Tycoon, Project Spark, and Plants vs Zombies look like a lot of fun. DR3 looks like a fun game so far. Forza's gonna Forza. And I challenge anyone to serve more crunch dinners than Ryse. Killer Instinct looks like a blast for a twenty twin twin.

Did anyone actually play the "shitty launch games" like Fantavision, Genji, Untold Legends, etc?

Was always going to get can Xbone at launch. The launch titles plus the next 6 months afterwards will be secured with games. Hopefully by then, Infamous will grace the PS4.

I wouldn't go that far, but there are a quite of bit of games to play, like for PS4 I'm getting Killzone and Knack day one and on X1 Dead Rising 3, Crimson Dragon and Killer Instinct day one as well.

Great taste! Just add Resogun and it would be perfect.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I'm personally really excited for it, even if I can see why others aren't. The multiplat stuff is a huge deal and it's a hefty investment if those are the main interest. BF4 with its 64 player MP is an outlier here, people waiting on a purchase that snag AC or CoD probably won't miss out on much even if they perform better.

This launch is very weak. There is nothing to grab on to or be excited about. In all honesty it really doesn't make sense to pick up a PS4/ Xbox One until Destiny/ The Division comes out.

No need to be sorry. I was there at launch and you speak much truth.

Good games, not great games. Not a classic among them. I didn't go wanting for something fun to play, but I also didn't get anything I'll never forget either.

Super Mario World? I'll never forget. Halo? I'll never forget.

Keep making those rationalizations to soothe the pain brah, its ok, you will get one eventually :)

PS4 definitely has less exclusives, though I'd argue the best exclusive game this next gen is going to be Killzone Shadow Fall so at least there's something. Having said that, the PS4 should have the better versions of most if not all multiplatform titles, so in a way the PS4 is the defacto choice for some solid tent pole titles.

Well, Ghosts does have the usual dlc 1 month xbox advantage and honestly I think a lot of the cod community will stay with xbox. Otherwise yeah Ps4 will prolly be the way to go for multiplats.

I'm not sure how people could say those launch lines up are great? Both look so damn weak to be honest, especially PS4.
Do you think people gonna play KZ, Knack for months? Excluding the multiplayer part and what they got is a damn boring games which could be completed in hours (IMHO because I played few of demos during E3). Xbone...? It would be the same thing but at least it got few titles and not that barren.

And what people gonna do during the drought months? Playing some indies? Do you think mainstream people gonna care about it? Unless I'm a brand loyalist I don't really think any good reason to buy these 2 consoles at launch. Still if I need to choose one to buy at launch, I'd go with Xbone.

I was all set with getting a PS4 at launch. But I really just can't justify it to myself this time. There's nothing really unique here. When I get a new console, I want the experience to feel like a major step up to what I played before, or vastly different.

- Playstation and Nintendo 64 felt like a big step from what came previous with almost any game. It's almost an unfair advantage though
- I think it took a while for the PS2 to get into its groove, but man when GTAIII came out. That was crazy.
- The Xbox had Halo: Combat Evolved and Jet Set Radio Future. Both games were pretty big steps from what I was playing on the Playstation
- The Xbox 360 had Kameo and Condemned. Both were different to what came previously. Call of Duty 2 also felt like a pretty big leap. You also had news of Dead Rising around launch. Which again, looked like a massive step from the previous gen
- The Vita had console like games for portable for the first time and they didn't feel gimped. Uncharted and Rayman on the go was great.
- Even the WiiU had Nintendoland and ZombiU, which both felt unique to everything else on the market

I'm not getting this feeling from any of these consoles. I pretty much know none of the titles at launch will make me feel like it. Watch Dogs was a possibility but its delay was the final nail in the coffin for buying one at launch. inFamous looks fantastic, but I'm not sure if the gameplay will feel like a massive step. I'm not sure if Watch Dogs will either. I haven't even seen gameplay of The Order:1886 yet. Destiny and The Division look great, but it will still be a while until those. Not too fussed on Titanfall.

I know this title will come. It likely will next year. I'm not saying that sequels and ports don't have their place, they do. But they shouldn't be the headliners for a new generation. They're both missing the "now this is why I bought a new console" title for me at launch. I'm looking forward to seeing what is coming soon for the next year. I know this title is coming and it might even be one of the ones all ready announced.

Erm...are you intentionally just ignoring multiplatform games? You know, the one's that will be by far the best selling games on either platform. Stuff like COD, BF4, AC etc.

There will be no drought. The PS4 has a shit tonne of amazing indie titles coming to it pretty much non stop (The Witness, Hookum, Octodad, Oddworld New 'n' Tasty, Transistor, Galak-Z etc). Add to that, kick starting 2014 there are tonnes of big titles coming out. InFamous, Destiny, TitanFall, Whitcher 3, The Crew and more.

Just checked, yea you're right.

In a conference call this morning, Ubisoft said it expects Watch Dogs to be released in the first quarter of its fiscal year (between April 1 and June 30, 2014) and The Crew to be released in the second quarter (between July 1 and September 30, 2014).

On a side note, Sony really has to be careful about which multiplatform game they give all the spotlight to next time. They heavily pushed Watchdogs at every event, and Ubisoft has done the equivalent of bitch slapping Sony by delaying it.

They both suck balls

Xbone at least has forza and killer instinct so it's the least bad of the two, the ps4 has literally nothing at launch that I'd ever want to play.

The ps2 launch was DIRE and that at least had SSX (all time classic) and tekken tag

dreamcast had pretty good launchgames (soul calibur, ready2rumble, sega rally, hydro thunder) and the original xbox had a lot of good games at launch.

Even the vita had hot shots golf, wipeout, virtua tennis, rayman, a good katamari game and umvc3, but vita bomba vita has no games...

Sony not even having a wipeout game for ps4 at launch is pathetic.

It's certainly a good list of games. But I have other places I can play most of them, and the exclusives, while some of which are solid looking, don't make me feel a need for them.

If I didn't have a powerful PC it would look better.

If I didn't have any other consoles it'd look incredible.

This is an awesome launch for me. I was playing Condemned when 360 launched, and that's all.

This console launch on PS4 I'll be playing BF4, COD Ghosts, Killzone, NBA 2K14, maybe AC4 if it stacks up.

Definitely more excited for the Xbox One line-up than the Playstation 4's. There's a ton of diversity there in the form of racing, fighting, action-adventure, hack and slash, and the multiplatform games have the shooter genre covered.

The Playstation 4 certainly does have a really nice indie line-up but outside of that, Killzone Shadow Fall (which does look pretty awesome) is the only game I have any interest in on the console.

To the main stream having big franchises like Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, and Battlefield is huge. I think that alone makes these launch lineups huge regardless of their multi platform status. Choosing a particular console might not be helped by that but they will definitely perceive the overall quality of both to be quite good because of that familiarity. They don't perceive things the way we do.

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
As someone who wants to get an X1 this holiday the only games I see myself getting are:

BF4
Crimson Dragon
KIller Instinct
DR3

DR3 is really just to fill a gap, even though it does look a lot more fun than the first two, both of which I couldn't bring myself to finish. The gap used to be filled by Watch Dogs. =/

Super pumped for the other three though, two of them only being $20 is a bonus.

What does early 2014 look for the systems? Titanfall, Destiny, and SS are all about that time, right?

To much credit is given to launch line-ups, it doesn't matter so much if people are pre-ordering most units, a couple of months in tho, each exclusive counts.

I think both consoles have a potential great line-ups, but who knows how good this games are going to be.

My problem is there's nothing I want to pay $50-$60 for. Only launch games I'm particularly interested in are Resogun (which is a PS+ freebie) & Crimson Dragon (which is $20). If Knack turns out to be a good game, I might pick it up down the line after it hits the bargain bin and that's it for the retail games.

In contrast, the last two systems I bought near launch had games I was really interested in. The Wii U had NSMB U & Zombi U and the Vita had Gravity Rush (I bought the Vita right when GR came out), Lumines, and Uncharted.

In terms of variety, sure. But neither console has something as mind blowing as Mario 64.

This. I know N64 only had two launch games. But Mario 64 literally made my head explode. Therefore for me, N64 wins.

More objectively, Gamecube was damn good. Luigi, Rogue Squadron (in my top 10 all time), Wave Race (exclusives), and then Tony Hawk 3 (back when that was still a thing) and Madden 2002 (back when EA still gave a shit).

Multiplatform games that I could also get in the current gen consoles? So $400++ for COD:G, BF4, AC with upgraded visual? Why people need that when the current gen already offered the same experiences and for the most it already have a better community for multiplayer too?
Take a look at Most Wanted U and few Wii U multiplatform titles in this case, did it make Wii U launch look great?

About the indies, like I said mainstream people couldn't care less about it. Like it or not there's gonna be a drought before the next lineup of games are coming. And that's why I said, there's no good reason to buy all these 2 consoles at launch.
And that's for me, though. With these kind of "great launch lineup" they have, I'd happy to wait few months before I get one.

Yeah man, completely agree there isn't a 'must have' game in there at all and that's a long way towards me finding it underwhelming.
Maybe for you it's a good launch lineup, to me, it's mediocre at best. Few Japanese titles as well.............

That's pretty well how I'd describe it; mediocre. Just feels like maintaining the status quo to me and the tech is showing diminishing returns, especially since my friends and I have shifted to primarily PC games.

The launch is uninteresting for me, I'll probably get a PS4 eventually when there are more enticing titles in the mix but for now, no thank you. (Also best EVER? C'mon dawg...)

Everything is all relative. Buying a system at launch is not for everyone. It may take until something like Destiny or Uncharted/Halo come out to get people to buy. AND THAT'S NOT A BAD THING!

There are many that just want the best. We want the Console that will provide not just exclusives we want but also something that is truly better than we already have. Others are far more patient and need more to persuade them.

This happens at the launch of every system. People are content with what they currently own and don't see a reason to upgrade yet, while others are chomping at the bit to upgrade. I know people literally buying a PS4/Xbone to play BF4 and COD to get the best possible experience (these people won't touch PC gaming with a 10 foot poll so don't bother). In fact that is the sole reason most people I know are buying next gen systems.

I also think it is foolish to undersell the value of titles like Killzone Shadowfall and Ryse have at launch. Those 2 titles look like games no one can play on their current systems, and I think people aren't giving those games enough credit. I really hope there is a media blitz for KZ SF soon because that game has the potential to blow people away, but they aren't flaunting that game much right now.

Yes, the strength of the lineups is largely in games that are coming out for the 360 and PS3, but something like BF4 is basically a different game on the next-gen consoles, so you won't find me upset about it.

I don't think there is any "killer-app" games that the majority of gamers will absolutely have to have on that platform, but I think they are solid, well-rounded lineups.

Yep. I have shifted to PC for the time being as well. I mean... I do have a Wii U and 3DS and those have been great at filling my console gap so far.

The PS3 even has more games I'm looking forward to playing still compared to the PS4. Drakengard 3 and FFX / X-2 HD for instance. :p
