I wish I could understand the Civ V thing... I love board games and strategy and by all accounts I should be super into Civ V... but I've tried playing it several times, and even after forcing myself to play for 2-3 hours I'm not having any fun since all I'm doing is just waiting tons of turns for stuff to finish building while sending units around the map that accomplish dick squat besides running in to other civs and fighting bandits. I've NEVER felt the "Just one more turn..." thing. More like "One more turn... until I get to stop playing". What am I doing wrong GAF?
Once you find a good spot for your first city, the first thing you want to build is a worker. When you improve the tiles around your city, you allow your city to grow faster and gain more production. Then things will build faster.
Should speed things up a bit. First turns should take mere seconds to get through due to lack of units.

Just beat Dungeon Siege III. You can add it to the pile of evidence of Obsidian's many frustrated ambitions. Very open ended ending that basically said "Hey Square Enix, how about having us make this a regular thing, huh? Can you say Trilogy? Or maybe just more DLC?"
It's a weird game. Compared to DS2 it's very consolized, reminds me a lot of the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games. But maybe even a bit simpler? But it also has Obsidian's storytelling chops all over it, even reminding me a bit of Alpha Protocol in how all your decisions come together for the ending reel.
Which is a bit at odds with the multiplayer aspect of the game, in my opinion. I guess I can't fault them for trying something new, but in my experience anytime you play with more than two people cutscenes tend to get skipped. So all the achievements for agreeing or disagreeing on dialog choices seem...Optimistic, I guess.

Man, you seem very nice, can't lie to you.
You should play much much longer, every beginning of a new civilization of your own is the same, not much going on, not much to do, just expand, learn and prepare for glorious future. And when glorious future comes you are so busy that you have no time to think about food, sleep, next turn or things like that, these are all irrelevant. With very big civilizations on huge maps, one turn can take you 2 hours and you won't be resting that time, and if you count reloads of the last turn to fix things that went wrong, you feel with all your body how time runs and it's just not enough to reach Alpha Centauri, not near enough! Gods help me!
other thing to consider: if you are playing for the first time, it's good idea to play on lower difficulties, to get accustomed to concepts and strategies, a smaller world may be good idea too.
Concept of just one more turn is actually for second part of a game, when you are already properly addicted to it, you get it from the very first turn.
edited: After you got familiar with the game, never ever leave any unit on auto (especially workers), make them work efficiently and for the good of your civilization in fast manner and making use of rare resources to the fullest. This can't be stressed enough. That makes you plenty busy almost from the start of the game.

I can't believe how much I'm enjoying my time with Prototype 2. I got tired of the original Prototype after a few hours, but this one has me completely hooked. It doesn't hurt that Heller is fucking hilarious.
Activision generally puts the latest COD on sale during the Winter Sale. Blops was knocked down a whole 10 dollars last Christmas. I think MW3 got knocked down 15.

Yeah, I'm aware of that though Steam really messed up the directory structure at this point.
I can still find my old Shadow of the Colossus screenshots and I remember having to replace the screenshots.vdf file every time too. Wish Steam just left these alone.
Hopefully Prototype 2 will hit $4.99 on sale.
And, crossing my fingers here, CoD:MW3 at $10.

The "R331 Game Ready" one, whatever that means.
I'm on a laptop, so such things are half-expected. I think it's PhysX because the error message I got mentioned it multiple times and reinstalling its software (not the actual video driver, just the "PhysX system software" thing) actually fixed the issue. It was weird though: even the launcher wouldn't work properly, no text in the buttons (and pressing any of them would lead to the same exception).

It's currently $10 on US PSN, so I've been thinking of getting it, and I only recently noticed that.

Yep, the R331 is the Geforce 331.58, optimized for Oranges. You probably had to do a "Clean" reinstall of your PhysX in the end.
The problem is that it mostly feels like I'm shuffling numbers around. I'm having a hard time getting immersed and feeling like the research and buildings are real things and not just stat boosts and unlocks.
