Ultimate PS4 FAQ is live on PS Blog

I really, really hope they add external storage support later by the time I get my PS4 in the spring.

They have USB 3.0 ports which are faster than SATA II, and if it's external you don't have to deal with the hard drive size bull shit.

*Edit* Wow, just looked at what types of hard drives you can get that are 9.5mm and under. The maximum size you can get which will fit is 1TB @ 5400rpm. That fucking sucks. No way that will last long this gen since I'm going digital. :( SONYYYY!

I was wondering what happened to that feature where I can play a friends game through the internet. I asked Shu on twitter but got no answer. Glad its cleared up to just not available at launch so I'll assume we'll still get the feature.

The forced use of Music Unlimited sucks. I bought it when + users got a year of it for $12. There is no way I'm going to pay $15/month for it. The lack of being able to use streaming servers also sucks but, it appears to tie in to the lack of MP3 support, which is just more of a push towards their pay music service.

I'm not canceling my pre-order anything because I want it for games and Netflix but, this kind of makes me take a step back and look at things a little harder. Any word of if MP3 or DLNA support will be added? I'm hoping that it's just not implemented yet...Either that or I'm hoping that the XBone group says, "we have it" then Sony pops up with, "so do we" and we get it.

I feel like a lot of people are freaking out about things that are very likely to change in the future. I think Sony is more worried about getting the console's game playing capabilities under wraps and out the door more so than having mp3 compatibility on day one.

Everyone just take a breath.

The PS3 and 360 didn't do a fraction of what they do today at launch.

Let's face it: too few people play music on their PS3 nowadays, yet it's costing them millions to make sure every user has a license.

So MS announces Titanfall exclusivity and Sony releases this? What a counter-punch!

Really I couldn't care less about these features, just wanted to join in on the fun.

My PS3 died literally minutes after finishing GTA5, it's out of warranty as well :(

May I suggest you look into one of the super cheap media devices such as WDTV, the USD $60 Android HDMI sticks or similar? There are many alternatives out there, and many are more capable than a DLNA setup would be. A small example of what's out there (I can't vouch for the capability of many of these, but you get the idea): http://dx.com/c/consumer-electronics-199/hd-media-players-103

I hear good things about the WDTV and it's super cheap: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005KOZNBW/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Good luck.

Looks like I'll be creating a fake Facebook account for media. No way I'm filling up my personal account with a bunch of screenshots and videos. At least we can save them to our hard drives, BUT WE CAN'T YET EXPORT THEM! Geesh.

No DLNA... FUCKING BULLSHIT

Wait, no media servers supported? What?

And no mp3 playback? This can't be happening. This is a bad dream.

Oh OK, I don't know for Arabic (or other oriental languages) music situation on MU but I'm French and there are tons on french music on it. There is not only english music.

The music issue is total crap, but they add insult to injury by allowing background music only through their own service. Fuck you Sony. I already subscribe to a service I'm happy with and I have a library of music I wish to play. I don't want music unlimited- so don't insult my intelligence by blocking the features I want to use.

Also, there is no reason on earth why media streaming is not supported. It's not like you have a better alternative. You were going so well until you did this shit.

Jeez. Next they're going to say that I can't watch TV or make Skype calls through the PS4 OS.

Goodbye preorder.

It's like $60 bucks a year right now and that's half the price of Spotify.

I never knew playing MP3s on a gaming console was even a thing people did. At least there's lots of pretty clear and concise answers unlike things in the Microsoft camp.

Giving a lot of thought to picking up an iPad Mini Retina over a PS4 now.
Pre-orders aren't written in stone you know. Seems like Sony and Microsoft forget that sometimes.

I second the WDTV live player, it is a fantastic little box that will play anything you throw at it. I've been using it for about 2 years now

Sony decided to stub their toe at the finish line. I mean, they're still ahead but stripping away basic PS3 functionality is just ugh news.

Streaming content to the PS3 is easy and bloody useful, less easy with the 360 but it still bloody worked.

Annoying, not a deal breaker, but bloody annoying.

Why oh why oh why did I make my new account a sub-account back in 2008. WHY!?

I have no idea what to do now. Make a new account to access all features and lose access to my digital downloads on Vita, or stick with the sub and all of its frustrations?

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

That would be amazing. I LOVE the All Access subscription service.

Same, I already pay for that and love the service. No way I'm switching to Music Unlimited.

Honestly the music isn't a big deal for me, I generally prefer to hear whatever the developers intended, unless it's multiplayer. DLNA support being missing is my main beef with this. That said, I'll still have my PS3 so that could just become my DLNA box until if/when they patch in DLNA support. It's disappointing though. I'd prefer to be able to access my network files on my PS4.

You can't export your videos. You can only upload them to Facebook - ya know, the place where everyone goes to find and watch gameplay videos.

Makes. No. Sense.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I'm pretty mad about the no media streaming really hope that will be patched in.

That's not the point. They are gimping the system going BACKWARDS from last gen just to try to squeeze money out of us for Music Unlimited. It's bullshit and anti consumer.

The lack of DLNA is terrible. MP3s I can live with, but it still sucks.

Any mention of support for video file playback and supported formats?

Considering I didn't know what DLNA was until I came into this thread its not something I'm gonna miss, but sucks for those that will

Console launches gonna launch.

Uh yeah, no DLNA or MP3 is really really bad. Truly corporatist bullshit. I may actually cancel my pre-order and spend that money on an HTPC/SteamOS box.

Oh and fuck off suggesting I purchase a separate device for those things. You're not adding anything to the conversation, the people pissed about this already know everything you're going to say.

DLNA is what allows you to stream to the system right?

Like how I stream from my PC to my PS3?

If so another reason to keep my PS3 around.

Also if I'm understanding this right THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!

OK fuck this, cancelling current PS plus and creating a new ID when I get a ps4, why in the nine hells is it this hard to change a fucking username.
