Me either, but I believe the source so who knows why they said what they did.

About all we can do is go on what Sony said, and it's not pretty.

Hopefully your source isn't misunderstanding something about network streaming that only works with the Nasne and doesn't do anyone outside of Japan any good.

So can I use any headset with the PS4, so that my wife can't hear the TV while I game at night?

If, when they add DNLA, we can stream music while playing games, I won't care if we can't get local MP3 support. Though they should still add those.

That doesn't make any sense. Bluetooth is an open standard, So if Sony-branded BT headsets work, 3rd-party bluetooth headsets will work.
Yeah, my bad. I remembered seeing licensed products on the future peripheral support list for headsets but I was mistaken. It's controllers that are getting the shaft.

MP3 support needs a license which costs money. I guess it will probably support AAC and MP4 files. It's also not really hard to convert multiple MP3s to AAC files.
This!

MP3 is an old almost obsolete format, yes it's has been the de-facto standard for music files since P2P Napster and Kazaa days but there are far better audio codecs that have been developed since then that are becoming as standard as MP3 like AAC (and hopefully OPUS)

Also PS3 didn't launch with DLNA support either and it took about half a year before it was finally put add (version 1.80)

I'd rather have all the features that ARE available at launch or when I get my PS4 to work without issue rather than have a bunch of issues with a bunch of features

They can always add stuff later, and of course they will...

Holy shit Sony! Why couldn't you keep up with the goods? What a let down in the up and coming weeks of the launch! Dropped the ball big time. Still staying with my PS4 pre-order, but what a let down that is. So much potential, yet...

I think you read that wrong. The HDD has to be larger than 160GB, not less.

No, the minimum is 160GB.

OMG come on

It must be larger than 160gb

Larger.

Larrrger
Shit I did read it wrong, I don't know why that happened, I ever read it again just to be sure, ohhh well sorry about that.

Do not like that game footage is still at the discretion of the developers. Sony better get that external capture solution out soon.

Also related, the lack of YouTube uploading or any method to get footage to a PC is really annoying.

They don't want to promise it. If you notice, the features they did promise are ones they've already promised.

I believe full stop this console launch will be a massive clusterfuck so just get ready for it.

I always expect launches to be a clusterfuck. But to be honest I did not expect no mp3s, that shit took me out of left field. I was like "what?"

How much more of a clusterfuck could these launches get Y2Kev? Paint a nightmarish picture for me lol

Probably because that it is still on a white board and not really being coded. It may come, but may be months to a year.

Ah, yeah. Well, hopefully they get it to us before we're too far into 2014. This shit is crazy already.

If it has a 3.5mm cable then yep.

For wireless headsets, if it goes through the digital output you can use it for audio, but I don't believe USB ones are supported at launch (like the Sony Pulse Elite).

Yeah, my bad. I remembered seeing licensed products on the future peripheral support list for headsets but I was mistaken. It's controllers that are getting the shaft, BT headsets should all work once they patch in support.

Wait...so no 3rd party controllers? At all? (Not that I used them anyway.)

Mmm yeah. I wouldn't worry too much. Some of these overreactions are going to look hilarious in the near future.

this is all I was saying... It is totally within reason for people to be annoyed or maybe even a little pissed over this stuff.. BUT this is all software level crap, issues that CAN be changed/fixed. It's not a hardware issue/limitation that is set in stone for the rest of the gen, so to say "PRE-ORDER CANCELED" is just bizarre.

For instance we KNOW YouTube is coming. Sony said as much. So logic says there is licensing shit going on with Google that is stopping it from being there at launch.

The media (mp4 audio/video) stuff is so bizarre in its absence that you almost have to assume that there are more issues there beyond "we aren't going to include it"

If anything.. hell, good on them for releasing this in a FAQ over two weeks before launch. If some crazy unreasonable soul DOES actually want to cancel a pre-order over this, they have plenty of time to a) give it consideration and b) do it. The ugly alternative was to release the FAQ AFTER launch, or not at all.. and have a bunch of users with a $400 system wondering how they are supposed to get their music collection on the console.

Am I able to buy PlayStation Store content from other regions?
We recommend that people buy from the PlayStation Store in the region in which they signed up in order to ensure the best experience and customer support.

I wish they would eleborate a bit more on this....makes it sound as if you are not blocked from redeeming / purchasing content via the store from other regions...

I'd imagine it is exactly the same as PS3 but it would be great if content could be purchased from other regional PS Stores.

I could not care less for the missing multimedia features so I feel indifferent.

Actually I really like the direction Sony has been taking with the PS4 so far. I don't want features that would only be used by a tiny fraction of users especially when they could possibly hinder the implementation of other important features down the road.

This shows how cautious Sony is this time around as they are trying to start fresh and make plenty of room for future updates. Remember the PS3 party chat fiasco? Apparently they don't want to repeat that with the PS4.

Also this is not 2006. Why would I use my PS4 to stream HD videos when there are many cheap yet powerful devices on the market that can do the job better and without Sony's usual restrictions (for example I don't think Sony will ever support MKV streaming on the PS4).

As for the gaming-related missing features at launch, yeah that's a bummer. I was really excited to try the resume/suspend mode on day one.

Is there a way to rename my Online ID on PS4?

No. But PS4 does give you the option of allowing your friends to see your real name in addition to your Online ID. You can also choose to import your Facebook photo to be used as your PSN profile picture if you wish.

Anyone know exactly why I can't rename my profile?

the way they word it sounds exactly like the PS3, yes. You are not IP-blocked from buying from other regions, but it's not trivial and in no way are they going to support it. If they did elaborate on it, it could lead one to assume that it's supported by them even if overly complicated.

edit - the above is just a guess, but sounds sensible based on how they worded it.

And 69.99 euro.
But not in the US, oh no, they're keeping the old 60 USD retail there.
What the hell, over 30% markup.
This is the real bomb right here.

Agreed, in fact it should be its own thread so euro gamers are forewarned that they may get a switcheroo very soon. Could get lost in all the US'centric stuff.

I dannae have tha powah!

Just checked Game and they are still £49.99, stupid but that could change to retarded very soon. Retail will have to honour preorders but the price may change soon guys so if you are holding off on buying a game, now may be the time. Should boycott those prices IMO.

I agree that would have been much worse and people would have likely been more upset.

Certain titles built on a free-to-play model will not require PlayStation Plus for multiplayer functionality in North America. This list currently includes Blacklight Retribution, DC Universe Online, and War Frame in North America.

3k4DMEC.png

What about those who don't live in North America? Are people who live outside of North America required to have PS+ to play F2P games?

Did we know that Resogun would be free for PS+ member in NA?

What features will be available with PlayStation Plus on PS4?
...
Instant Game Collection
Access to a regular, curated selection of titles made exclusively available to PlayStation Plus members at no additional cost. The PS4 titles available on Instant Game Collection at PS4′s launch in North America will include Resogun and Contrast.

That is actually exactly why you would cancel a preorder. When and if the features are added, or there are more games, you can get one.

I was happy to have a media player whilst waiting for games. Not much point getting one yet for me.

Wow everyone one on here needs to chill out

Its almost like Sony took your baby from you and crushed it.

There are things companies like them have to do to make profits in services

Music Unlimited ( if you were able to just use your own stuff would you buy MU...NOPE)

Putting your external hard drive do you really want your 400 system to be hackable and people just find ways to get things for free and not you?....NOPE

Stop Complaining none of that is even that bad. You can always add a bigger Hard Drive

You can buy MU to listen to music or just dont. Backgrounds who cares. Being able to capture game content .....ITs coming they just said its coming.

Look at what this system offers instead of little features.

Not bothered about mp3 playback, less miffed about DLNA simply because despite endless fiddling with settings I still get really jerky streaming from UMP, am glad some people read the USB thing as I did - that you can't install or save game data on an external drive (which I'm pretty sure was already stated at some point this year) but your be able to plug aUSB drive in to read photos & video files.

Otherwise why bother putting USB3 ports in, solely for use by the DS4s?

The PS4 does have external data connections. It can read data from it.

A function should only be considered handicapped if it can't carry out a basic task. When did playing games off of an external hard drive suddenly become a basic task?

Who said anything about playing games externally?

eh... I suppose. Still a console is a pretty lousy media player usually, and most people have better ones already. What you're saying could be true, but damn that's a pretty weird pre-order in that case.. heh..
