I needed that today, Thanks! hahaha....

Sorry, but the whole "I like every single exclusive on this console, but don't have any interest in every single exclusive on that console." really rings hollow.

I didn't realise gaming had become a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Why are people so concerned about other peoples purchases?

There is no exclusive that will be currently available for PS4 that makes me want one at launch, the XB1 has Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5.

That's enough for me.

If I want to count pixels and gloat about how great my system is I will buy a top of the line PC.

I don't know if it's a younger generation coming into their first proper next gen launch or what, but the attitude of some people (not just here by the way) with this whole new generation just stinks.

I'm a gamer foremost (I have no allegiance to either brand) and I will go where the games are, I don't need to validate myself/my purchases against other peoples.

If you buy an Xbox One you're letting Microsoft know that it's ok to release underpowered hardware at a higher price than the competition. I don't see that as a very good idea. If the Xbone was $200 less than the PS4 it would be a different story entirely.

I came into the thread saying that fact because people here were saying grouping all of the people that didn't care about this as "people trying to justify their purchase decision" which is snobbish BS. It was in reply to those posts.

My first post in this thread was about how it was disappointing that a game is running worse on the console brand that it's known for. I didn't come into the thread saying what I did in that post you quoted from me.

I'm not accusing you, I know from team xbox your a legit fan of the console. It's not about why any given individual wants an xbox. I want one!

The reason im getting a PS4 over Xbone is all resolutions aside, i don't like the direction Microsoft is heading. I want a games console, not an entertainment centre and to me it seems like gaming is becoming a secondary priority for MS

with this level of graphics the resolution of the x1 version should be 900p at least

looks like Infinity Ward cant handle the technical difficulties of x1 and chose the easy

way

I think that's going to be the main issue this GEN.

Publishers want to get their products to market as fast as possible and once the PC game is finished porting it to the PS4 (as is evidenced) is a pretty fast process.
The XB1 ports are going to take additional time and since time is money you can't keep one team working two or 3 times as long on a port trying to squeeze something more out of it.

This is going to be on Microsoft to optimize their tools as much as they can (if they can) since this is not IW's issue.

Yeah this is true. They can push more graphics at 720p

unless they have to downgrade the resolution to match the ps4/pc versions in graphical quality, like BF4 and COD ofcourse.

People keep yelling that they don't give a shit about 720P, or that it allows for added effects, but what happens when the generation progresses, and certain engines force PS4 to 720P to tag along, what will happen with the xbone version then ?

So yes, they can push more graphics, but in the case of BF4, pushing more graphics, means meeting the ps4/pc version. You are going to see alot of this happening. You will never see a third party game that runs at 720P on xBone, but has effects that the compition won't have, "because they can more graphics". that's not how it works.

Yep.

The real concern is when you get games that run at 720p on PS4 because they're pushing the hardware. There will be plenty of Xbox One games with a rather standard-def haze before its time is up.

Reasons why people will be going Xbox One (imo):

Friends on XBL
Halo
Call of Duty
Don't care for full/sub-HD shenanigans
Controller

friends on xbl - makes sense
halo - makes sense altough last one was meh apparently
cod - makes no sense
dont care res - then stick to 360/ps3
controller - people havent tested them yet

That's like having a SDTV last gen and not giving a fuck.

Aside from finding it hard to read writing I didn't give a fuck for many years of gaming on an SDTV last gen. Didn't get a HDTV until around 2011 I think. Maybe 2010, not sure. Even now that I do have a HDTV, as I said the only thing I'm really glad I don't have to deal with is finding it hard to read writing. As far as how games look go.....meh. They look better, but honestly I don't really give a shit. Game visuals went way past the point of accessibility to me a long time ago. In fact in the case of Wii and previous gen games go games look worse on my HDTV so there's some bad that has come with getting a HDTV.

So you can count me in with the people that don't care if next gen games are going to be 720p or not. I care about next gen for a number of reasons. Resolution is not one of them. By the way I'm getting a PS4 instead of an X1. Not because of the power difference, but because I generally like PS more, it's cheaper and it has remote play with Vita. But nevertheless I enjoy reading these threads where people go crazy over this kind of thing. I find it fascinating.

I find it hard to believe there are still people who are getting a Xbox One over a PS4. Unless you are a hardcore Halo fan, the choice is quite clear.

What I'm finding hader to believe is that people are seemingly...surprised by what's unfolding.

Cold, hard facts have been staring everyone in the face for months. I guess so many really did choose to ignore unequivocal technical data that was stated time and time again, not have the noggin to see through PR horseshit such as 'balance', or just be in denial.

What indications are leading you to this assumption? I see gaming as being a heavy focus to start out this gen; question is can they keep it going? They have already secured Dead Rising, Ryse, Titanfall and have first party studios hard at work.

This thread is going through a rationalization phase that's taking it out off topic.

I don't think anything changed from the first post and the points I've made still stand.

It's a big difference and shows some of the advantage one platform holds over the other in this early day but the thread is veering into other types of discussion.

I'm not going to quote everything or everyone but when I say rationalization I mean a selective few posts on this page.

Maybe for exclusives? Or certain XboxOne features?..
Or friendslist? However, i think a lot of european people will move over to PS4.

Xbone is surely being grossly under-utilised in running Ghosts at 720p. Hopefully for Xbone buyers the gap will decrease as developers become more comfortable with eSRAM.

Yeah, I see a few people already touched on my biggest concern. It is not really this news. launch games are actually not a huge surprise.

What hugely concerns me is 3-5 years down the road, when 3rd party developers potentially have a very real decision to make, do we in essence have two teams to take advantage of each console for development? Or do they develop to the lowest common denominator?

I think most would do the latter, even if they did not want to, because it is smart business.

So yeah, 3-5 years from now 3rd party games could very well be crippled because of the power difference, and that really, truly sucks.

That does not make it a valid reason. Its like saying I am buying a PS4 for AC, MGS, FF and GTA.

What the heck is a "valid reason"? Someone can't buy the Xbox One to play the latest installment of Call of Duty? o_O

I'm not saying that someone wouldn't do the same for PS4, what I'm saying is that the majority of Call of Duty players are Xbox players and, imo, will most likely be switching over to XB1 eventually, as one of their reasons for going XB1.

Did people complain about this when PS2 was king of the hill?

In any case, it's a frankly absurd thing to claim.

Based on what we're seeing... i highly doubt it. I think they'll continue to develop to the strengths of each console.

That is completely irrelevant to the discussion in this thread though. It's been written on the walls for months. This has nothing to do with brand recognition, but has everything to do with superior hardware and smarter architecture decisions.

I don't see how that's irreverent. It's still news. The system is capable of 1080p but apparently issues came up so the game could meet console launch.

And since COD is more known on the Xbox, that does make this news more interesting. Similar things were said for the Madden 30 FPS news on the PS3 since Madden was more tied to the Playstation brand at that time.

X1 has better launch line up that is why but im getting both consoles.
And i'm waiting for 4k monitors to start showing up then plan to build a monster rig.

Big issues came up and the system is under powered compared to PS4. You can blame MSFT for that. The gap is wider than PS3/360.

But I think both platforms will see performance gains in the future.

When all their friends stay with Xbox?

Come on people...
People like different games, and both consoles launch with different games for different gamers..

You think most people look at the pixel counts of games?

By a large margin, too. Some just refuse to accept it like there's a sleeping wizard inside the Xbox One that hasn't been awakened.

There are plenty of exclusives that appeal to different type of gamers on Xbox One.
Halo (you mentioned that one), Fable (yes, there are fans of this franchise), Forza, Killer Instinct and Quantum Break.

Titanfall

are there really so many more Xbox COD players out there than Playstation..?

Poor Leadbetter ... how can surive to this? The magic audio chip will save him.
Makes me wonder what the hell he was thinking this past summer with all those thinly veiled PR interviews and the ill fitting graphics card tests with Crysis 3.

"It's all about balence!" Evidently not.

No-one outside of gaming enthusiasts on forums will care.

Call of Duty would sell if they released a SNES version...lol
It will still sell yes but even if COD only players hear about the resolution difference it could sway them toward the ps4. Especially since it's $100 cheaper.

I still can't believe the price difference given the performance.

Does anyone even know what quantum break is? Sorry if I'm out of the loop.

Titanfall's not exclusive btw
