DS4 thumb sticks might have a problem?

I've worn out the little nubs on 3 Xbox 360 controllers until they were smooth (no nubs) and I wouldn't say I'm abnormally rough with my controllers. I just put it down to wear and tear but it shouldn't happen this quickly.

That's the risk you take when creating a new controller that's this fucking SEXY. Naturally people are going to rub it furiously against their privates.

I have disintegrated many Xbox 360 controllers, at least 3 have had the rubber come off both thumb sticks. If you use them all day every day, they tend to not be able to hold up.

This guy is talking like no one else has touched one of these controllers. I have touched the analog sticks and they are not lower quality in any way compared to the DS3.

360 analogs are cheap and easy to replace. Hopefully DS4 analogs are the same.

We have a handful of examples and the system hasn't launched. This WILL be a problem

Show us the pic of the crystal ball or no one will believe you.

I don't think it will be a problem for people who play 1 or 2 hours a day, but for the more dedicated gamers this could be a problem.

Would love to see the replies in this thread if the same problem was reported with the XB1 controller.

I've already seen this being reported by more than a few people so as someone getting a PS4 at launch, it's starting to worry me a bit. But by all means, lets keep posting Banderas gifs and just dismiss the claims as razor/sandpaper/acid thumbs.

Oh i'm sure they would be terrible and confirm that everyone hates the xb1 so much and vindicate your nonsensical reasoning that because DS4's that have obviously been abused (reddit claw fingers) or played extremely heavily (a gazillion hours at trade shows) there will be massive problems. Well here is a report counter to what you have heard. I have already put about 20 hours on my ds4 and have experienced nothing wrong with the controller besides it being much too perfect. So...as someone with more first hand experience than you I can claim that the DS4 will be fine besides some fringe cases where people destroy the controller because they have biceps on their thumbs.

i really don't understand how this could happen. i've used the dualshock 4 and the rubber felt very similar to the dualshock 3 stick rubber. i'm thinking this won't be an issue for me, as i've never had a controller wear out, but it is a little concerning. i hope the press does some investigating.

To be honest... 20 hours isn't a huge sample size man.

Nah. Saying it's because of 'reddit claw fingers' is just an assumption, and I've heard it from other recent owners, not from trade shows. That's great that yours and countless others' are fine after 20+ hours, but the thing that worries me is what it'll be like down the line in 3-6 months. These are the kinds of things that just aren't immediately noticeable.

love on your sleeve
I had this happen to a DS3 but it was after 5 years of use. Just have to wait and see how much of an issue this is.

Would suck if this were true for a lot of controllers. I'm just going to use mine normally and hope it stays fine.

I'm not sure if those are the exact ones that I bought, but yeah, it's the entire stick. I think it took less than 5 minutes to replace both of my sticks.

Wow, thanks dude.

"Perfect" and "Dual Shock" will never belong in the same sentence until they move that left stick upwards.

IMO

I feel like, if this had actually been an issue, it would have been discovered by devs and then phased out. Until more stories come out, this smells like FUD.

I've used my DS4 for probably fifty hours, and there's no sign yet that it'll wear nearly this quickly.

Not that I believe him, but according to his story he played FIFA for three months(?) using that DS4, and FIFA does go comparatively light on the right stick.

He has this controller for 3 months? I thought you can only buy them since recently.

He has been playing FIFA 11 with the same intensity with PS3 controllers for the last 3 months.

What are these people doing to these things before the damn system is even out?

I've been using the DS4 on some PS3 games for over a week now. It's available in some stores.

Great controller, too.

I've seen the same with 360 controllers. If I see the same with xbone controllers, my comment would still stand: weird people who control the sticks with their thumbnails which is inherently damaging to the rubber.

That's what confuses me. Why would you place your fingers like that on the stick?

Might be some weird OCD? "The voice in my head says the apocalypse is coming on only Down-Left can save us. Down-Left for 6 days straight".

I just don't believe this will result from normal use of the controller. If it does, that's fucked and Sony had better do something about it. But until I see this happen on a bigger scale, I'm going to have to assume it's due to the way the guy was using it, or something he did to it. People have been using these for a while and we have 1 picture of one fucked up controller?

At the Sony store one of the ds4 nubs was cut like this one is. If you dig into it with your nails or use a knife I can see this happening but I really hope this doesn't happen with normal use. I don't think Sony would build a controller this cheap.

That controller looks disgusting. I wash my hands before I play games...and make anyone who is over do the say. Judge if you want...my controllers are always clean.

Looks like he was scratching it with sand paper. Just look at the marks on the left stick compared to the right.
