Digital Foundry vs. Dead Rising 3

Nice GIF, gave me an idea:

Is anyone else completely shocked at how crappy the object/texture pop-in is on that broken piece of road?
Also, dat 10fps... at any PC hardware review site this would be labelled unplayable. 10-20fps is literally a slide show.

Oh the hilarity.

720p. Poor AA. Crap Framerate. Chromatic Aberration. Crap textures, crap texture pop-in, crap shadow resolution. The XBOne really is so great isn't it!

Shame this will never make it to PC

Looks like the minimum frame rate is 20 FPS to me. Not that that is any good, mind you.

You'd think at the VERY least that performance would be their #1 priority to show off all that so called "next gen" power right?

I mean I could live with all these other tradeoffs if it meant the framerate was 100% stable and drop free but it's not.

It's actually a real shame how things have ended up for this game. This and Crimson Dragon were the only Xbone launch games I was genuinely sorry to be missing out on. Though even under ideal circumstances I don't doubt Capcom would have found a way to fuck things up somehow sadly :/ Some of those gifs of it do look great though.

Yeah console players love 10-20fps...

I'mma pray for this game. Seems to enjoy 20fps more than 30fps, and it occasionally drops to 10fps.

When major launch games end up 720p/~20fps, it's good to re-read this gem of a post.

Albert Penello said:
People DO understand that Microsoft has some of the smartest graphics programmers IN THE WORLD. We CREATED DirectX, the standard API’s that everyone programs against. So while people laude Sony for their HW skills, do you really think we don’t know how to build a system optimized for maximizing graphics for programmers? Seriously? There is no way we’re giving up a 30%+ advantage to Sony. And ANYONE who has seen both systems running could say there are great looking games on both systems. If there was really huge performance difference – it would be obvious.

I'm not too concerned, a lot of early 360 games looked like 720p Xbox 1 titles.

People forgot that DR was a significant visual improvement over Xbox gen?.

We could point at early dev tools and rushed development as the real culprits and that would be fine. But let's not forget that this is an awful looking next-gen game.

That's a moot point. If the Xbone was as capably and as easy to develop on as Albert et al had made out, we wouldn't have games as atrocious as this.

I think this a situation where various bad factors mix together: Mediocre developer, bad development tools and not very powerful hardware.
I cant fucking believe this console cant run this game at stable framerate, if it was developed by someone more competent.

So I just watched the video with the 10FPS spot. Is it possible that it was just a quick load of an interior? The game probably streams as much of the environment as possible but occasionally drops frames when going from outside to inside locations? Or because a boss encounter was being loaded up too?

Ouch. I didn't expect it to be THAT bad because this is pretty much unacceptable. I'm pretty sure anyone and everyone would take less zombies on screen for a more stable framerate...Well, besides a certain individual that seems to have created some entertainment in this thread. :D

This is the game that interested me the most from a gameplay perspective since I loved DR2 on PC but I had a feeling I'd be disappointed somewhat and this is more than somewhat disappointing.

At least they have enough of a marketing push to sell a shitload of copies to unsuspecting gamers and at least 1,000 more copies to Senjutsu.

The importance of resolution can at least be discussed but poor framerate and other issues on top of that leaves no excuse at all because being a launch game doesn't give you an excuse to be unplayable at parts.

It doesn't seem like it's the zombies, since there are scenes with tons of them that run at 30 fps with no issues. It looks like it's the flames/blood that cause it to choke down.

That's not really true though, is it.

Of the launch/early games, the vast majority were clear generational leaps. The only games I remember than made me wince were King Kong and Chromehounds, which were a world away from the likes of CoD2, PGR3, RR6 and Condemned .

Woke up and caught up with the rest of the thread. Some of you guys slayed me multiple times. Especially the updated Banderas gif.
Also congrats to Senjutsu on the new tag, you worked hard for that one bud, enjoy it.

And yet people were still calling it xbox 1.5. at the time. Not really all that different from now.

I was thinking the same thing the more I looked at it but I'm trying to convince myself that it's all the zombies since that at least makes partial sense.

I just don't see how it could be this big of a mess considering how high profile it is for MS. Changing consoles in development is never easy but it's no excuse for this or else they need to eat the bad press and delay it like Drive Club instead of leaving a longer lasting negative view on the series as a whole.

This is by far the least "next-gen" looking next-gen title I've seen.

I take it you've not seen LocoCycle then?

Or Crimson Dragon?

Is this what I think it is? The game actually drops to 10fps at this point? Fucking HELL.

No. It's not the frame rate counter shown in the top right, but the Polygon score.
