Assassins's Creed PS4 is now 1080p with AA.

Yep, much better than the night time shots, thanks! Difference is clear.

Even GIFs like that don't really illustrate how it 'snaps' on a TV. How huge a diff it makes is up to each person, but to me it's like the diff between having a Motion Flow on or off. I notice it almost immediately.

Can someone explain how the ps4 patch system works? I started the game and apparently it was already downloaded and patched. When I look at the update history in notifications it said 3 minutes ago acbf was updated, which was when I turned on the ps4. Wondering if it downloaded somehow while in standby and then installed it real quick, but I'm not sure.

No, it was pretty noticeable on the 42" in my bedroom. Sharper, cleaner presentation. It's not something I would have raged over if I didn't have it because the game already looked pretty clean, but now that I do...yea. Noticeable improvement.

I'm gonna have to wait until after work but I'm pretty sure I will notice the difference too. There's a difference though between a noticeable visual upgrade and a huge visual upgrade.

How can people not tell the difference in those GIFs? There is so much more detail in the background post-patch.

I see the difference. But the difference is negligible at best. "So much more detail"? I'd call it "a tiny bit more detail." Certainly not worth putting the game on hold after buying it and intending to play it immediately. What a joke.

Yeah, i see the difference, although the original is not that bad, thanks for the comparison!

I think what we need now, is a nice PS4 vs PC comparison :D

well, the PC version is capable of 60fps+, downsampling, and more AA options.

So no, we don't need PC comparisions unless you want to make people in here feel bad that they don't have a PC to run it like PC gamers can. Let's just be happy with this, shall we?

It's meaningful and noticeable, not huge. It's not game-changing or something like 60fps would have been. It does look objectively better now, which is a nice thing.

So it'll be 1080p when us Europeans get it?

Also I think some people in this thread might need to pop down to the opticians if they can't see any differences.

Yes

I was already enjoying it pre-patch, and I'll continue to enjoy it post-patch.

Thanks Ubisfot.

Should have been 1080p from start tho.

Can anyone explain the topic title change? I was looking for info that showed signs of a lazy patch. But seems like it was just a troll?

Heh, it would be funny if a studio pulls off a next gen open-world game in a consistent 60 FPS someday, then Ubisoft would eat crow.

Anyways, this was pretty crappy, though I can see some reasoning in here.

Thought I'd make another gif, showing the added detail.

Oh my god. I didn't think I would create such a reaction with my comment. I think the difference is marginal, especially when not compared side by side.

If you guys think the difference is huge then good for you.

But you didn't simply state that you found the difference to be marginal. You were obviously being disingenuous and juvenile.

One thing that's worth mentioning is that you're not seeing everything in picture comparisons, as giving a monitor it's native resolution can make a big difference too.

If you think the difference is marginal though, then good for you. I'm being sincere.

There are two things at play here when considering why 1080p native resolution games / sources are so pleasing in comparison to even just a minor drop in the region of 900p on a native 1080p display:

The first is pure resolution:
Your eyes, your beautiful perfect human eyes (but I digress), are responding to the higher resolution and detail that can be resolved with a higher resolution image

The second is the absence of scaling on a fixed pixel display:

You don't get the scaling issues associated with fixed pixel display. Scaling is always going to hurt clarity and detail especially where the interpolation math is not kind. 1:1 mapping without scaling is KING.

Our TVs are built for 1080p. Long live the (current) King of TV resolutions (until 4K becomes feasible )

In short - 1080p = no scaling + higher resolution - aka a very good thing. The scaling is what really hurts.

Oh please. There is a difference. The size of the difference is entirely subjective to the viewer. You can't argue with whether or not he thinks the difference is large or marginal... Opinions how do they work.

"Unless you have a 70 inch TV, the difference is marginal at best" is factually incorrect. The difference is more than marginal as shown by even the crappy GIFs. Saying he didn't notice a big difference would be an opinion.

I'm happy. But I wouldn't mind knowing what spec is necessary to get to PS4 quality, and then beyond. Would be interesting.

Seriously though, I don't understand this inaccurate thread title change.

I'd like to think there wasn't some kind of disingenuous console warz agenda behind it.

edit: oh, PERCENTAGE bars.

How are people getting the patch? Do I have to start AC4 for it to see there is a patch or is it automatic? I'm sitting through the credits of KZ right now and keep switching to the home screen to check AC info and I don't see a patch downloading or reported as downloaded.

I do think there is so much more detail but I've been playing the game pre-patch. So I didn't hold off either.

It's basically like Vita, which is not optimal. But I think they got a lot of complaints from players who thought they were 'locked out' of a game until they get the patch (part of PS3 wording).

It will download the patch as soon as you launch the game, but it will let you continue to play the offline portions without applying the patch. So you need to manually close the game (hold PS button) and then run the patch from Notifications. It's not ideal, it should prompt you and ask if you'd rather just quit and apply the patch right now, but that's how it works currently.

The thread title never said black bars. It was a joke about filling experience/progress bars in an UBI game, a joke that went over most people's heads it seems.

Honestly found the changes in the screenshots minimal looking, probably would find it a lot more obvious in person. I can definitely tell the difference between native 1080p and 900p, I mess around with PC resolutions all the time and anything other than native or higher looks much worse on my TV or monitor. But I found it harder to notice the difference in those screens honestly.

Maybe it's my headache blurring my vision in-general though, already cleaned my glasses.

Some of the screens on the 1080p make the objects in the distance unnaturally sharp. But I'll take it over 900p any day.

Edit: Nvm, it was just one screen in the crappy night ship one.

I thought if you left your system in standby it will DL on its own?

Unfortunately, most people's 1080p TV's still have scaling due to ridiculous overscan out of the box.

Yes I hate ps4 so much I hate it I hate it I think it sucks and the ui sucks and that's all that matters and ps4 I am the harbinger of your destruction with my seamless movies and tv tv tv sports tv hate hate rage

Did you buy and play the game when it came lot on other systems? If not you're being a tiny bit hypocritical in mocking those of us that waited a mere 3 extra days to play it.

People too impatient to wait 3 days to play the game at it's best. What a joke.

I have to wait for my PS4 until next week, but is resolution the only difference, it looks like a different AA technique, the 900p look like poor old QAA (blurs everything), the new 1080p looks like a much better AA technique..

Could be the resolution, it seems odd to gain so much obvious detail for a relatively small increase in actual pixel count..

Any chance of some actual 1:1 full size images?

The strange thing is I didn't see the patch download when I turned on my ps4 so it might have got it in standby. Creed wasn't even in the tray. It's possible it downloaded super quickly when I turned on the ps4 and didn't notice but I'm not sure.

I don't disagree that the PC version is going to look/perform better, I'm just rather curious to see how far apart the two are. Don't want to make anyone feel bad :(
