What the combat system relies on, rather than complexity, is timing. Getting the timing right on parrying an enemy blow, then the combination in which you strike back, and the precise timing of each of those strikes, is what Ryse is all about.

Sounds like you have to be quick with your timing during combat events.

It's probably not a good idea to base your purchase off one review for anything if you really think reviews should even play into your buying decisions. Let this play out.

What an odd metric to use, sounds like you really want the game. Why not buy it regardless of reviews?

I was kind of kidding… I really want to read a review about the gameplay (from a place I trust). I am SOLD on the graphics, but I'm afraid the game itself might be boring and/or short. Honestly, I think Ryse will be my first digital game on Xbox One (as long as the gameplay it isn't horrible). I bought retail versions of my other launch games (F5,DR3,BF4).

with that being said, I think the metacritic score on Contrast is too low also personally. Still, I recognize that game's faults. This review is like "yeah it's got a lot of faults and no depth, but damn did I have fun"

If people call the combat in Ryse "deep" when it uses less buttons than Knack does, I'll just hyperbole all over the place till there's nothing left.

It's going to score better than Knack and be heralded for it's "deep and engaging combat". I know I shouldn't make the comparison, but knocking one for a lack of combat depth and praising another is sickening.
