First of all, Crysis 1 was completely playable on medium settings on most gaming PCs when it launched, and it was a really fun game when played that way. Let's not pretend you weren't playing a great game with the settings dialed back.

maybe im bias because i only got crysis 1 running nicely in 2010 on a new rig

It's not a turd though. It's a mediocre, inoffensive game. In fact the only thing it really needs to be a legitimately good game is more diversity in the amount of things you do in each level. The basic mechanics and core gameplay is already solid and in place.

It's a catch 22: if you wait until the great games are done the hardware will stay in flux, development will be troubled, and there won't be enough systems to sell those games on. If you don't have worthwhile games at launch however then what's the point of getting the consoles?

Answer for everyone that isn't Nintendo is to port/rush some games out then hit it big a year later. Hell, Nintendo's depended on that more and more, especially in the handheld space.

Yeah I am okay with being there day 1 since I feel I owe Sony that respect after PS1, PS2 and PS3. But it's gonna be pretty weird reaching for PS3 when the PS4 is sitting right there. I guess it depends how entertaining Killzone is. I'll just mix it all in there with all the other entertainment options.

Read the review. If someone told me an enthusiastic eleven year-old wrote it, I'd believe them. It's way too long for no good reason and incessantly analyzes the most mundane details of the game. I can't believe there is an adult man getting paid for doing this. You'd think they would hire someone with at least a bit more finesse and wisdom.

i read it, it goes into mundane detail about the combat because that's all there is, he liked it, i dont think he's lying to himself.

Pfft, says who? I can tell how many times my jumping attack came up ever so short, or a dodge didn't register right away, or even have Knacks swipe miss for no reason just to die. Ryse is probably shit but hopefully people won't be trying to make it out like it's some misunderstood gem like they do Knack. Both these games are mediocre as fuck and don't let their exclusiveness cloud that.

I argue for how I feel about a topic like anyone else would. If you search the various PS4/Knack threads I'm far from alone on this though. Many people were saying similar things before I even got to play the game since my PS4 got to me later than it was supposed to.

Blegh, I could only stomach about 20 minutes of Knack before stopping. Bored the hell out of me.

From the reviews, it would seem that Knack has more enemy variety than Ryse, so... Enjoy!

It that what these reviews are saying? It seems more like you get a 5/10, a whole half of your game's worth, just for having pretty graphics. That can only mean that things like gameplay, story, replay value, soundtrack share the other half.

Id give it a 7.5 from the 3 hours I played. Blown away by graphics, sound and presentation. The combat is just like Assassins Creed to me which I don't mind. Not a deep game at all but we'll worth the purchase to show off the system.

As repetitive and shallow as it is, Ryse is always blandly playable; its handsome looks and the daft vigour of the scenario will easily get you to the end of a game that doesn't outstay its welcome. The closing chapters even manage a kind of idiotic grandeur. Marius brings a reckoning back to Rome and ends up reliving earlier events at the Colosseum, where fanciful contraptions transform the scene like the set of a lavish Broadway musical, and there's a clanging reference to Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus (as opposed to the trashy TV series which Ryse much more closely resembles). There's even an authentically Roman tinge to way Marius' story ends.

By the time you've seen that ending, though, you'll have unlocked the majority of Marius' upgrades, and there's nothing like enough substance to the gameplay to tempt you to run the campaign on another difficulty setting or to lure you into long-term engagement with the two-player arena mode. There's no brains, no muscle, no fibre beneath Ryse's extravagantly engineered good looks - this game rings loud but hollow. Crytek likes to contrast Marius' moral strength with the vanity and cruelty of Nero and his made-up sons, but Ryse feels like a product of their dying empire. It's just empty decadence.

Crysis didn't need a two grand machine at launch, although it would certainly help if you wanted to play it with great visuals while you did. Still looked solid on medium, I'll have you know. And it was still playable at 15-20fps, as I know from first hand experience

Praising C1 and Warhead as the peak of the series is not a nostalgia fueled trend. It's still extremely good from a gameplay perspective and looks fairly good, to boot. People praise the single player campaign, up until the aliens show up (when we all admit it gets a bit shitty). Up to that point though, it's one of the best shooter campaigns ever made, and nothing coming out is really topping it. C2 and C3 are simply very different games when compared to C1 and Warhead, even if you think C2 and C3 are better you should still be able to appreciate that.

Ryse proves that xb1 is a half baked nextgen machine more than any information yet released.

To get a game to look nextgen the game has to run at 900p have a pretty terrible framerate, have limited gameplay freedom, and then on top of that have prerendered cinematics.

System and this game are a joke. Only thing redeemable is KI.
