of course they will for these reasons:

• the average gamer is getting older
• new markets have become important

Maybe, just maybe, my fellow UK residents have grown sick and tired of Nintendo releasing Mario games/sequels/spin-offs/sequels-to-spin-offs at such an alarmingly frequent rate and have demonstrated their disinterest as such. Maybe Nintendo should stop relying on their mascot so much, and instead of phoning it in by releasing brand-diluting instalments like Mario Party: Island Party and yet another Mario Golf, they should spend that time and those resources on something new and exciting instead.

Congrats to Sony for proving that the console market is still very much alive and kicking.

Nintendo should bring something new to the table franchise wise. Invest heavily in developing new things, because this isn't going to work for very much longer.

Regardless if either would sell out or not, Sony looks like it had significantly more for day 1 launches now with these UK numbers giving us a better idea just how many they diverted to Europe. Assuming XBO sold through more stock that arrived after day one, what sort of numbers seem realistic for WW total through to store shelf?

1.2m for XBO and maybe 1.5m for PS4? Maybe up to 1.1m NA, 250K UK, 250K rest of Europe? +1.6m?

Well Iwata was right about one thing. It seems that pricing isn't the issue if you have a product that people actually want. A product from a platform holder with great first and 3rd party support.

Hmm, if we take that the PS4 is around 250K of that 600K, that leaves about 350K for the XB1 and Wii U, so guessing they're both around 175K or so give or take, with the XB1 ahead. Maybe something like 170K Wii U, 180K XB1.

There are only 63 million people in the UK versus 317 million in the US.

That said I guess if they had an astronomical shipment it would be possible to do more.

If i wasn't at work right now I'd take the WW market share (of the total game market) of the UK market and use that in conjunction with the WW market share of the other Phase 2 launch countries to extrapolate an estimate of the total PS4 sales to date.

No way its that low. I would guess 1M+ for PAL (inc. UK) for ~2.5 million sold LTD for PS4.

Although I could be wrong. Supplies for PS4 are so tight here (Australia) that its already sold out until 2014. In contrast the XBOne is widely available everywhere.
