Czech Republic haven't been a decent side in ages and that's going right back to 2006. The less said about the US the better. I'm talking about at the time, not their current status.

They were ranked 10th in the world that year. Yeah, the FIFA rankings are a joke and were especially so back then, but you don't get to 10 without being at least decent. The US was shit that year, but they still are a tough out for any team (as evidenced by their draw against Italy). And Ghana was an up-and-coming African side with a young Michael Essien.

It was a pretty tough group.

I'll have to chime in as an Iranian myself and say we beat South Korea in our Quali pool and got first place. And we even beat them home and away, so we're definitely a better team than them and not really comparable to freaking Honduras and Costa Rica like the OP suggests :|

As an Australian, perhaps the on the big stage our performances will improve, but we have had our ass handed to us in two friendly games again Brazil and France in very recent times. So, I fear that we won't have a great campaign.

That being said, we could get smashed in two of our pool games, but ultimately the campaign will be successful (not just in my eyes) if we somehow got paired up with England and we managed to beat them.

Aside from actually winning the WC, this would be the most glorious outcome imaginable! The headlines from each country would be amazing!

Brazil is my favorite for the World Cup. The only position you could argue they lack strength is center forward and perhaps in goal. They also have the advantage of playing in front of a home crowd.
I don't think Spain will prevail, some of the key players are getting on in years (Xavi, Xabi Alonso.) One could also question the hunger they have after two European Championships and one World Cup.

Germany would be my second favorites for the tournament. But then again, South American teams always wins in South America.

Bosnia could be the surprise team. I think they have a solid side with some really good players (Begović, Pjanić and Džeko) Although I find their defence rather mediocre.

As I said earlier, they took a lot of work to do and caused a lot of bickering by people who didn't opt-in correctly rather than a source of amusement/enjoyment for others.

If there's a particularly strong clamouring for them to return in some form I can speak to the mods but I highly doubt they'll allow it again. May have to be something incorporated in to our avatars instead.
