PS4: Coming to a Best Buy near you

I had no luck. I got there early and the guy told me I missed the ticket giveaway by about 6 minutes. I have mine already, but this one is for my kid, and I'm getting sick of this ticketing bullshit. I buy all of my shit at this BB or Amazon, and I'm about to give up BB because of the smug douche of a manager that kept telling me that they had none in the store while they were hoarding them. Sour grapes, maybe, but what happened to going to a store and buying something that was advertised? I think I need to go save the last humans and blow off some steam.

Edit: if anyone is looking for an Xbox One, they had plenty. Smug douche said he only handed out one ticket. I almost bought one just to exchange for a PS4 when they are actually available.

It seems like you're the douche here. Do you know anything about demand? They held products for the ad. The demand is SO high for this, just like it was with the Wii and the PS2. They sold out. In minutes. Sorry.

Yep handed them out when I posted then went back . Now people are waiting for opening. Good luck dude

p.s. is it like 100 degrees or what?

Managed to get one...ticket #60 or so...

Yeah it was getting pretty damn hot in that parking lot, haha.

Since I never got to finish my message to Spectrum, I'll just post it here for you to read. Maybe in the future if you use a different email address, this will help you.

There's a gradient. I didn't really think that needed to be said. There's a threshold of banter that is permissible. Full members and older gaffers understand that, and tread the line carefully. This is why we have a ToS (hint: actually read the ToS, it's kind of important). Everyone is free to speculate numbers, but as soon as you cross the line of ad hominem, and generalize in that respect, you're in dangerous territory. I've seen both participants of such an argument banned within minutes.

Read the ToS and advice threads. They'll teach you what not to say on GAF and will help you not get so close to the line, in the future. There's a reason why many industry figures have GAF accounts. It's a pretty troll free forum due to it's zero tolerance policy.

So xone isn't a lock to win December NPD because Amazon had stock for a few days? Can't wait for the fiscal reports in Janurary. I think Sony will be willing to fly in Ps4 stock to America like they did in the UK. So maybe they can get close to 4 million. I always thought the 3 million by Christmas was an analyst prediction and that the only official predication was 5 million by March.

Lol. It was definitely not hot where I was.

Only dissapointing thing about today is that I didn't pick up a single street pass.

so if the online tracker says available, how accurate is that? I guess best to just call. There is one store near me still showing available

I am just now reading Spectrum's posts. You're stupid and are just making guesses. The reason why the Xbox One is more on store sleves than the PS4 is not because of similar demand and Microsoft can supply more consoles to stores. It's because the PS4's demand is MUCH higher than the Xbox One's and when shipped, they sell out in minutes.
The PS4 demand > Xbox One demand. It's simple.

Settle down, man. The fight is over. Let's stay on topic.

I've been busy all day and napped for the last 2 hours so I never reported back. Got my console along with KZ and AC (Though AC being put aside for Xmas). Guy who handed out tickets must have had like 40-50 PS4 tickets. I didn't look at the XB1 stack though so no idea how many they had, but a couple people picked them up I saw. After the initial handout at 9:15 they came back again closer to 10 to give tickets to people who had arrived later. As I waited to check out I noticed the line kept growing so they were handing them out after the store opened. I'm also on the gulf coast of Florida south of Tampa so the temp. was in the high 60s/low 70s, so no one was freezing waiting of course. All in all it was a fine experience and not chaotic at all.

Oh and the majority of people buying were getting them for their kids, as they outright stated it in the line or at the register, or themselves as I saw the majority of consoles being paired with a game. Then again the people buying games might just be bundling for ebay, I hope not.

I was excited that this thread was a good 5 pages longer than when I posted. Then I checked the content of those pages. :(

Anecdotal update:
At the start of the day, my BB had 80 something PS4s and 50 something Xbones. This was 10am. By 11am, all PS4s were gone. I left at 4pm (long story), and they still had Xbones.

Was at my Walmart earlier today to pick up a bluray i bought during BF (ship to store is slow as fuck...) and saw some day 1 editions and regular Xbones but no PS4s in sight. Swung by Best Buy in the afternoon and to check out headphones and grab a eShop card and overheard a young mom with her kids asking about the PS4, was told they were sold out and to try early next Sunday. When the sales dude told them they had plenty of Xboxes in stock she declined and left, even as he was trying to make the argument that the Xbox was better. Thinking that $100 price difference really is a deciding factor for people

Or, the kids asked for a PS4 so that's what she wanted?

They looked like they were 7 and 5 years old, not really sure they would be choosing consoles but you could be right

Do you remember being 7? Because when I was 7 there was a pretty damn big line drawn in the sand separating the genesis and snes kids. I'm not surprised at all.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Got there quite early, already a line... even before the sun was up. Store opened at 10 but they were cool enough to distribute the tickets at 9.

PS4 was the main draw at this particular BB... all the tickets (30+) were given out, and people (who waited over an hour in the cold) were turned away at the end of the line.

There were XB1's for sale when I left the store... it's just anecdotal, and I'm sure they'll sell them soon enough, but the thirst wasn't quite there in the same way.

Kind of a weird experience all the way around. Never did anything like that before. The line was pretty crazy... I was not expecting that at all.

At my store, there was apparently a line that extended past the adjacent store. We had 80 PS4s and a handful of Xbox Ones (around 35). The PS4s sold out faster than the Xboxes.

I'm not calling him a douche because I didn't get a PS4, I'm calling him a douche because he is a smug douche. I'm in that store like twice a week and he is always a smug douche. Thanks for calling me a douche and assuming I don't understand how crazy the demand is though. Classy.

From calling the ticketing system bullshit (would you rather there be a stampede?), to whining that they didn't have enough units for everyone PLUS you (rare console launch window, Christmas shopping rush DUH), to even saying yourself this may all be a case of sour grapes--- you really don't come off as someone who has a very logical stance on ANYTHING.

Don't you f*cking hate that? I didn't pick up a street pass at the PS4 or XBone launch wtf!
Yes! You would think in a line of 50+ people all of whom there to buy a video game system that at least a few would bring a 3ds...

Went to pick up a ps4 for my brother this morning.

Arrived 8:30 - line had about 55-60 people.

By 10am the line was about 90.

They started giving out tickets at around 9:45. Xbox One tickets were given out first and only about 15 were taken. PS4 tickets came out second.. i got number 32 and the highest i saw was 51. When we got inside they had 2 separate checkout lines one for each console. Xbox line was done within 20 minutes and by the time I got to checkout the PS4 line behind me just kept growing.

Anecdotal evidence - PS4 blew the One out of the water. Also BB employees kept going around and telling people that PS4 requires Playstation Live to play online and pushing the $800 bunduru saying that if you just buy a PS4 2 games and a controller you're already looking at $750 lol.

It's adds up to $750 because it's BB's attempt to milk a PS+ Sub , Two games, a extra controller, and extra warranty it's a little annoying when I picked up my PS4 for launch. I thought it would be something they were just going to try for launch night. I suppose they do it because there are some who will buy the bundle and never use the warranty so extra dinero.

Edit:$ 800 + for BB's bundle

This is crazy. So glad I pre-ordered mine PS4 on Amazon instead of the Xbox One. I still got an Xbox One, haven't seen a PS4 since.

So can we estimate how many units Best Buy stores got on Sunday?

Between 30-60 each?

I'd like to know this as well.

From some of the earlier comments that compared it to their launch allotment, it seems like it's roughly 1/3 - 1/2 of what they received at launch. Pretty big shipment, wonder if all retailers received around that much.

Seems like it was the second big shipment they had, probably dived up what they had between US and Asian countries about to launch. Majority to US. Wonder when EU will get their next big shipment.

In my Best Buy district, which is composed of 13 stores around the DC/Maryland/Virgina metro area we received a little over 860 consoles between the stores. The lower end was in the 30s and the higher end was about 70-80-100+ for the bigger stores. Best Buy overall has about 1100 stores. That's sounds like a pretty healthy stock for one day. After 3 hours since opening, when I checked worked there was like only 75 left shared across all the stores.

My store sold out all 50+ consoles before 1pm as they were all ticketed in the morning line. We also had Xbox stock come in at about 25 and we still had about 15 left after all the PS4s were sold out and had 7 left when I left work 4 hours later. The Ones will no doubt sell out, but the contrast to the PS4 was a crazed frenzy; there is nothing like seeing a wall of people line up towards customer service to just buy a gaming console who waited outside for at least an hour when it was 28 degrees cold.

Damn that's the area where I live in, Maryland to be exact, I have been looking for one for a friend who is coming to study in America from Greece. Never saw this thread and never knew about this, probably all sold out by now.

Yep.

Average is 68 units per store
Median is 65 units per store
Sample size appears to be one district which contains 13 stores

From what I can tell Best Buy has approximately 1050 stores in the US

So roughly 63,000 PS4's moved through the country's Best Buy's today (Using 60 units per store to be conservative)

I think more interesting data could be inferred from the last 3 columns but I don't want to make assumptions so I'll leave that to someone who understands the terminology better

I think another gaffer may have supplied a picture of the retail distribution of PS4's for your exact district. Small world

Although it's worth checking if it's the same district because if it's not and your disctrict also got 880 units then it sounds like a standard ship amount per district and is easier to extrapolate from

Yup, they went around to everybody and started trying to sell their bundle. I started telling the people around that you are only buying 600 worth of stuff and they rest is just their bologna they are trying to sell you. The girl in front of me buying it for her boyfriend was buying in to their protection plan and the guy started saying it's good because a lot have been breaking, trying to scare her, and then said if you don't and it breaks after 15 days then you are out of luck and you have a brick. I told her Sony will fix it or get you a new one and they have their own protection plans you can sign up for that are cheaper

Even worse, one BB employee was talking to the girl and she was saying her boyfriend likes sports games and the guy says you know what's really big right now? NBA Live . .

I immediately stopped him there
