MGS: Ground Zeroes Xbox Exclusive Content Trailer

To clarify, I get that some may just be upset about the content itself being locked at all as opposed to the fact that Xbox One is getting a version at all or that it specifically is the one getting the content. I understand why that would be jarring. But this is the world we live in. Platform-holders are always going to be competing to get features that differentiate the releases and entice consumers to buy on their platform for high-profile releases. It's unfortunate, but we need not delve into silly console-wars type commentary when business gets in our way like this.

I bet if the shoe was on the other foot, these Sony-Only folk wouldn't be singing away different tune.

"Console exclusives are awesome!", etc.

The core game isn't effected, so why the hurt so much?

Reminds me of the MK SNES/GEN arguments of hold. Same thing, different day.

Interestingly enough, I never see these types of posts when the yearly PlayStation exclusive content is announced for each Assassin's Creed game.

I wonder why that is.

I don't know what you are trying to imply, GAF has no particular bias to any console manufacturer

I'd like to try and keep the console wars fire under control as much as possible. This sort of call out doesn't really help.

Guess I'll be double dipping...

The benefits of owning both a PS4 and X1. Can enjoy the exclusive MGS1 mission on PS4 one day, and enjoy this mission on X1 the next...

This was a big missed opportunity to have the mission be MGS4-themed to capitalize on the classic joke of MGS4 on Xbox, much like how folks always wanted MGS1 in HD and hey, we got that. This does call back to the old Xbox E3 reveal of the original Metal Gear Solid: Rising before Platinum saved the game.
They didn't save shit.

Dont see the big deal. This will be a single stand alone mission with nothing to add to the story line.

Interesting:

"Often described as the opposite of déjà vu, jamais vu involves a sense of eeriness and the observer's impression of seeing the situation for the first time, despite rationally knowing that he or she has been in the situation before. Jamais vu is sometimes associated with certain types of aphasia, amnesia, and epilepsy."

Marking mode AND Reflex mode can be shut off in options.

You get bonus points for doing so.

Thus all the bullshit complaining in the other threads was for nothing.

And thus, Konami will never learn.

Honestly, I used to be cool with exclusive content, even when my platform of choice wasn't getting the best end of the deal. As time went on though, I just came more and more to understand that it's just bad business practice overall. Especially when there is different content on each. It pretty much gives me the impression that Konami was fishing for extra funds at the expense of the consumer, and that is not something that should be easily shrugged off. It feels even worse in this case because GZ is just such a naked cash grab in the first place. The locked out content is potentially associating negative feelings to everyone who buys the game because unless you double dip, you are missing out on content in what is likely to be a content starved release in the first place.

It is what it is, but like the trend towards microtransactions in retail games, it's something that needs to either stop, or get reined in.

I bet Raiden is just happy he's wanted.

And, wait a second, Raiden pushes away his HF Blade in the trailer ... I mean, what's the point if he isn't going to use it?

What the fuck, why does Xbox get a cool mission and PS is stuck with shit? Also anyone else find it odd that Xbox gets MGR Raiden when the PS3 version of MGR sold like 5 times as much as the 360 version?

Perhaps Japanese publishers are still sure that Microsoft is the key to selling in the US.

Don't get the salt over exclusive content in a single mission over many in a game. I don't play stealth games so I'm not a MGS fan anyway, but this wouldn't deter me from buying the version for the console I own at all. Seriously, why not play the main game first and then see if any new content makes it?

On a side note, if this game is aiming for 60fps, it'll be interesting to compare resolution/framerate differences between next-gen versions.

That's what I'm saying. You have that one guy on the first page like "'I'm not buying it at all, screw Kojima and KonamI!"

Like dude, you were on board until you heard there's something in addition to the core game on a system you don't own or support for whatever reason.

Who cares, IMO. Get it on the platform you prefer.

Perhaps he was on board when the premise was that Kojima Productions were putting as much as possible into Ground Zeroes.

But, now, I'm wondering how much content the game will have. You'd hope that if they are willing to 'cut' things like the flashback and Raiden mission's out of the game, that they have a lot of extra stuff. But I've only heard about time trials, and the like.

People should be more up in arms over that next gen tax, rather than exclusive missions. I mean, I'm totally going to be a sucker and pay it anyway, there's no doubt about that. But I'll be doing it begrudgingly, of course, I think.

Anyway, let's all just be happy we've got a date now.

Also, I'm probably one of the few people that thinks it's kind of cool both sides get something unique. If it were something more substantial or canon to the story, I wouldn't think that, but in this case I do. Also, I say that as someone who won't have both next gen consoles for the GZ launch.

I'm so fucking pissed at this shit, I can't believe Kojima would do something like this to his loyal fans. After all that talk about MGS's home being Playstation, ugh Kojima just shot himself in the foot with this shit.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase MGSV for either system, nor will they purchase any of Konami's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Kojima has just fucked Konami and alienated an entire market with this move.

Kojima, publicly apologize and cancel MGSV and the exclusive content for Xbox One or you can kiss your business and fans goodbye.

was waiting for this lol

To save money on making an entire character completely functional and not just a glorified reskin.

Thinking more about the "paying $30 for a demo" topic; this isn't the first time Konami have done something like this.

When Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty hype was in full swing, Konami released the E3 2000 trailer on DVD - for 1,500 yen [$15]. That's right - they sold fans a trailer.

mgs2dvd.jpg

There are also some "Side Ops" on the DVD aside from just the trailer:

*Experience Tour
*Metal Gear Solid 2 Preview
*Documentary of the E3 World Premiere showing
*Image Illustrations by Yoji Shinkawa
*Items
*Z.O.E. Preview

I bought 2 of them. ;)

This "exclusive content" business is total and complete nonsense. The "Deja Vu" and "Jamais Vu" content are just filler material and contribute nothing to the main story arc of MGSV.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
There's no way this content stays exclusive guys .. come on...

that being said, this DLC seems far more appealing than the PS one simply because this could allow them to add a different playing character in the world, where as I don't think ps1-snake has anything "different" besides the look.

Eh, I think you underestimate the amount of dudebro in America that didn't even watch E3 and just hears "new xbox" and gets excited.

I probbably am.

I'm not against the xbox version getting any sort of exclusive DLC at all, I'm just wondering why they just didn't put the best one on the base where their fanbase is much stronger.

Whatever though, all these exclusive DLC nonsense will end up on both platforms eventually.

Im sorry but both of those exclusive DLCs look pretty lame. Maybe its just because Im completely over anything that has Kojimas name on it though.

Raiden is an Xbox character...

people forget MGS2 aka Raiden debut was the first ever MGS game on Xbox

MGR was also debut at E3 MS conference

now this...

Then why did Revengeance had exclusive dlc on PSN Europe?

And am I the only one wondering, WHAT IS a 21st century cyborg doing in the 70's??

EDIT: Damn, the youtube description mentions something about Raiden hunting SNATCHERS??! Crap, I really hope that both missions will eventually come to all 4 consoles.
And Raiden was in PS all-stars, for fuk sake...

It's just a fun side mission that isn't supposed to be considered canon, but, even if it was, this is Metal Gear, Snake already has a holographic palm sized map display and the series always plays fast and loose with advanced tech.

Kojima has let me down a lot lately. DLC, console exclusives, extorting us with GZ sales, evasive answers to simple questions and his usual - "I'm not directing metal gear anymore so I can focus on new projects" bullshit.

We all know that he will keep cranking out Metal gear games and smear the integrity that the series used to have.

How the mighty have fallen.

God damnit, I really hate console exclusive DLC. Both of these better become packed on the MGS5 Complete edition that has Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes with its DLC!

I swear, Kojima has gone full George Lucas. First, he shits out a ridiculous story in MGS4 tying together Big Boss to the original trilogy like he's Anakin Skywalker. Now, he's popping out countless versions of his works of 'art' with different content on each platform, so there's no single definitive version! (Remember when the restored cut of the original SW trilogy was only, or maybe still is, only on DVD!?)

OK. But the PS4 version is still coming, right? It's always somewhat baffling when fans get upset at the possibility of more people getting to play a franchise you like.

The game? This is about the exclusive content. Playstation gets a shitty minecraft skin, while Xbox gets this whole new goddamn mode. It's bullshit.

And if it's coming later who cares? I will probably have to play extra for that. Who the hell would pay extra the PS content?

With only one game exclusive to Playstation, how is the fanbase on playstation?

MGS 1 and MGS 2 and MGS3 and MGS4 were all at least exclusive when they released, and they sold incomparably to the other versions. Not to mention the MGS games on PSP, like Peace Walker which was meant to be MGS5. Let's not play pretend.

What mode? These are both just missions. MGS1 Snake has Kiefer Sutherland saying MGS1 lines and you troll around an HD PS1 Shadow Moses, while the Raiden mission has him... I dunno, running faster? Seeing blue and green outlines in people?

Danny Dudekisser

I paid good money for this Dynex!
This is an unreasonable amount of platform-specific content for what's basically a glorified demo.

Also annoying that the more interesting content is coming to the platform where the game will likely look/run worse.

Ah, modern gaming!
