Which game's fanbase has been treated the worst?

On a more serious note then my last post.

The fans of Half Life 2

They started a story arch, in a story focused game, nine years ago, that so far has ended on one the biggest cliff hangers in gaming history. And they offer no sign that they care about the fans of those games, not a single sentence of explanation.

And the only ones who are stopping them from finishing that story arch are themselves.

They might not owe anything to the fans, but that behaviour sucks. It just does. Sucks.

The Guild Wars PvP fanbase...

Okay yeah that's more on a personal level. Still can't believe they went from a winning formula to the crap that is GW2 PvP.

Yes I'm salty.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

So much potential, especially post launch with promised dlc. The Abe content alone...
This was what I was originally going to post then saw everyone was doing franchises. Even with its flaws, the game could've evolved so much. Superbot was so dedicated to it, they made 4 DLC characters in like 3 months. If they'd been kept on the game it'd have it's bugs and balance fixed and have plenty more characters.

And Presentation was the ONLY thing XIII had going for it IMO. If you call mashing X (or A for you 360 lovers) and periodically changing a paradigm "Engaging", then this ride is going to slow for me.

To each their own. I'm just going to throw out the idea that Auto-Battle is a choice. If you want to play suboptimally and mash X/A, then it's there, but you don't have to use it. I've played through the game twice normally and once on a challenge run and love the combat. You can play decently without much thought or timing, but trying to do everything optimally requires strategy, timing, and awareness. It's my favorite not-fully-real-time battle system in any game.

The Shenmue fanbase has been waiting for the last 13 years for a conclusion of their beloved game. Countless of campaigns have been held in the past; even BBC held one and SEGA cut their hopes off. Yu Suzuki's worst fear (as he have expressed) was to see the conveying message in half of its delivery; the message why friends are important "Keep friends, those you love, close, to you." Instead, Ryo is still seeking for revenge and that is not the real message that Yu wants to deliver towards the players. That has unsettle him. What else or more can I say? As Jeremy Parish (1UP Editor-in-Chief back then) once said, "Shenmue's lack of closure is a stain of shame on the video game medium as a whole." #SaveShenmue

Half Life and Shenmue fans, no doubt. The stories are unfinished and there's no current sign of them getting any form or resolution, especially Shenmue.

i don't really understand mega man mentions. the legends stuff is awful but we've been spoiled for games across mega man/x/battle network over the years.

i'd say beyond good and evil. cliffhanger ending then announcing a sequel only to not make it and bullshit for years about saying how they didn't actually announce it and obfuscating about there's a small team to make it and give fans tons of "test" games to buy

Any Shining Force fans out there? I know we are rare...

But since Shining Force III, we've been in a drought of true Force games. Sega uses the Shining franchise to release nothing but action RPGs; we want a true turn based game...

I came into this thread to say Megaman, but there's close to 20 mainline Megaman games to play (between Classic and X), so while Megaman Legends 3's cancellation stings quite a bit I think overall Megaman fans have lots of great games to play.

Oh yeah, another one.

Seriously horrible what they did to that franchise.

How were you mistreated again? Oh right, you got one bad game.
Yeah, you're right, thread over, let's pack it in and make room for these real survivors here people.

how many megaman games are there? That you get to gush about? A lot a lot a lot.

I'm not crying for you Argentina Megaman fans. Frankly you guys get what you deserved.

And I even got another one.

Duke Nukem fanbase. Slapped in the face with that Forever game :(.

Never to have a true sequel to 3D?

Things like the dmc reboot article posted before and the current state of capcom's mega man trolling are way more offensive than merely ignoring the fan base. No sequels or mention thereof? It's an implicit, "sorry guys but there weren't enough fans to carry on." But with dmc, there was an acknowledgment of the fans that exist and then the blaming of them for corporate decisions. Whereas with mml3, it seems like capcom never really had any intention of fixing their "enough fan support to pursue this plan" threshold at someplace reasonable enough for it to have a chance. Thus it seems like it was an empty gesture to placate fans temporarily and was 1000 times worse than just ignoring the series.

I have heard enough good things about colors and generations that I don't think sonic counts.

Sega, ladies and gentlemen. The way they treated their fans in recent years is just horrible. No other company doesn't even come close. They have one of the most passionate fanbases (look at Yakuza fans wanting localizing, Shenmue fans waiting for a new game after all these years and all those Bayonetta fans wanting ports of the second game) but unfortunately they seem to don't care about any of them.
Why did Sega become like this? It started after going third party, I guess?
If you're unwilling to purchase the hardware Bayonetta 2 will play on, you're not much of a fan.

Syndicate

- Yeah, we know what you want. But....we're not gonna give you that. Here's a linear FPS instead, please buy it, it's Syndicate you know. And you loved Syndicate, didn't you?

It's not up to Sega whether Bayonetta 2 gets ported. Nintendo owns the game. Or are you saying Sega should have funded/published B2?

What I meant was that it's Sega's fault that this whole port begging thing started.
If they funded the game in the first place, maybe all PS, Xbox and Nintendo console owners could enjoy it.

P.S: I am going to buy a Wii U for playing Bayo 2 :)

Surprised there's not any mention of Suikoden.

The fans have been asking for 6 for nearly 10 years. Instead they got 2 mediocre spin-offs

I'll also second Shenmue

Crysis. Crysis had a patch cancelled because they were releasing the MP with Warhead so said sod the original game (and never fixed the DX10 last level issues, along with other things).

Then butchered sequels that never came close to the original game, they also seem to drop supporting games rather quickly.

I have a hard time believing Mega Man fans are the most mistreated fans in video games.

I have a confession... I subconsciously caused the Mega Man drought. Four years ago or so, I was looking at the glut of Mega Man sequels. They had Zero, ZX, Battle Network, Star Force... Really, Mega Man was a franchise that was milked too much, over and over again. Mega Man fans had a glut of games (granted, not all of them good). And I thought, "You know what? Mega Man really needs a break. They're spreading him too thin." Even back during his best years (the originals and X games) they sequeled him like crazy.

And then, Mega Man got his break. Finally, there wasn't Mega Man Zero X Star Force Command 12 flying out of Capcom's butt twice a year. But what surprised me was how upset fans got. Did you guys really want all these watered-down side games or rehashes of the original?

No, Mega Man fans got more than their share of games, and a large portion of them were good. Now, SONIC FANS. They got a couple good games and then nothing else that would truly live up to their memories. Earthbound fans got ignored for decades. I still believe that Mega Man needed this break.

Silent Hill definitely qualifies. Sure there's still coming games out in the franchise, but given the quality of those titles, that's not really a good thing.
But at least they got the brilliant Shattered Memories fairly recently.

I think getting even one good game in 5 years means we can't say they're the worst treated.

Haven't scanned through the thread yet but Simcity...man what they did to that franchise. It took out everything that was great about previous iterations while also adding new faults. It's hard to find anything redeeming about it.

It's definitely Mega Man.

Getting new, shitty releases in your favourite franchise is one thing.

Getting no entries in your favourite franchise is another.

But being constantly teased about games that are cancelled at every occasion is just on a completely different level.
Even funnier when you realize Megaman could even be all three. Depends if you count IOS games as a new game or as another troll by Capcom
