Wii U - Overview Video

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
It is perfection that they talk about exclusive library of games and are showing Wind Waker, unless they are talking solely on the Nintendo library.

Why is their delayed reaction so hilarious hahaha

Useful but late...

It's not really useful at all, unless it's used as a commercial. How many people are actually going to Nintendo's Youtube channel and click on this video? Nintendo needs to put a shorter version of this video on TV.

I'm not sticking up for Nintendo but its kinda sad that this day in age with a majority of the population that are interested in buying video game systems or any kind of technology still can't use the internet to look up information before hand. The information is easily available yet people still choose to remain uninformed.

hahaha are you seriously putting the blame on consumers instead of WiiU's terrible branding and marketing strategy?

It is so fucking ridiculous that at the end of the overview they have to say "look for the U in the box!" (which doesn't even look like a U by the way). That just says it all.

This is ALL Nintendo's fault.

They need to do that two years ago. It's gone now. Wii U will never be anywhere close to being remotely successful.

"New technology"......why don't they say "New video game console"!? They have never said it's a new video game console in any US ad.

Because the console is not new. It's a year old. They shouldn't pretend like they just came out with it alongside the other consoles.

They also should've said "play with your friends online FOR FREE."

Nah, if people are too dumb to get that Wii U is a new console, they'll hear "free" and assume it means something different and get all mad when they find out that the console doesn't come with a free online game or something.

"Unlike other consoles, no subscription fee" I guess would be good!

Yes, but they didn't. You can't keep dwelling about the past. What happened happened. All they can do is to act NOW!

Pretty obvious from the ad they are trying to grab that casual family market they think still exists for their product. Maybe they are right.

Still, this is easily three months too late. It is Decemeber 20th FFS. Christmas shopping is essentially over.

Wow that sounds fun! Is there even a thread for this?

Not sure. Although I joked about it, I would actually consider entering to win a second WiiU. However, I doubt that Nintendo would appreciate my pitch of 'best tv based web browser ever' very much.

edit: forgot a word

Actually tomorrow should be the biggest shopping day of the year, but yeah this is too late. At least it is something and maybe signals their expanded audience marketing along with Wii Fit U.

Ah, I remember that thread. Most most of the later pages were replying to the commercial itself. Not the contest.

haha

I remember when WebTV was something only yuppies could have. :)

...high-fiving each other and laughing their asses off at racing past each other at Mario Kart. That's so unbelievably fake. It's not what gaming is. Everyone knows that. They're fooling nobody.
This is actually my experience with the WiiU to the T.

Rayman Legends, Spin the Bottle, Mario 3D World, Cloudberry Kingdom, New Super Mario/Luigi U, Tekken, Nintendo Land, ZombiU's multiplayer, Pikmin's bingo battle and Sonic Transformed have all made sure of that.

Actually looking forward to Wii Party U as well.

Nintendo outsources marketing to the fans. 'Send us your best pitch for a WiiU' sounds less like a competition and more like a desperate plea for help.

Someone please make a thread for this so we can make promotional posters for Nintendo. Hopefully it'll catch on as much as the Banderas GIF thread
j/k, but not really

Recently I heard someone suggest this: that Nintendo's original soft push for Wii U was in fact a result of their greed over pushing original Wii sales and stock for another christmas (x-mas 2012).

That being Nintendo likes to maximize all their products and they wouldn't have wanted people to think the original Wii was suddenly old junk and not worth owning by presenting it as abandoned in favor of a new platform. Many christmas shoppers may have passed on picking up Wii stock without any guarantee they'd buy a much more expensive Wii U instead.

Given how Nintendo operates I think this is actually plausible.

Mario Chase made me literally roll on the floor laughing my ass off. I remained there for the rest of the session. That's what gaming is about. Fun with friends. We can sit here and praise the game design of Galaxy 2, but ultimately nothing is more fun than local multiplayer, the kind which Nintendo provides.

I loled at this part:

"And with so many games coming soon, there's no better time to buy".

Actually there is. When all of those "many games" are released (they actually just showed MK8 and DKC, as that's pretty much all that's coming in the next 6 months).

Also, so many Wiimotes in that video, yet the Wii U console does not come with one.

I have never been comfortable seeing the Wii U associated with previous gen controllers so damn often.

The fact that the Sonic & Mario Wii U game actually requires wiimotes to play is just unbelievable.

or they have given up on the core market and decided causal family market is the only route left for them.

I do think that market has gone though.

Yeah.

People have to watch the video first is the big problem. 3 months ago a video like this could probably have gotten a decent amount of views and reeled in some customers. Who is going to be able to watch this and make up their mind in the next 12 hours for it to matter.

Liked the part where the mom kicks her husband and son off the couch, so she and her jersey clad girlfriends can watch some football

Yeah, I can't believe they didn't hire a better director and editor so that things didn't appear so forced and contrived. It's a damn ad for Pete's sake.

"Would you like to play with a Wii U? Look at these indifferent people."

All the moms out there sure have their finger on the pulse, no way they'd ever buy a console that isn't performing well on the NPD charts!

I'm not sure they should bother with some of the stuff like having mom use YouTube to learn how to cut carrots. Is anyone really going to buy a video game console for that? Especially a mother?

Oh snap! Just realized I can use it for this. A tablet in the kitchen for recipes would be seriously handy.

Director: ".... aaaaaand SMILE."

Kid: "I wish I was playing PS4 right now."
You guys watch the video or just the GIF? It's supposed to be a forced awkward smile. Sis and Bro think Mom's over the top antics are dorky. Sis even rolls her eyes. It's like a parody of all of the cheesy Wii ads.

Now put it on every channel you can afford and make it sure it spams youtube ads for the next week.

I wonder who planned to have this put up on Dec 20th, 5 days away from Christmas! Wonder how much this ad will be played in the next few days.

"Just look for the u on the box"

This system will go down in history as an advertisment case study of what complete failure looks like.

It really could be either - who the fuck knows with these guys :?

"Wii U is an entirely new technology"

WHY DO THEY KEEP USING WORDING LIKE THAT IN ADS? Just say it's a brand new console, yeesh.

I do not like the fact that they are promoting HD. Don't get me wrong it's a good thing, but promoting standard features across the industry is hardly worth talking about. Oh well, not a bad ad all in all, just a bit too late.

Way to go Nintendo! This is definitely a step in the right direction. I much prefer having a narrator who explains the features rather than having some kids with cheesy dialogue. Too bad it's too long to be a commercial. I'm sure they could slim it down though.

Strictly speaking it isn't too long for a commercial. There's a 30 second standard in the industry because TV ads are expensive, but if a company is willing to splash the cash there's nothing stopping Nintendo from showing the full ad.

A commercial like that would definitely be worth Nintendo spending the money, it's going to sell systems without a problem...particularly in the run up to Christmas.
