guys, the universe has forced me to step away from Marvel Heroes (its maintenance day lol) so I have a few hours to finally try to Rising. Anything I should know going in, Ive been reading stuff about buying the dodge or something?

yeah, buy the dodge and air parry, you'll use them a lot.

I just finished Torchlight 2, i played as Enginner, on Veteran difficulty, 67/123 achievements, and 29 hrs. Almost all the time on Sigle Player.

The game is not bad, but honestly expecting much more of it, it's almost like the first, I think the main reason it was rated so high was just to troll Diablo 3.

I do not care about the story or characters, even less than the first, the character design seems bad. The enemies are only 4 and the others are just clones with different external design, the music is perfect to put on mute and put some podcast, the difficulty is pretty easy, the bosses of each dungeon are the same as normal just bigger not contribute anything new.

As I said the game is not bad but is not good, it's a mediocre game in my opinion, enjoy more the first, this looks like a mod, I'm much more critical in this that even as a small company, my expectation was so high on this sequel because of the success of the first one.

Want a mindless game? and want to click a lot? and want to listen your podcast? get this.

Path of Exile? is better?

You learn during your first playthrough. MGR:R is a very "learn from doing" game.
But the idea would be "if you're not getting graded on it and earning points from it, why bother with the possibility of taking damage/wasting items/etc." You'll earn about the same from doing stealth kills and being undetected... if you're all about combat and just want balls to the wall nonstop action, you can fight everything, but if you're on mission 3 (R02) and you've played for any length, you should've run into a Mastiff already. And those things suck. So when you come to the spot where you can stealth mastiffs instead of fighting them (any of the patrols -- they're not graded), there's no reason to engage 3+ at once when you can pick off 1 at a time, if that makes sense.

Also:
Any forced battle is graded.
Any sub-boss battle is graded.
Any call for backup battle is graded.
Any boss battle is graded.
Any hidden battle is graded.

That should cover most of them. If you see a - in your results, like AAABSS-ABS or whatever, that's a hidden battle or call for backup that you missed.
Thanks a lot for this! The game sure does a great work of avoiding explaining its mechanics.

What are hidden battles? Or, actually (since the name is pretty self-descriptive), how/where can I find them? I got a "-" in the Case #1 results.

Path of Exile is worth a look (Its free). But it depends on your playstyle if you would like PoE more than T2.

Mostly Backtracking if Boris or somebody else says there is backup on the way.

Mastiffs are annoying in Rising but I find them straight forward because they only do those same moves that I could dodge, I still haven't figured out how to deal with raptors and those electrical balls.

Also in the DLC missions the VR rooms that you can trigger mid-level (5 in each) have their grades show up in the final tally. It threw me for a loop at first when I was missing a couple in each.

Does Steam notify you if it removes a game from your library? I've just noticed my GRID 2 I got from that Random Game Keys site isn't there. I'm sure I registered it.

Not only that, but the store page shows my badge progress like I did own it as no other game I don't own shows that.

Learn to parry...a lot. Buy Defensive Offense as soon as you can. It's the games 'dodge'.

It's probably the two helicopters one. Boris says something about reinforcements and you can go back to fight if you wish. Should be a green dot on your radar, instead of the yellow for the main objective

edit : hm. read your response above. Nevermind

Nope. Try contacting the site you purchased the key from for a replacement.

You don't have to own a game to see your badge progress on the store page.

If you registered it there should be a record of it in your account details.

well that chapter 1 of rising sure was fucking bananas wasnt it, good lord. So good. Gameplay is a bit weird, obviously need to get the parry down, and I kept dying on the building run which killed the momentum of the scene, oh well :(

Hahaha. It's like Dark Souls. No handholding -- they tell you what you need to know either in the codec conversations that are forced or in the 5 or so VR training missions that unlock. (I think the second one tells you to light attack in the same direction to parry, but they don't necessarily make you practice...)

Hidden battles tend to be in side areas or revisiting certain areas after some events have occurred. In R02, they'll tell you about the hidden battle, I think, since it's classified as "intercepting a call for backup".
In R03 (on the rooftops) there's a spot where if you're exploring you can go left instead of straight forward -- and there will be a hidden battle over there.
In R01, the one you probably missed, since Boris will tell you about the call for backup before you approach the refinery (and it leads to a battle with two helicopters), is the one after you take the left arm of the officer to open the door. If, instead of open the door, you run back to where you encountered the heli after running across the bridge, a hidden battle will trigger where you fight 3 or so gliders and 1-2 foot soldiers.

Mastiffs are annoying in Rising but I find them straight forward because they only do those same moves that I could dodge, I still haven't figured out how to deal with raptors and those electrical balls.

Have you tried your hand at VR018?
You'll hate mastiffs and wolves more than anything else after you attempt that 300x.
Mastiffs hit like a freight train and if you have to deal with their damn wall hang/bounce so they're off camera? Good lord.

As for the raptors, the EMP balls you just dodge backwards out of range when you see them charging it up.
If you hit them enough to overload them (or change weapons to something like the armor breaker or stun blade fully upgraded) they become a lot less of a problem.
You can use the charged up Sai to EMP them.
You can use the polearm to register a lot of hits and overload them.
Or you can dodge back and use a charged pincer blade to wreck them.
Depends on your playstyle I guess.

This guy uses ripper mode with the polearm to get an s-rank on revengeance, he's also using the infinite blade mode wig, but the same idea applies:

Not in reference to you but for everyone:
In general, one thing to learn as you get better at rising is that your sub weapons are very situational and you should swap them as needed, even mid fight.
If you fight a battle with gliders/helicopters, for example, Sai is awesome because you can use it to automatically target them in the air without any camera shift, etc. The EMP stun of the charged one is useful, but there are other situations where the sai is not a recommended subweapon (dwarf gekkos are better handled by the polearm, etc.). Charged pincer attacks are good for things with heavy armor, but you have to be good at evading and setting up yourself to charge the attacks in the openings since pincers are very slow.

Oh man, the Final Boss of Revengeance is giving me a headache. If it was just difficult, I could live with it, but the Zandatsu moment (if you have fought him you know what I mean) is just unfair. You have to react split second, be precise, and if you fail it's instadeath, even if you're performing well and parrying his attacks, which sometimes is a pain in the ass. The rest of the game is great, once I got the timing of the parrys I was almost invincible, save for a couple of boss fights.

On a side note, the plot is nuts. I guess at some point they just said "let's go bananas" and followed to the end. Not that I care too much (being a Metal Gear fan gets you used to this kind of humour), but sometimes I don't even know how to react. Like the scene with the security guard of Solis.

I use family sharing but sometimes I lose access to my brother's games and have to log into his account to authorize myself to access his library again. Anyone else have this issue?

Any hype for Assasin's Creed Liberation HD? I picked it up for $5 on GMG when it was mispriced awhile back. It looks like JaseC is the only one on my friends list who has it.

Played it on PSP2. Story is fuck awful. Once you get the whip, abuse the shit out of it unless they fixed that glitch.

Nope, I probably won't do the VR training stuff. Oh I used the hf blade the entire game because i hated using the menu lol, so I just have to slash them enough :(

After a playthrough it felt like I only really beat the raptors quicker because I upgraded my blade, I still haven't figured out how to stun/kill them effectively, especially when fighting against 3 of them.

I can't not spend 16 hours in Civ 5 over the weekend and not feel like a complete waste of life on Monday. Ugh.

Need to get over that.

With how I feel at work today after spending Friday & Saturday drinking with friends, I'd much rather have the feeling of playing Civ V all weekend.

I'm sure it's been asked a million times before, but I'm positive I've seen it in a screenshot before.

Is there a skin, that gets rid of the borders between games in Grid mode?

You need to edit some config files for that.
I'm sure someone that has done it can explain.

Is it launching on Steam? The timer counts down to their usual update time :p

Either way, I want this and shall get it. Might not be today though, damn long times between pay days.

Yes, it should release at the same time that the store updates. I'll bite the bullet if the price is right.

So I did a reformat of my computer and I've been downloading a bunch of games on Steam again. Problem is, none of the games that use DirectX work. Steam installs (or tries to install) DirectX, but then the Steam "installing DX" window closes and the game doesn't launch (and no error message pops up btw). This happens every single time I try to run a DirectX game. By doing a search, I see that this is somewhat of a common problem, but I don't know what I should do to fix it.

Help?

Grab a full DirectX installer directly from Microsoft.
