Maybe someone's beaten me to the punch but here's a coloured table of the last 5 years of top 10 games:

Depressing.

What is craziest to me is that in all of those years there are two entries for call of duty. The treyarch games seem to have slightly longer legs.

2009 was still individual SKUs. If it was combined like it was in 2010 to present, some of those Nintendo titles would have been bumped off for AssCreed and Madden.

I was wondering why Modern Warfare 2 was listed at #1 and #8 in 2009

How arrogant. If numbers weren't swished they wouldn't have said anything at all.

Anyway the shooters selling better are expected with th install base so close. The 4.8m games though? I guess that's due to them having more exclusives?

Honestly it appears the xbox will maintain its advantage in the US. The numbers don't lie here; it's more expensive and managed to lead in Dec. They market their consoles very well in the US.

Unless you just want to make exclusives look better, I think it is better this way. Especially now when we would get a Dec top 10 with multiple CODs and Battlefield 4s if it was still an individual SKU chart.

That both COD and BF4 sold better is interesting and I think it will be an important statistic. Both games have content coming to Xbox before the PlayStation, so it would be a bad look if the PS4 had the larger audience. I wonder if this also influenced EA's decision for Titanfall?

For whatever reason in 2009 they had 360 (first place) and PS3 (eighth place) separately.

"Selling more" doesnt tell much tough, unfortunately. Technically, the Xbox One could have sold one more copy compared to the PS4 version, and it would still have been "selling more".

It was a policy that wasn't implemented until late 2010.
Before that, NPD listed every SKU differently.

I'm glad 3DS is the best selling system of the year. Puts Nintendo in a good light regardless of the Wii U. Imagine if the 3DS was also struggling!

But I'm still disappointed with the lack of 3DS games releasing and the poor software attachment. If the console is best selling, it'd be nice to see more titles on the NPD top 10 or 20, with Zelda and Pokemon with longer legs.

So MS is releasing NPD numbers for other platforms now? I would assume only Sony knows the true total, since NPD isn't the full number.

Injustice would not count. He's said 1st/2nd party only.

Killzone at 598k, assuming knack sold 1k, is pretty bad though.
