Sony won't offer option to disable PS4 DualShock 4 light bar

My Tv is in the corner of the room so i only get a slight reflection off of the bezel, so thats fine.

What's not fine is the pathetic battery life this thing has with the lightbar on.

one 3 hour session on knack and its gone from fully charged to one bar.
after another hour or so and its dead

my vita lasts longer then this.

It's a completely useless feature. It should be activated only when playing with the camera and that thing will never get any support anyway so they may as well just disable it alltogether.

I love my PS4, but this is some bullshit.

Anyone saying "just turn the controller off", well, no. Obviously that doesn't work for games, but even with Netflix I might want to quickly pause the show for a whole bunch of reasons.

I don't even care about the light bars impact on battery, I just don't want my controller glowing. Ever.

Well, this is just great. Another piece of home electronics that I have to put fucking tape over. Thanks a lot.

Maybe some third party controllers will come out that don't have the always on LED.

I dunno, I kind of have mine in my lap so don't even notice when it flashes green/red in games indicating health. It should be an option because it's pretty much adds nothign at the moment.

Seems a pretty boneheaded decision to rule it out.

Oh well - who wants to look into making solid adhesive stickers that dont allow light bleed?

So much for a new Sony, one month in and back to their old ways.

Oh dear really ? god this thread is like a whingers delight this light bar really is a non issue yeah the option should be available to disable but as it stands for the moment its unlikely so suck it up you set of girls .

I find it exceptionally useful as a late night torch so for me it can stay .

You knew it was going to be an issue when you bought it, why buy it then whine about it?
Presumably because the pros of the system outweighed this con. You can still enjoy a system while being annoyed by certain features/quirks. It's a reasonable thing to whine about, particularly when you know they could do something about it without any hardware changes.

I often watch movies on amazon instant with my lights off. I always have to make sure the controller is completely out of eye sight.

Hopefully yeah. Thing is, the DS4 is a really nice controller in every other respect, and don't third party controllers tend to suck (serious question, I've not used a third party controller since the 90's, but back then at least it was always inferior to have to use your mate's third party controller when round at their house)?

I have a VT60 and I never ever notice the blue light.

This seems like the worst thing to complain about, as if it's just to have something to complain about.

Speaking of annoyances, does the PS4 insist on emitting a high-pitched beep when you turn it on?

This "feature", all by itself, prevents me from ever playing my PS3 when my SO is sleeping.

If the PS4 doesn't do this, I could probably tolerate the annoying lightbar.

What's the use for the light bar? Is it a sensor like the one of the Move?
Yes, it's a tracking reference for the camera, the same principle as the Move. In this case they're also using it in place of the red dots of the DS3 to show when the controller is on, and which player/controller you are for local multiplayer. It has to be pretty bright for consistent tracking, but when the game isn't making use of that (which is most of them), it could be dimmed for everything else.

That is a very light sleeper. I'd give you the Macbook Pro startup noise but the PS3 beep waking up your partner is crazy!

So Microsoft made a 180 with their DRM fiasco, but Sony won't offer an option to disable the light bar. That's amazing in and of itself although it is a minor annoyance

One month in and people are back to their old ways, didn't take long for whiners to turn on Sony, for such a non-issue like this you expect them to waste coding time on a feature that a small percentage of people are going to use?

I'd rather have DLNA and videoplayback support than whether I can turn the freaking joypad light on or off.

Thanks, I imagine it was something like that but wasn't completely sure. I could swear this issue came out before the console was launched but the people that actually tried the console said it wasn't noticeable. Is annoying that it is and more than they won't to fix it, but I'm sure they will eventually.

that tweet thread actually ends on a more positive note than is implied by the OP and CVG article IMO:
So Shu recognizes that there's a problem but refuses to to fix it?
You knew it was going to be an issue when you bought it, why buy it then whine about it?
Plasmas have a superior picture compared to LCD/LED TVs. When you by a TV you look at the quality among other things such as size/price/etc. but you never keep in mind that someday some company may just create a device that has a LED build into their remote that will reflect of the TV.

What does that have to do with anything?

Glass reflects, surely that would have factored into your decision. Sony didn't make you buy a Plasma so now you have to deal with the issues that arise from having a glass screen.

Suck it up or don't play on the console, problem solved. Sony aren't going to spend time and money to "fix" something so trivial.

Why would you live there- level of delusion.

It's an asinine design choice, on Sony's part, that is easily fixable (by them), get over it.

Yeah cause choosing to have a glass screened TV that is obviously going to have reflections is the same as living in a place you don't want to be.

It's a design choice that they chose, they don't want to "fix" a non-issue, get over it.

So according to you I should settle for a screen with a worse picture because Sony doesn't want to give us the option to turn of their useless LED on the controller? A LED that has absolutely zero reason to be on when there's no PS EYE connected. Resulting in a LED that uses too much of the already low battery life of the DS4.
Your sounding an awful lot like Adam Orth right now.

OMG why people keep talking about reflections and stuff?? Who cares...
The real problem is the battery!!!

He says the light doesn't drain the battery? PROVE IT

Good god just fucking deal with it, its a light it's not the end of the world. There are plenty of other things that need fixing or improving before enabling users to dim a fucking LED in a controller, get a sense of perspective. If it's such a ridiculous, world ending problem then take the controller apart and remove the LED.

When did gamers get so fucking whiny and entitled.

Again with the Adam Orth syle. So because I don't want a controller with a useless function enabled that significantly lowers the battery life(10h with LED vs 28h without LED) and gives a nasty reflection I'm acting entitled?

Since when became people corporate apologist?

You knew it before you bought it and you bought it anyway and are now whining about it, deal with it or remove the LED, don't expect Sony to bow at your feet and give you the ability forthwith.

I'm not an apologist I'm just sick of people whining about inconsequential little things when there are actual things that could be added and improved.

Buy some electrical tape, remove the LED, sell the console, stop whining, I don't give a shit just do one of them.

Whenever I end up getting a PS4, I'll remember to pick up some electrical tape at the same time to tape over the light bar.

Pretty weird that they wouldn't let you turn it off when it's not needed.

Ugh, how can something so simple be ignored? The light is not even used that much (only as a tracker for the camera right?) so they should definitely reconsider this.

Please tell me you are trolling. This is just mean-spirited and apologist.

How funny that the argument "you knew it before you bought it" goes other "problems" with the system as well.

Besides how the hell does one know about the battery life before the thing is launched?

Adding the option to turn off the LED isn't rocket science and could be done by a single engineer in a short time span, resulting in an extremely minimal delay for other fixes that's most likely not even noticeable. This would result in given people more than double the battery life while costing you nothing.

If you don't care please stop posting here or stop acting like the problems doesn't exist.

COD local mp supports 16 bots in split. Glorious chaos and fun as hell.

And yes, one blue and one red light is not all that fun to watch on the screen.

Yes, I'm sounding like Sony DefForce, but what kind of TVs are you guys using? I can barely see it on mine when I concentrate.
