Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Nausica and Castle in the Sky. I think I saw Kiki's Delivery service once, a long, long, long time ago. Ghibli movies are great, yes, and they'd fall into the category of rare anime movies that I don't feel the violent urge to leave part way through.

It's funny, cuz I enjoy anime, but thus far I really don't like anime movies.

Might try Sword of the Stranger or the Blue Exorcist movie but otherwise there's a lot of bad ones out there and it's easy to sour one's self on them.

No, its basically Yamakan aping the Amachan concept (not sure if he thought this up before Amachan but I somehow doubt it) of the life of an idol in the Earthquake area. I haven't seen it but I'm going to TAKE A WILD GUESS and say that them being idols contribute to recovery efforts because they make the children and old people happy and keep morale up.

That doesn't sound anything at all like what Wake Up Girls is actually about. It's a show about a girl who was a member of a more popular idol unit, but got forced out, and some time later she becomes a part of a new more indie idol group trying to make it big from scratch. It's filled with draaaaaaaaaaama, but it seems more like a "wanna be realistic" idol show than Idolmaster or Love Live.

Speaking of that, you should probably watch Macross: Do You Remember Love?.

I see no Porco Rosso on that list. You need to correct this asap.

Why you don't watch Do You Remember Love yet..

Btw since Disney ditching 2D, its really hard for me to giving a damn to hollywood animation blockbuster.. I really don't like the artstyle approach.

I do enjoy Cloudy and the Meatballs though, its just clicking to me.

Realism like skeevy producers pushing the idols into pervy photo shoots. Yamakan exposing the dark side of the idol industry. Or something.

Oh, really? I'm way off then. But I saw Tohoku and my mind immediately went to earthquake related stuff.

Soon. I'm in no rush to see a movie with Minmay and Hikaru Ichijo. They can wait till Musashi crushes the Dinosaur Empire.

I see no Porco Rosso on that list. You need to correct this asap.

I forgot to add Totoro to that, but yes, I haven't seen Porco Rosso. Also Spirited Away if I forgot that. Howl's is my favorite, though.

I confess I wasn't a huge fan of the designs of Elsa and Ana, but honestly, Frozen was impressive to me visually and from a story telling standpoint. The graphics of the ice, man. That stuff was absolutely amazing to look at. I really appreciated that the movie went about subverting a fair number of Disney Princess Standards
"You can't marry someone you just met!"
, but I feel that it sort of fell for the most classic Disney Movie Blunder of 'em all at the end
Hans shouldn't have been evil. He just should've not been her true love. That would've been so much harder hitting than just making him evil. It's the same as in The Lion King: Just because Scar was evil doesn't mean he should've been a shitty King, because then it would've been a lot more intense making Simba fight him for his right to rule and exposing him as the real killer, rather than just "Eh whatever Scar was a shitty King anyway." I appreciated that they made the true love between sisters, but there was no need for that last minute "Hans is evil!" reveal.

It's pretty self-contained. Might help with some background stuff but it's sort of like the 6th One Piece movie where you can infer enough to follow.

Yeah I don't think that's really much incentive for someone who already doesn't enjoy anime movies to go rushing into it.

More of a case where the main cast is established but if you want to know who incidental background character B is in their 4 minutes of screentime, previous knowledge would be nice. Also it has some of the best art directiona round.

I decided to binge on a bunch of new season shows instead of catching up on my 2013 backlog ;_; and current impressions are Nisekoi looks fun, Noragami is good so far, Inari Konkon Koi Iroha has earned a 2nd episode watch and Witchcraft Works is garbage.

Dude you need to stop watching so much bad anime.

I don't actually think I can. Even when I think I've found a good show someone else tells me it sucks. So soldiering through the shit is the way to be.

Eh. You know how terrible I am at appreciating the aesthetic quality of things.

It would be nice if this show could decide on being one show instead of at least three kind of poorly mashed together. The police procedural and the grand magical action are not playing well with each other.

Given I mostly know shows by their romanised japanese name and not dopey US names thats never bothered me. The big weird name thing I noticed is I can't add Robotech as Robotech. I have to add it as Macross which is pretty hilarious given Robotech is not just Macross dubbed.

Mostly it doesnt but with a large enough list you start noticing not being able to recognize shows and its just aggravating.

So I just watched all of Frozen and felt entertained the entire way through. I don't remember the last time I saw an anime movie that I didn't start clock-watching half way through. Could be that 90% of the anime movies I've seen are shitty Gundam or List ones, but I dunno. I mean I really enjoyed Wolf Children but even that one I felt super impatient with.

I watched Frozen 3 times Corvy. Im addicted to it. I need to watch it more.

Had to pick my jaw up off the floor after this one. The visuals of the Garmillians
destroying that planet were breathtaking. Gave me vibes of Love Drifts Away.
And the ship combat at the end of the episode constantly had me at the edge of my seat.

You're watching List shows. There are definitely shows where people argue over quality but most of those List shows are on that list for a reason. It's fine to watch a bad show, that you know is bad going in, every now and then but you're missing out on a lot of the classics.

I actually started watching Witchcraft today and it's not that bad actually. The animation is surprisingly good and there is a lot of kinetic energy that is missing from the manga.

The MC being beta as fuck is also sorta amusing now.

I haven't read the Noragami manga but I'm afraid that it will take a battle manga turn instead of monster of the week and while that transition is probably not as bad as Medaka Box, I don't generally like battle shounen so I hope they don't do it.

Is Space Dandy really that disappointing? I was waiting for impressions before picking it up but hearing all this negativity is making me sad. Watanabe should have stuck to making slice of life period shows then.

It's okay. The thing is, 'okay' is a very poor performance considering the staff.
The animation on the other hand is glorious. I'd even say it's exceeding expectations.

It's a fun ride, but it's not the saviour of anime.

It's not really disappointing if you weren't pre-hpying yourself. But, alas, this is AnimeGAF

There are a lot of accents this season lol.

I wouldn't say that. I still need to watch the third episode, but I didn't find the stories in episodes one and two interesting at all. If it weren't for the expectation that it'd get better and the animation, I'd probably have dropped it already.

no it just kinda fails, no need to consider 'saving anime' or hype

i disagree, it's perfectly entertaining and I don't see the sky-is-falling stuff everybody is calling out at all.

Sure considering staff pedigree, not what I would have expected. But I don't think it's bad.

It's pretty much the same conclusion that I've reached will Kill la Kill. I wasn't particularly hyped for it myself - interested, yes. But I've read so much criticism of well...criticism that stems around 'expecations', that people will continually conflate anything negative with that.

It's just as feasible to dislike a show on its own terms.
