Bold 2014 Playstation predictions

This was inspired by Podcast Beyond doing their annual predictions, and I started thinking about what I would say if I were on the Podcast.

1. Persona 5 will release concurrently on PS3 and Vita- Surprisingly, I feel this is the safest prediction of my three. I very much doubt SEGA are going to look at those P4G sales on Vita then continue to bank on previous gen only. That just does not sound like their go.

2. The Order: 1886 will be delayed until either December 2014 or early 2015 - I'm thinking this game will have to be extensively showcased in the second quarter before and during E3 in order for it to be iron clad for this year. The fact we've seen virtually nothing this long after it was announced is probably not a good sign. If it does get delayed, it will absolutely ravage Sony's lineup for the latter half of the year.

3. Playstation Now won't launch on time in the U.S - I share this one with the Beyond guys. Sony are obviously banking a lot on this service so they're going to want it to work as perfectly as possible. If they feel they need to delay it, they will.

EDIT Honorable mention: Sony will officially announce the "indefinite shelving" (read: cancellation) of The Last Guardian.

R@D were more than ready to demo it at VGX but Sony said no.

This is the same as many of the Great Unanswered Sony Questions of our Time - and the answer always comes back to Sony wanting to get the console launched and out of the way before starting on more PR messaging.

Yosp said this about the rumoured VR headset;

Rushy has said it was Sony's marketing team put the kibosh on Evo releasing the multi-car racing footage of the latest DC build.

- Sony will announce LBP and Little Big Karting for PS4 in E3. They will promote shit out of them throughout the year. LBP will be released in september, Karting in december.

- Uncharted 4 will be out in October, Ratchet: Nexus 2 (PS4) in November.

- Uncharted 4 won't be a free-roaming game as everyone hoped. Same cinematic experience as three previous games.

- The Order 1881: March, 2015.

- Sony Japan's new game will be announced in E3. It'll neither be The Last Guardian or Puppeteer 2. It will be a PS4 exclusive.

- Sony will publish Level-5's next big HD RPG game for PS4. It won't be a crappy thing like White Knight.

- Also will be announced in E3: Santa Monica's new game (not God of War) and Sly 5 from Sanzaru. Both will miss 2014.

- PS4 will sell like hotcakes but this will kill PS3 quickly. After GT6, Sony will stop releasing games for PS3.

- PS4 won't get any third party exclusives in 2014. In 2015 however, there will be new Tales game for the system exclusively. And maybe couple of other JRPGS.

- Only 3 games will be out from Sony for Vita. Gravity Rush 2, Killzone Mercenary 2 and Bend's new game, a new IP. Third party Vita games are all JRPG's. Square will release Birth By Sleep HD for Vita too. Vita will get tons of indie games next year, more than it got in 2013.

The Getaway makes a return, headed by ex-Rockstar staff.

Colony Wars Next and Alpha Boost (spiritual successor to Omega Boost) both announced at E3 along with a resurface of older PS1 and PS2 francises.

Rocksteady's New Batman releases in either December or 1st quarter 2015. Golden age Batman based on Alex Ross design, emphasis on detective work and less combat.

Umm Jammer or Parappa rhythm game for PSEye.

Other:
The World Ends With You successor jumps to PS4 and Vita. TLG shelved indefinately. FFXV release date announced for late 2015. VR headset still a no show until next year. E3 and TGS are all about Sony getting old PS1-PS2 fanbase back.

Jumping Flash would be an awesome VR flagship.

My three bold predictions for PS4 and 2014 (lemon-guaranteed):

1: Gears of War (sorta of reboot) announced for PS4 (and Xbox One) at E3

2: Sony will launch its MOBA, with cross-play for PS4 and Vita.

3: Resident Evil XX (non necessarily RE7) announced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Knack definitely, probably not for AC and Killzone. up till now, no killzone games have been offered for free, not Killzone 1-3, nor Mercenary and Liberation

Yep Sony games with an online multiplayer games never go PS+. Maybe an only single player release of Shadow Fall but that would be mean because the single player is terrible and the multiplayer is awesome.

A second Uncharted for Vita will be announced. No Infamous for Vita.

Standard operating procedure for JRPGs at this point seems to be to release on PS3 first and then Vita port later. Some people who would otherwise just buy it on Vita buy on PS3 just to play it, and some people who would otherwise just buy it on PS3 buy the Vita version for the bonus content. I highly doubt P5 will break this trend in any way other than doing an enhanced PS4 port as well as a Vita port.

As far as my predictions go:

-PS4 expands its worldwide lead over XBone to 2:1, and has a decent lead over XBone in the US.
-FFXV comes out Holiday '14
-Last Guardian resurfaces at E3 2014
-Sony announces a PS Vita phone. OLED screen, controls that slide out from the sides, 32-64GB internal memory + SD card slot for non-game storage, $199-299 w/contract.

I want to get a port of P5 to Vita or PS4 very much. I'd settle for an easy, convenient way to stream it over PS Now. I wouldn't mind a bit of lag for turn-based RPGs.

I'm not saying Persona 5 will be on Vita (I genuinely have no idea, although I have hope), but I'd like to ask the people saying it can't be done for technical reasons to consider that Killzone: Mercenary ran a modified version of the Killzone 3 engine. If that can be pulled off so well on the Vita (in a genre that is much more dependent on both graphical fidelity and quick responses), I fail to see how a Persona game would be out of the realm of technical possibility. They might have to do something about Vita cart size limitations (or put it on several carts, I guess), but yeah..

Nah, sadly Vitabros will have to wait for a Persona 5 Platinum edition.

I don't believe Sony would cancel TLG after all this time and money sunk into it. Clearly the game's been rebooted, but I still believe it's coming... in fact....

1) The Last Guardian will be rerevealed this year.
2) PS Vita TV will come to the west, but probably under a different name, and feature PS Now functionality.
3) Final Fantasy Type-0 will be released in NA.
4) Fallout 4 will be announced to have exclusive (timed) PS content.
5) Infamous game will be announced for PS Vita.

Sega is supporting Vita pretty well with PSO2 and Phantasy Star Nova actually. They're not averse to big projects on Vita, and P5 would just be a safe port and not an exclusive.

I could see it happening.

And not being localised, just like Sega is already telling there's no interest in bringing PS Nova =[

Here's my predictions:
PS4 VR will be better than most expect and will have significant developer support.

SSM's new IP will be a major E3 reveal.

The Order 1886 and Uncharted will be out this fall

My BOLD prediction:
PS4 will be the only home console Valve supports and will recieve all updates the PC versions get. L4D3 is demoed on PS4 VR and HL3 gets a teaser trailer

Netflix on PS4 will be patched so you can turn the controller off without it pausing what you're watching

I can dream :-(

neojubei

Will drop pants for Sony.
I'll make some predictions

1. Uncharted 4 is a 2015 game but the E3 2014 trailer alone will sell consoles.

2. The Order will be out in fall 2014 or a bit later nearing november.

3. Playstation Now will work but the subscription model will be expensive, Sony will reevaluate the pricing after a few months.

4. At least 3 Japanese RPGs will be announced exclusive to the ps4 and of those 3 one will be a major Japanese rpg franchise the other 2 new ips.

5. Syphon Filter ps4 announcement

6. There will be at least one special edition ps4 out for Japan that's bundled with a game.

Id settle for PS4 up-ressed and remote play. I cant personally see Sega investing that much into Vita.

Really?

Persona 5 isn't happening on Vita day 1 anyways. They're not going to make their userbase choose between versions. They'll release the PS3 version first, Vita second, and potentially a PS4 port last for maximum milkage.

That said, I can see Persona 3 getting another re-release on Vita this year. Those movies have to be leading up to something more than just Etrian Odyssey: Persona Edition.

Driveclub will release before E3, but will be the first demonstration of Sony's VR solution at E3 and will be usable on the show floor. Announced to be releasing holiday 2014 for $299.

TLG will be announced at E3, and it will be revealed that it's releasing the week after E3. It's turned into a co-op adventure that you can play with your dog.

My bold prediction, I warn you this is a very ambitious thing I'm suggesting:

By the end of the year, we will at least be able to tone down the light on the dualshock 4, and the dualshock 4 will have at least one revision.

There.

I don't believe for a second you will see the Vita getting Persona 5. An upscaled version on PS4 is your best bet. The Vita doesn't have the capability to run a game that has PS3 assets, so they would basically have to make a completely separate game instead of just porting it.
..... have you ever played persona?

The Last Guardian gets a re-reveal trailer at Sony's E3 conference this year, is scheduled to release early 2015.

PaRappa the Rapper gets a new game on the Vita. Is episodic in structure.

Gravity Daze 2 releases in Japan late 2014. West won't get it until next year.

Shenmue III is announced at E3 this year as a PS4-exclusive, Suzuki directs the project while Cerny keeps a stern eye on the team to ensure they're staying within budget.
