Tomb Raider Definitive Edition - PlayStation 4 = ~60fps, Xbox One = ~30fps

Why are so many of us convinced of that? I remember in the PS3's early years, multiplatform games were absolute shart for the system. But it improved over the years and toward the end, there was parity.

Why are we so sure the Xbox One won't make similar strides down the line?

And I'm not saying it will! I'm just curious.

Because the PS3 had a much more powerful CPU, and devs improved its implementation over the years.

The One has ... Kinect, and unless that is where MS have hidden the dGPU, there's no tech in the machine that can close the power gap.

agreed. a unlocked frame-rate around the 30fps mark means it will usually range around 24fps to 30fps. for those who don't know, 24fps is the standard used in cinema. this means the game will be delivered in a much more believable and superior experience, with the slow down happening at just the right times to make the action more tense and vibrant.

the ps4 while unlocked at 60fps will just like a cheap daytime tv show, and will be inferior because of it.

That shit doesn't make any sense... For COD for example, 720p can affect gameplay especially when you're trying to shoot someone at a distance yet both the PS4 and XB1 version got the same score.

He and Russ Frushtick think that resolution difference is pretty much imperceptible.

Funny that it took me about 10 seconds to notice the difference when I played both versions on my tv.

It is not much of a surprise that American gaming press has more of MS lean. They probably have a lot of friends in the industry that work at studios, studios that spent the last 8 years leading on the 360. Last gen went on for way too long. There are journalist that could have graduated High School, College, and have been in the industry for several years in the span of last gen, that's crazy.

However, they need to check that stuff at the door, because they are being looked at to be impartial. Announcing on Twitter you prefer the Xbone ecosystem, as a review editor, is not a good look. It implies he wants the Xbone version to be better, and therefore will attempt to marginalize the difference.

Absolutely. 360 domination in the NA most likely plays a big part in all of this. But as you say if one to be taken seriously as a journalist then they should at least try to be impartial. Gies is a disgrace as a 'journalist'. He is in a position of influence over review scores to boot lol

This is going to be an interesting generation.

There were Lara comparison pics in the old thread. Her changes are subjective.

And yeah there's different effects but there's also zero tesselation, AA is worse, and no 4k. That and we still have to see what kind of 60fps is it. Is it locked? It hits 60 most of the time?

If the 60fps is locked then you will be happy with either version. (Except one version can be found for $5 and the other $60)

At the end of the day, when comparing the 2 versions you have to ask yourself, did they put enough effects that they can charge 1200% extra?

I am completely surprised you are mentioning 4k even.. I can't even imagine the rig required to run it at 60 fps at 4k AND TressFX.

If anything a 400 dollar console is doing some pretty amazing stuff for well... Being a 400 dollar console.

I wonder how many will fall for this

I can count 10 or so games that I'd buy day one on next gen if released.

GIMME THAT 1080P/60FPS UNCHARTED PACK!

If Demons souls gets 1080 60fps with updated texture, or Dragon Dogma 1080 60fps with texture pack, I'm not kidding I will pay full price. RIGHT NOW.

Oh yeah no argument here, but it being 60fps doesn't automatically shoot it up to be the end all be all version, at least to me. :p

Ask yourself if they're going to continue to make AAA games you enjoy when you'll only pay $5.

You should be happy for those people that do think it's worth it, as they're subsidizing your CAG-A.

Are we sure the dude in the video didn't just make a mistake by saying 60fps...

More proof:

Shannon ‏@shancake
@Wario64 If definitely does. Played it yesterday and PR confirmed

Wario64 ‏@Wario64
@shancake_ What about Xbox One?

Shannon ‏@shancake_
@Wario64 Wasn’t on show and PR wouldn’t comment.. PS4 version looks and runs great!

Are people really going to try and argue an unlocked 30 is better than an unlocked 60 now??

Next they'll be arguing 720p upscaled is as good as native 1080p or some shit. Oh wait...

Were these first things not in relation this new version vs the last gen console versions?

There was also some shots in the other thread posted by MaLDo comparing PC shots (with tessellation on and off) VS some shots taken from the video.

No, it is proof, just because of the object we are looking at is some polygon breasts does not change that.
Lets seen the maldo shots. They should replicate the ps4 like you say

I'm actually REALLY surprised the PS4 version is running at 60fps. I know it's TECHNICALLY cross-gen, but the game looks really graphically good with a huge amount of improvements.

Closed box. PC types dismiss it all the time, but Timothy Lottes says it offers huge performance advantages.

Great point Untalkative, People really do dismiss the fact how "efficient" consoles are even with dated hardware on last gen consoles. One only needs to look at the 7 year old PS3 console running The Last Of Us to understand how truly efficient consoles can be if the "right" developers with good talent are harnessing the power.

This is why im so hyped to see what PS4 brings. I have a 7970 in my PC right now......i sometimes wonder what a 7800/7900 series PC GPU can really do if there was no heavy API in the way. Well PS4 will make my "wondering" become a reality soon enough. If anyone is doubting the power in PS4....wait until all this old cross-gen garbage is out of the way and developers start to truly tinker with PS4's innards...I expect to see some truly amazing graphically beautiful PS4 games in the next year or so.

Like the prophetic Sony PS4 Commercials forecast..."Greatness Awaits!", Folks!
