Outlast PS4 trophies are 4 Bronze, 2 Silver, and 2 Gold. No Platinum for you!

Again, the game has complexity, online co-op, leaderboards, different ships.

If someone could say exactly what Outlast has to it, it might be easier to talk about.

Outlast is an 8-12hour game, with fantastic visual and sound design. There is a story told through the collection of documents and recording events via a video camera. The game has both stealth and chase elements, and has a small cast of characters that you learn about throughout the experience. The platinum requirement seems completely arbitrary in this case, as the game is fairly involved. In any case I don't know why a stupid trophy (or lack thereof) would persuade someone to skip a game?

It's not very complex at all, The game is all atmosphere.

It's super super linear and if you get caught it just resets you to the beginning of the current objective.

Collect batteries, use night vision, push a couple of levers and get to the exit.

Thank you.

That sounds like it falls into "Small Scope Game" by Sony, so will would have the smaller Trophy set.

8 - 12 hours? That's a surprise, I thought it would be around 3 hours. And I don't give a damn about platinum trophies!

Your second paragraph is false, you can be killed or you could run away and hide. Your third paragraph makes it sound like it's a quick 1-2hour game, it's definitely not.

No Platinum?

Sony still keeping the indie dev down. Even MS has dropped it's previous restriction on XBLA game achievements.
It's been said but all games should be treated the same if on PSN. It's not like this is on PSmobile or something.

Terrible Sony. The devs must have been pretty insulted when Sony paid them to put this game on PS+

I'd be shocked if Sony had any input on what devs do for trophies. Consider that Contrast is nothing but 21 bronze trophies: does that sound like something Sony had input on?

Still seems odd to me for Sony to go through all this trouble of embracing indie devs yet still classifying the game as such. Pretty sure they themselves at some point said they wanted to get rid of that sort of thing. Restricting games from having a platinum definitely does that.

I've not been scared by a game in ages, not even Amnesia did it for me. This does look like it could give me the shits, but I was holding onto my PC version until I could get a Rift to really make me crap myself. Not sure if I should still wait or jump on the PS4 version.

I should clarify that it took my brother and I about 10 hours, but we like to explore every nook and cranny and get 100% completion, so mileage will vary. I had a look at this website called http://www.howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=13407
and it puts the length at a around the 5 hour mark for the 'main story', with 'complete' at 8 and a half hours. So it's not a short game, especially for a horror title.

Sony do not have input on what developers put in their games (besides a few no brainers), but there are rules regarding Large and Small scope games. There is also basic maths that you use to work out how many Trophies you can have in a game, and limits to how many of a certain Trophy type you can have (linked to the maths part). I would go into it further, but nobody seems to be listening anyway.

It says IN insane mode, so is there an insanity meter perhaps? It doesn't read like its related to game difficulty.

I'm guessing it is a difficulty level,

They added harder difficulties in the PC version in an update, which I think made enemies do more damage and gave you less flashlight batteries and such.

Feel free to go further!

I'll be streaming this day one so if any gaffers are too scared to play, PM me. I love horror games and I hope to actually jump with this one. Been waiting long to play this.

It's a fun game that falls apart in its final act. Doubt I'll give it another run even if it is free.

Somebody should post this gif- scariest gif ever...

Edit:

This game isn't really that long, I watch speed runners beat this game 100% glitchless catagorie in about 1 hr & 30 min or so. Carnage64 is the first person that comes to mind.

Yea but some people like me don't speedrun...we crawl through levels.
I get pleasure from soaking up the environments and checking out all the details.
Probably a 12hr game for me then, heh.

Umm...XBLA games don't award you with Platinums after 100%'ing a game. They have achievements, which are the equivalent of trophies. Outlast does have trophies aka achievements, just no Platinum.

Journey didn't have a Platinum, it didn't seem to stop that game from being great.

Outland didn't have a platinum trophy either, but that didn't hurt the experience for me back then. If anything, I played it more just to get the 100%. This will probably be the same.

This is good news for me. 8-12 hours is past my sweet spot for games, I like. 5 hour experiences. Shorter is better for me.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?

Woah, hey! I'm hanging on the edge of my seat here! Though, I will say I think Resogun copped a Platinum out. It's for fucking finally someone to tell us how trophies work. Now we can stop pestering developers about it. They probably couldn't tell us either =/

But, if you're going to stop, I think this is enough info.

I don't understand why a developer would chose to NOT put a platinum in their game. Unless it's some Sony mandated thing, but it seems to be pretty random which games get plats and which games do not.

I am the exact opisite on trophies now.

I have nearly 2000 of the things. Thats enough. It looks like I am a crazy person.

I actually stopped playing Guacamelee because it was giving me a trophy every time I took 2 steps.

So you missed out on a great game because it gave you trophies?

anyone going/has used their HMD for playing this?

I'm going to try with my HMZ and I hope the game has Head Tracking...but man, if even Datura scared the shit out of me, this might be too much...especially with the surround sound.

Is the no Platinum trophy Sony's doing?

Or is the Platinum trophy "suddenly" going to be included once the DLC is released?
