Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission in [1.5hrs, not rushing]

Not surprised. I prepared myself for this type of length a long time ago.

I'll buy it, play it, then begin the long wait for TPP. Hoping to see a lot of new info for that game at E3.

But for the same money you can get games that are also great and longer too?

I don't see why people keep bring up this poor argument.

Konami themselves are boasting Lords of Shadow 2's 20+ hour length for almost the same price!

A Metal Gear fan would not think about getting another game over an MGS game. That is just stupid. If you really want the game then 20$ on your favourite video game series is not going to hurt you.

Those hypocrites are probably killing to get their hands on a 400$ console yet they aren't willing to pay 40$ on their favourite game series.

You need to play more stealth games then because MGS has never been better than a second tier stealth game. Speed runs are not how games should be experienced anyway, if people want to waste time doing that that's their problem.

Yeah, you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to the first three MGS'. You wait and scout the paths guards take, remember them, and then progress without killing anyone or causing a alert. Once you do that you figure out methods of making your path shorter or faster, and the AI in MGS2/MGS3 is designed to be manipulated in a vast amount of ways. Replay value, that's something MGS usually has in spades.

Maybe you should replay those games instead of continually shitting on them because you rushed through them a decade ago. "First tier stealth" isn't limited to Thief 1&2 and Chaos Theory.

will there be a standalone version of mgs5 for $60?

MGSV: Ground Zeroes is a standalone game so is MGSV: The Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes will not be bundled with TPP. KONAMI wants to make money, bundling it won't make them a profit.

MGSV: Ground Zeroes is 20$/30$/40$
MGSV: The Phantom Pain will be 60$

Not buying it with that sort of playtime. In my experience, journalists are notoriously crap at games, so it'll probably be shorter still. I'll await the inevitable ground zeroes/phantom pain bundle.

is this confirmed? going to wait till GOTY edition or they're both heavily discounted.

Not really sure why everyone is so upset by this. I was always under the impression that this was just a prequel and not the full on game yet. This thing is going to be cheaper than $60 right? I swear I heard $30. I don't think that is bad for ~4 hours of gameplay.

4 hours of gameplay, 54 hours of cutscenes

You think this is a bad thing? Remember the people who you are addressing. You know, Metal Gear fans. I doubt that there isn't s a small subset of that crazy fanbase that wouldn't prefer if the game were entirely cutscenes because "muh deep storylines and unexpected twists bananamachnes".

I wouldn't mind that actually

I would.

MGS 1-3 have pacing issues when it comes to cutscene abundance or interruption, but the gameplay and design make up for that fact. MGS4 feels sloppy, unedited, way too much plot explaining and not enough mystery or intrigue. I loved the narrative in the first three MGS', absolutely detest the narrative in MGS4.

That cinches it. I'm waiting for reviews and GAF impressions, then weighing it over in my own mind.

GAF people already have their impressions, they have predicted the length and the content of the game a long time ago. They have played the game and have been posting their impressions for quite some time.

Which was attached to a whole 5 hours of more gameplay time.
but people were saying it was the Tanker mission in length. It is obviously not.

yeah well, if it's as tight and enjoyable as the tanker i'll be happy
I replayed the Tanker mission tons of times, I see no reason why I wouldn't do the same for Ground Zeroes specially when the game offers a lot more than what the Tanker offered.

Getting this digitally on Xbox 360, so it'll cost me $20, there have been arcade games that last 1-2 hours with little replay value and cost $15. People seem to be forgetting that the digital pricing is $10 less than the physical pricing.

Xbox 360/PS3 digital: $19.99
Xbone/PS4 digital: $29.99

Buying a physical copy makes no sense.

depending on the size of the game i might go with this solution(internet cap sucks), but still its a huge rip-off. I wouldn't be surprised if konami forced kojima to do this.

won't buy it at any price if its included in the main game, too many good titles on my backlog for me to support this sort of thing to any degree, regardless of how much I love MGS

About what I expected, this is Tanker / Virtuous mission being sold as a stand alone game instead of a prelude to MGSV.

It stinks to be honest, although I'll probably still bite.

To Konami:

2017, fuck off

So 4 hours if we're lucky.... Though their quote reads like they completed the main mission and messed with the additional modes, all within 4 hours. I'm expecting the main mission to be like 2 hours on first playthrough...

well done that is the most blatantly ignorant fanboyish statement I've seen on gaf. and I am a metal gear fan but fans shouldn't ever just willingly accept something cos of a name on a box; that's being a sheep not a fan.

but I shouldnt be surprised that someone with a Kojima avatar is unwilling to accept any other points of view that don't fawn over anything named metal gear.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a 4 hour playtime.

A tight, polished and fun experience that naturally ends at 4 hours is infinitely preferable to a tight experience that would have been 4 hours long but it was padded to shit with collectathons, back tracking, boss gauntlets, grinding for exp, all the other shit people do just to be able to put a 20+ hour bulletpoint on the back of a box.
