Black Panther |OT| "In troubled times, wise men build bridges while fools build walls." [Unmarked Spoilers]

The intent of the Border Tribe was to look and live like peasants to outsiders, when they are actually Wakanda's standing army. The shields are for guns, which the film downplayed.

So is the Wakanda military melee combat focused in the comics? Use techno shields until they can strike with hand weapons and spears?

Looks like in MCU Wakanda, the only person with a gun in this shot is Bucky.

We'll see.

I feel bad for. Shitting on this film because now my friend from Nigeria wants to watch this movie with me sometime soon. I don't know what I should do? Do you know da wae to handle this kind of situation?

Saw this last night and although I really do understand the cultural importance of finally having a big blockbuster film that celebrates and represents African culture, I unfortunately found it to be another mediocre Marvel movie.

Cast were all mostly great, the costumes and sets were beautiful, the score was good and everything else was serviceable but from a personal perspective I'm just really tired of these Marvel movies now. I wish we had a film like this that wasn't tied to Disney/Marvel but I guess Marvel sells and the masses love it.

I started to like it better when I stopped looking at it as a super hero movie.

Quick question. Yesterday watched civil war for the first time and. Ian asking myself how much is he similar to the more asshole personality I thought about him in civil war. Does his personality change a lot?

T'Challa / BP ? Well his behaviour does change (towards the end of the movie). Hard to tell about his personality itself, since he doesn't get much to say in general.

Yeah it was a bit different at the end of the movie but as said most of the time he was a real dick IMO.

Also do you mean that he does not say much at all in Black Panther or did yo mean in Civil war?

Personality generally does not change. It is in essence who you are.

In BP, T'Challa changes the way in which he views the word--his ideological underpinnings.

You see his personality through how he interacts with his mother, his sister, and Okoye.

I definitely didn't dislike the movie enough to not give it another chance. I did enjoy aspects of the film and can't really think of anything particularly bad to say about it other than that it was another predictable but competently made Marvel movie.

I will probably watch it again at some point when it's available for home viewing but I think I just have a bit of Marvel fatigue at the moment. I'm hoping Infinity War gives me some big shocks and isn't as safe in the storytelling department as Black Panther was.

IW will be more of the same in terms of comics unless someone dies.

This is the best origin story I’ve seen in awhile. It did not remind me of a typical marvel movie. The hero isn’t some witty smart ass. I know more about wakanda than asguard or any other marvel world. The surrounding cast was excellent (female fighters in particular. I expected something like that in the sand snakes in game of thrones which did not deliver). Villain was good.

It’s definitely a superhero film with a typical story arc of a hero. But I thought the nuance in the presentation felt very different than other films and very good. This is kinda what I hope for in singular character movies as opposed to team ensemble movies. Cap 3 for example was almost as much as an avengers film as a captain America film, which makes it bleed into a familiar expected experience.

This is definitely a black panther film. One that can stand apart from other marvel movies and a world I’d be excited to return to

The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was the action scenes with panther himself. He was basically an AoE machine and didn’t have the opportunity to be as slick as he was in civil war (if memory serves). Most fights were him being invincible soaking up energy and blasting everyone away. Final hand to hand fight wasn’t too memorable and wasn’t as interesting as expected with the concept of their suits powers being affected by the vibranium

Just went and saw the movie, like straight up it's the 2nd best marvel movie ( the first iron Man being the best). The general was the best character in the movie she stole the show. Also indeed kilmonger or however you spell his name is the best mcu vilan.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who thinks so highly of the first Iron Man movie.

A friend of mine still hasn't seen the movie. They're making plans to see it next week. That would be the third time for me and the 4th time for another set of mutual friends.

Iron Man is the best Marvel movie, imo.

I really enjoyed it when I went to see it. I don't expect it'll turn out to be the major culture milestone it's been built up as, though some distance will be needed before anyone can make any real determination on that.

Killmonger is definitely the best villain they've had in any of these films (however charismatic Loki might be) there's a perspective he's arguing for that runs a little deeper than "I want to rule everything just because". The film rejects his position (lost on some people), but it lets you see how he got there and how it could make sense to him.

Although for me I can never pay to watch the same movie twice I can understand why the movie is just that good, also yeah I hold the first iron Man on high regard it started something major.

Most movies that have so much hype behind it usually tend to not live up to it, I am glad this movie is not one of them. Also kilmonger theme is straight fire.

Wunray Wunray I've never paid to see a move more than once before BP.
Well, if I were to be honest my dad carried me, when I was younger, to go and see the matrix reloaded twice. (It's not as bad as people say). I totally understand why someone would want to go and see it again, it really is a good movie, I just think it would be a waste of money.

That's where I am too, I can't fathom paying to see a movie twice much less 4 times

Seems like a lot of folks want to disagree now that BP is so high in BO earnings.

Finally saw this movie tonight. I definitely liked it, but it didn't live up the hype for me. I guess after hearing about it for months, my expectations may have been a bit too high. Still a darn good movie, though. I liked it more than Infinity War or the latest Thor, and I liked those movie too.

I don't think it tops Civil War, though. That might be my favorite MCU movie to date.

I didnt catch this in the theaters either but finally saw it. I had lowered expectations going in after reading reviews about bad CGI and the uneven pacing so I knew what to expect. While watching it also didn't feel like a traditional Marvel movie since there was very little connection in it to the rest of the MCU. So my impression was that although the bad CGI and uneven pacing (it started slow and seemed to rush everything to completion in the last 30 mins) did hurt it, it doesn't take away from the interesting and engaging story choices they writers made, especially for Killmonger, making him of the most interesting and complex MCU villains. When ranked with other MCU movies I probably wouldn't rank if very high due to the lack of action mostly, but maybe it's not fair to rank it among other "traditional" MCU movies, since it's very different and focuses more on world building and more thought provoking themes than just "good vs evil".

Oh and Okoye the spear lady was my favorite character. She was so cool.and badass she overshadowed the main hero.
