1 vs 100 Season 2 | Official Thread of Using Google to Search for the Official Thread

Do they use the same criteria to pick the One and the Mob? I was in a game on Tuesday and a guy in my group got into the top 100, but wasn't in the Mob next round even though the One was the top-rated player. I suppose he could also have been a previous Mob member, but seems a bit of a coincidence.
I've been in the top 100 several times and have yet to be in the Mob at all.

That's a fair point.

When I did finish in the top 100 and get into the mob though, The One was the guy that finished the previous round as number one.

Grr at broken questions in the Extended Play:

"How many actors have played Batman in movies?"

X: 6
A: 4
B: 5

I said 5, answer was given as 4.

By my count:

Adam West
Michael Keaton
Val Kilmer
George Clooney
Christian Bale

Another broken question report from last night's 12am general trivia:

"Which of these is NOT a major league second baseman?"

X - Chase Utley
A - Albert Pujols
B - Carlos Delgado

Both Pujols and Delgado are not second basemen. The answer they took was Pujols. Delgado has never played a MLB game at 2B.

Man, that's a great idea, but I'm one controller short :(

I did get the Quick Draw achievement in the community submitted trivia the other night. If anyone wants to group up tonight my gamertag is Garryk03.

Got chosen for the mob. First question:

What is the action of swishing a liquid in your mouth in order to clean it?

X: GaggleANSWER

SHIT.

So there goes my participation in the mob this season. One fell swoop. Thanks for playing!

I noticed that when I was playing. I ultimately chose Pujols because fuck, he can't move like a second baseman should. Delgado would at least have a chance. :lol

Played the live episode tonight (Canada). One question was hilarious. Which of the following celestial body have the most influence on tides?

A) Uranus B) Moon C) Megan Fox

You're not limited to The Mob for once a season. The Mob is once an episode. The One is once a season.

I dunno...

Official Rules said:
Selection of “The Mob”

.

After selection of The One as described above, and subject to the participation limits described below, before each Round, we will select the top one hundred (100) players in the game lobby to compete as a member of 'The Mob' based on the same pre-determined score criteria and tie-breaker criteria used to determine The One, as described above. However, to qualify for the The Mob, players must also meet this additional criteria; the must not have answered incorrectly as the Mob in any previous Round and they must not have already won any prize this season as the Mob.

Players may compete as a member of "The Mob" until such time as they answer a question incorrectly or win a prize. In the unlikely event that all players in the game lobby prior to a given Round have already won a prize or answered incorrectly we may relax the foregoing gameplay limitation and allow them to compete in The Mob for prizes.

Any previous round sounds like it is factoring the entire season.

Just checked the official forums: yep. Once per season, unless everyone you are playing along with has has not played in the mob.

Dang.

my girlfriend has been playing this a lot, i need help with a technical question, see if any of you can help us out here. today, i've encountered the problem where i can't load the game from the primetime channel, it just says loading when i select the game for the timeslot i'm going to play in. i let it set there for fifteen minutes, can't actually join the game. i deleted the files associated with the game and cleared the cache like the xbox support (website and rep) tells me to do and i still can't play it! thing is, i can play whenever my friends invite me into the game, so there is something wrong with the marketplace. :lol anyone have any ideas?

You need to clear your cache, delete all 1vs100 content on your HDD and (this is the most important) -- delete all of your Reminders that you have set.

Then restart your 360.

Interesting, and conflicts with the phrasing of the official rules:

Limit one (1) opportunity to compete as “The One” during Season 2 per person and Xbox LIVE gamertag. In the unlikely event that all players in the game lobby prior to a given Round have already competed as “The One”, we may relax the foregoing gameplay limitation, and the player with the top score criteria will compete as The One.

However, to qualify for the The Mob, players must also meet this additional criteria; the must not have answered incorrectly as the Mob in any previous Round and they must not have already won any prize this season as the Mob.

The difference in phrasing is what threw me, the Mob criteria should be spoken of in terms of seasons, not rounds.

Anyone who went out on the Batman question I mentioned earlier should be kicking up quite a stink right around now, then.

I don't think it's *all* that unlikely that you'll get a repeat chance in the UK, at least, thinking about it. I think we have about nine rounds per two-hour quiz session. That works out at 900 players a session who get a chance to be in the mob. By my count, there's 25 sessions this season, so 22500ish mob members.

On Friday, there were 13000 players in the crowd.

Admittedly, of course, there's going to be some turnover of players - I'm pretty sure the first sessions had more like 25000 players in them - but I also expect it to die down a bit further, particularly around mid-to-late January. I think there's a pretty good chance.

Fuck this game is fun. I got only 1 question wrong in the VGA Gaming one tonight. It was a lot of fun. Tomorrow I'm looking forward to movie quotes and music lyrics. Great categories.

Bad Question Rant #3423:

On yesterday's VG quiz, there were two questions which were each alright on their own, but taken together were really bad.

First was:

What game includes crime boss Salvatore Leone?

Answers:
X: Grand Theft Auto
(Me: Ah, yes. I remember him in GTA3 *press*)
A: Grand Theft Auto III
(Me: Shit.)
B: Grand Theft Auto IV

That's pretty much fine as it is; I answered the game series, then got caught out when it wanted the specific title within the series. It's a bit misleading, and I do think it's poor question design, but it's not explicitly unfair.

However, a bit later we had:

Which of these games does *NOT* use a plastic drum add-on?

Answers:
X: Guitar Hero
(Me: Ah, yes. It didn't, it was the later games that did so. *press*)
A: Band Hero
(Me: OFFS)
B: Rock Band

This question is sort-of okay if you accept it as talking about game series, but in the light of the earlier question, I was expecting it to be talking about specific games within a series, in which case it's explicitly wrong.

There was another objectionable question, which I think is either wrong or misleading, but I'm not sure my knowledge is complete enough to be certain:

What is Japan's second most successful RPG series?

X: Dragon Quest
A: Final Fantasy
B: Star Ocean

The answer was given as Dragon Quest.

Now, as far as I'm aware, *in Japan*, DQ is the most successful RPG series, FF brings up the rear; I answered FF. So the other part I'm not sure about is whether I was right that the question implies success in Japan itself; does the "Japan's" mean it's the most successful *from* Japan or the most successful *in* Japan?

Or am I just wrong, and FF is actually more successful? (I've no idea what metric they were using to judge it)

There's no excuse for that. If it means "game series," then the question needs to say "game series."

This question was rubbish. I answered Final Fantasy because, well, it is the second most successful game-for-game. But then Final Fantasy has 12/13 games compared to Dragon Quest's 9, so maybe in total Final Fantasy has sold more. But that's just in Japan, what if it means worldwide sales which of course means Final Fantasy wins in any area. It wasn't nearly clear enough.

If you ever get in the mob or are the 1, just forget about the speed bonus. You are playing for prizes now, not points.

Did anyone play in the Live game last night?

I left after the 12th one got knocked out, was curious if any 1s took home the prize?

This depends; each DQ installment is more successful, but the total unit sales of FF are probably larger because of the sheer number of SKUs. Of course, are they including spin-offs and remakes or not?

It's a stupid question anyway.

I only got to play 30 minutes of last Friday's live show and I haven't bitched yet.

I think the "score only" mob system is starting to rear its ugly head. The mob was downright dumb. In the four or five games I played, 50% of the mob would be gone by the fourth question. Shit, there was that one round where only 2 got the question right (that New Zealand beer one). Having high scores throughout the month does not necessarily mean you're smart. It just means you have enough free time to sit around for every single EP.

I also had some dumbass come into my group and he just sat there and didn't answer a single question in three rounds.

Side bitch: The bonus points you get for wrong mob answers is starting to piss me off too. There was some IDIOT in my group early in the night. He seriously got 3 of the first 4 questions wrong and he wasn't going for that instant achievement. I was the leader by 1000s of points but because he guessed some right answer 50% of the mob lost on, he ended up decimating me. I try to not be a sore loser, but it still irks me on some kind of moral issue.

13th claimed the money early. 3000 points, I think.

Edit - I laughed my ass off at the guy who got to be the one, then chose a help for the first three questions. WTF? Did the guy playing go to the bathroom and someone without a clue tried to keep the game alive?

I originally kind of understood his point, but yeah I'm on the fence now. No matter what, GH didn't have drums whether you're talking about the actual game or the first half the series.

He's trying to say in his two examples

GTA != GTA 4
Guitar Hero = Guitar Hero

After thinking about it more, I'm on 1v100's side on this one.

This score only criteria is going to be comedy gold, soon. As more and more people aren't allowed to play in the mob because they've got an answer wrong already or won a prize, the game will have to look lower and lower for the Mob. It'll soon be the worst 100 players in a round that get in.

If you don't give an answer as The One, the game automatically uses a help. So they just weren't there.

Skiptastic said:

The middle one should be "DJ Hero," and not Band Hero, with DJ Hero the correct answer. Just if you saw Guitar Hero first, which didn't really have drums, you'd have justifiably pressed X.

Both of these situations just make you think before you enter in an answer. In the first situation, the game punishes you for entering too quickly, thinking that the series is the game. In the second situation, it makes you think, "Hmmm, Guitar Hero did eventually get plastic drums...but after seeing the other two, which DEFINITELY had drums, it is the right answer."

That's not the game being cheap, it's called good trivia technique. It's like in those Brain Game trivia questions where if you buzz in too quick, the other team gets to hear the WHOLE question, which can give them an edge.

toythatkills said:

Oh, well, okay, then it is the same situation. But again, that's still just good trivia technique. It makes you think twice about entering something quick, which can diminish your overall points, but keeps your streak alive. If they make the game too easy, there's no challenge.

Fortune favors the bold, but look before you leap.

toythatkills said:

How bad would that suck if you finally become the One but you weren't sitting there to play? And how much of a cop out is it that someone who isn't active gets to be the One? >:(

If you saw "Guitar Hero" when the question was "which game doesn't use drums?" I don't think there's any way to justify it being wrong. Guitar Hero doesn't use drums, fact.

There was no reason to suspect that it'd end your streak at the time, until DJ Hero appeared after you'd committed. The game is absolutely at fault here. There's no defence.

So you're being punished for jumping to conclusions, and you'll learn in the future to think twice before jumping in. That is how a trivia game is set up. You're rewarded for the quick answer 90% of the time, but that 10% of the time is enough to make you take pause. Balance risk and reward.

I did the same thing last night with the "aloha" question, because I only thought it meant "hello" and "goodbye". The second answer made it abundantly obvious, but I jumped in on the first one. I learned my lesson and was a better person for it.

Skiptastic said:

What conclusion would I be punished for jumping to? The conclusion that Guitar Hero is the correct answer because it answers the question correctly?

Guitar Hero is an *entirely correct* answer to the question. I should not have to wait for the other answers to conclude that one of them is 'more correct'.

That is how a trivia game is set up. You're rewarded for the quick answer 90% of the time, but that 10% of the time is enough to make you take pause. Balance risk and reward.

But there was no reason to believe there was any risk.

Another shocking question tonight, I feel really sorry for The One that got knocked out with this.

Which England cricketer returned from injury?
-Kevin Pietersen
-Freddie Flintoff
-Graham Gooch

What the fuck? The question would have been exactly as answerable if it was shortened to "which?"

toythatkills said:

It said 'recently', the answer was Pietersen.

Flintoff is still out injured, so it was wrong, anyway.

One question that was slightly dubious, though:

"Which British chocolate manufacturer is rumoured to be taken over by food giant Kraft?" (or words to that effect).

The answers were:

Cadbury
Fry's
Terry's.

Terry's is Kraft, anyway. However, Fry's is actually owned by Cadbury, and while the company doesn't theoretically exist any more, the name is still used by Cadbury. So technically both X and A were correct, because if they took over Cadbury, they would also take over Fry's, and if they took over Fry's, they would be taking over a part of Cadbury.

The game blew up after the Apple's first PDA question. I since can't get back in. I keep getting error messages...

It's been fubared tonight. I got in again as it picked some dude named Virtuous Cat or something for the one and then got disconnected.

how do you sign a guest in, meaning 2 players on 1 xbox live gold account? I googled it and it said to sign in as guest when in the game lobby, but I don't have that option when I hit the dashboard button on controller 2. I see it says Press Start to Play in both the lobby and in-game, but nothing I press on controller 2 enters the game. I tried signing in on controller 2 as a non-gold profile, but that didn't work either.

I've seen other players with like "gamertag (1)" so other people are doing it somehow.

When you've got two controllers connected and only one is signed in, there should be a second bar at the top where the second player would be that says "press [back] to sign in," when you press that, at the bottom of the list is "Guest." Then you got yourself a clone!

If you're in a party of four I guess you wouldn't see it, but I assume back still works.
