Any guys from 1up reading this thread? Got a question- can we expect video footage from this trip or were cameras not allowed? To be honest, the tidbits about this trip almost sound more interesting to me than the new game information. :lol

(And if Shane is, indeed, keeping an eye on this thread- I'd like to hear him talk about the experience if he could on 1up Yours.)
 
this is the best preview yet imo, you can tell Shane like it a lot and you can see how he balance between facts, gameplay mechanic and his opinion about the game to make you hyped. and he's such a fanboy that he know even tiny bit of spoiler can ruin the experience, so he'll choose his words carefully
 
Oh man, I'm now more excited for MGS4 than GTA4. I know some may think I'm being a tool because MGS4 is the one that's not multiplat but for me with GTA I'll go wild, do crazy mindless stuff, but with MGS4 I'm going to really sink my teeth in and get cavities. Ok it's also because of the fact that MGS4 will have strong ties to past MGS games, as GTA can is all new and no ties at all. I need to warp to MGS4's launch darnit.

I like the sound of the flash back game for points, and MKII action. Also the multiple paths, I'm going to get so lost in all of this. That's it, MGS3 time.

Edit: Why did I pick GTA4 and not GT5, or Resistance2? Because GTAs were the most played games on ps2 for me, FF, GT, and MGS2/3 being runner ups. There's always time for mayhem in GTA.
 
Judging by the videos I've seen Snake still runs like a robot. You think Kojima could be some effort into the animations. Everyone looks so stiff.

Tomorrow I'm going to pre-order this game at my local GameStop. Is it the DVD's that carry the beta code? Also, do you have to pay in full in order to receive the beta or DVD?

Some people will love it, some people will hate it. It's already been pretty divisive from its first unveiling, afterall it's a monkey in a diaper, in the middle of a war zone.
 
Best preview by far. I trust Shane more than most cause he seems to love the MGS games as much as I do, so its like reading a preview from my point of view. I am so glad that people already beat the game, I am always worried that what allow to be previewed doesn't turn out to be as good as the whole game. It seems like everyone that played the whole game loves it, not that I had many doubts but i know the game will be everything I hoped for.

I think I am done with info on this game, thats all I wanted to read, hopefully not much else is shown.

I've known it was coming for years but knowing people have been brought in to play it start to finish just makes it really hit home. MGS4 is real. Very awesome.

I just hope I can avoid any further info, the Eastern European scene at the end of the April Fool's thing was lame, I wanted to keep the areas that hadn't been shown totally new.

It's not that hard. The screens in this thread are the first new ones I've seen in about eight months. I quit looking at trailers, screens, and stuff from Famitsu when it started getting too spoilery.

I don't think he'll be divisive at all, I really can't see any epic discussions about the quality of a shaven monkey made to look like an alien who wears stupid shorts and drinks popular soft drinks, everyone is going to hate him (Jar Jar Binks).

I assumed/hoped Shane was referring more to his role in the game than his character design. I always thought it was stupid that the main point of contention with Raiden was his "girly man" character design. For fans who constantly espouse that their series is one of amazing depth, MGS followers (at least, those that I'm referring to in my previous sentence) sure seem to have pretty shallow concerns.

Raiden was controversial for a lot more reasons then that, his unbelievable arrogance and disrespect and almost malice he displays to Snake before the end. People didn't want to play as him for a lot of reasons.

However, the monkey on the other hand, is a monkey. It won't be talking, it won't be saving the day, at most it'll be killed as some device for Drebin to act on. A monkey isn't going to be an in depth character. It also personifies everything the MGS haters dislike about the series, it's like they've bottled up all the Kojima crazy and popped into a stupid monkey because the monkey isn't going to be important to the series like Raiden was.

Raiden being hated was a negative for Kojima, he wanted him to be liked, so what's better, make another character you care about and leave them open to attack from the public, or put all the stupidity into a character that you don't care about.

If the monkey mutters a single line of dialogue in this game I'll never touch the series again.

There's really great minor details in these screens. Those types of things really help a game stand out and give it character.

That's simplifying why he isn't liked though. He wasn't liked because he took Snake's place as the main character. That's a major part of it. Of course you could bring up Big Boss, but he looks exactly like Snake and is also very similar to him in personality so even though he's technically a different character he isn't a big change from Snake. Another reason Raiden was disliked is because people hated Rose. If you took her out of the game I think the hate would drop quite a bit. Of course his look does play a role in it, but I really don't think that's the main reason why people disliked him.

I can't remember exact lines of dialogue, things like him moaning to Rose because she talks as if she fancies him. There is a fair amount in there. But it is before he finds out it's really Snake.
