1UP MGS4 Hands on preview (he splurged)

Pretty much. Now I just have to decide whether or not to buy a PS3 separate and then get MGS4 or to get the bundle. Someone council me. I want to get the controller with the rumble too, what's the name of it?

I'm having this same debate, only it's because I want the SE. I don't suppose I could get the bundle come launch day and open it up immediately, trade in the sealed regular edition, and pay the difference to get the special edition?

I Tried to read Shane's impressions...but 2 lines in and I was "Hell no. This is too much info".

Then I looked the AWESOME pic in the OP and again: "NO! It's too much!"

It's official guys. Blackout confirmed for me. I'm even thinking on skipping the Kojima Productions Report.

I don't think the report has any spoilers...

The ps3 that comes with the mgs4 combo is a regular 80gig ps3, no special art or anything (unless you live in Japan). So get a 80 gig now and preorder the LE of mgs4

Yeah I don't think Ryan would let anything huge slip out on the report. He was even a little bummed out about some of the footage included in the most recent trailers. If anything you'll get a few tid bits every now and then

That's really friggin expensive though. Like, $135 extra expensive, if we count the cost of the Dualshock I'll have to get as well. :/

yeah, with that money i could buy a car lol

Nice!

Also, Kojima has implemented an auto-aim system that you can toggle on the fly with a tap of the Square button. Although some of our fellow game critics complained that it was a bit of a crutch, there were moments during the Middle East level in which it helps to switch between the manual over-the-shoulder

This game has everything!

i was under the impression that you had the freedom to either choose the militiamen's side, the pmc's side or just remain completely neutral. none of the previews i've read mention that you have the freedom to choose the pmc's side, for instance; they all seem to go with the militiamen.

correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't that freedom supposed to be play an important role in the game?

You can only choose to ally yourself with the militia, the PMCs are always the enemy. You CAN piss off the militia, though, and they will become your enemy as well.

Personally, I doubt it has any sort of serious impact on the storyline/outcome of the missions.

That was never supposed to happen according to Ryan. The PMC's are the bad guys so it really wouldn't make sense for Snake to team up with them.

well, you never know.

I mean remember all those ghosts of the guys you killed in MGS3? How they haunted you? I killed EVERY one, so I was there for like hours :P

Yeah it doesnt make sense, but in early interviews with Kojima he was talking about country A and country B where fighting each other on a battlefield and it was upto Snake to decide for who to fight. But I suppose the way this game turned out, it doesnt make sense for Snake fighting with the PMCs.

But then again who knows what will happen further up in the game, I think Kojima has got some big suprises in store for us.

It's got to be the thickest, baby, the thickest.

Anything less for MGS4 would be uncivilized.
:lol:lol :lol :lol :lol
Thick is also a sign of very healthy seeds

This. THIS.

There's a reason why we've been shown the same environment over and over and over and over...

I think a main theme you're expecting is not going to appear in this game. If you listen to the past songs they're pretty damn energetic. That doesn't fit the mood of MGS4 at all. Snake is about to die and has one last mission. Not exactly something fitting an uplifting score.
The section of the main theme I'm talking about is the most sombre part of the song. I do not see how it's energetic at all, go listen to debriefing

Sigh, I really wanna play MGS4 but the current PS3 model is too huge for my liking :(

It's about the same size as the 360. Add about an inch to each dimension. I have a PS3 standing vertically right next to my 360. The PS3 is MUCH heavier, however. Maybe it's that giant fan that's the size of a Wii inside?

I think I've heard somewhere that just like there's going to be multiple pmc, theres also multiple faction of militiamen, and sometimes militiamen do fight with each other, that's where the freedom to pick your sides come from.

not sure about this though, might be just one of the dream I have playing mgs4

The wait for MGS4 Game of the Forever is just killing me.

Now to decide if I need to use a vacation day to take off work on the release.

Well I think if you include the power pack for the 360 they actually weigh about the same.

I can understand wanting the PS3slim, but it'll be major wait.

The thought of several chapters worth of locations we haven't even seen yet is just fucking amazing. If only I had some spare cash lieing around. :(

I can't shake the feeling that we're looking at a Best Game of All Time contender. Next gen starts when Hideo says so.
No joke, I have no doubt Kojima is trying to create one of the best games of all time. Trying to make it perfect in every way, not rushed at all. Even having these reviewers come in months ahead of time just so they can hear criticisms and make final adjustments

That Gamespy write-up was really boring, so diluted. We need more like Shane's. How come previews are going up so slowly?

Some who played are likely going to have their previews be for the magazines they work for. But we still don't know who were invited. I mean so far sites like Gamespot or Eurogamer haven't posted anything about it.

Well I expected Eurogamer to have something. But I suppose it's being used for Edge. I'd have expected GI to post up a preview on their website either way. It sounds like they only wanted credible editors, so Gamespot probably didn't make the cut. Even if they had any personnel left to spare :lol

Famitsu was probably there too, and there was an Aussie source. Though I have no guesses as to which. And probably PSM/OPM too

Question for those who have Portable Ops: Do some of the scenes and codecs only use subtitles and no audio? I'm not getting a psp just for this game and am watching it on Youtube. Either this guy somehow has the audio off on certain scenes, or is that just how it is? For example, in the beginning,
when Snake contacts Paramedic
there all I'm seeing is text, but when he
talks to Roy Campbell and in the other cartoon scenes , there is dialogue

going by the preview, gamespy didnt get to play the full game
He probably did, problem was he wrote it like a typical neutral, emotionless preview that gave no feeling for the game. Even though Ryan Payton suggested for them not to write that sort of way :\

Yobo, do you know the answer to my question above regarding portable ops? It seems ridiculous, but the videos I'm watching have no voice in the codec scenes, but do during the animated ones.

what I'm talking about is at 1:52 of this video

Haven't played Portable Ops, unfortunately

I can't imagine an MGS not having everything voice-acted though, so I don't think so
