1UP SHOW - Street Fighter IV am here?

Hahaha, I'm glad they changed those names...

(for those who cannot read Japanese, Chun Li is listed as "China woman", Zangief's name is listed as "Walker Gopalski" and Dhalsim is listed as "India"...)

Walker Gopalsky > Zangief

So, when you make an african american character in a fighting game, you make his placeholder name "Blacky"?

watched the show today and i think the game looks pretty fucking awesome

i agree. The video actually got me pretty pumped, and the revenge/saving system sounds badass.

Okay, apparently I mistranslated Zangief's name. It's not Walker Gopalski. It's Vodka Gopalski. :lol

They need to define the fireballs. They look stupid as a huge floating fog across the screen.

very true. But there have been many cases where Capcom have used very undefined fireballs, so I doubt this is just a placeholder.

This is awesome, I know many people who called her China in the SFII prime days. :lol

You're Indian, right? How the hell is "Blacky" the equivalent of "China woman" or "India"? If some derogatory name for Indians were used your comment would make sense. Maybe you should put better thought in your comparisons, just for future reference.

It was probably a bad comparison, for sure, but the point was exaggeration. Calling the dude Afro or Superfly (as an african american character was named in Daikatana) wouldn't be derogatory, but certainly pretty hilarious stereotypical names.

I mean, come on. They called Zangief Vodka. :lol

I'm not hating on SF. I love it. I just thought the placeholder names were really really hilarious.

Stereotypical, yeah, but not derogatory. The whole basis of the game is a bunch of stereotypes duking it out (like Bloodsport or The Condemned... do not watch the latter), so it showing through in placeholder names isn't really surprising.

I'm glad they changed Zangief's name though. Vodka seems like it would be a character name in one of the hundreds of lame SF knock-offs that were released around that time.

When I first saw the screenshots I thought the game looked terrible, but after seeing it in motion I think it looks way better. The faces look strange, but when its all moving I didn't really notice (except that jaw dropper o_O).

p.s. kathleen is going to some lame website that hasn't launched yet, i think her friend is making it or something..

wow I can't belive the hate going on here, I finnaly got around to watching it today and I can't be more hyped for this game, aside from the really bad gamevideos quality it looked amazing. As long as its online with lobby's and tournaments I am in day one.

I've been playing games since the NES era, but I never got into fighting games at all. For some reason, though, I want this game bad, and I want to get good at it.

Please, does anyone have a link for just regular non-HD, but better than the crap on youtube gameplay footage? I don't have an HD screen, and all the HD footages skips.

The graphics are a mixed bag for me. I like the way they are done....except for the characters. Too over done with their muscles.

Looks a lot better in motion than it does in shots for sure. Seems like the gameplay is kept in tact even with the 3d models. I'm excited to see more, it already looks better than expected.

I wish they would have gone a bit darker (like in the trailer).
the colours makes it a bit more kiddy game looking

wish they go a little mature in the rest of the developement

still downloading...anyway, silly question: this is a Wii exclusive?
:lol I supouse this is a joke. The game is in a really early stage of development, but now is 720p/60fps, with a 1080p option and will feature heavy on-line component, and a six button control.

So Wii can't handle this features (and a lot others like the animation of the muscles). If they want, they'll release a very toned down Wii version. If they do it, I supouse they'll release also a PS2/PSP version, to get an easy port in Wii.

Platforms are not confirmed yet, but in the AOU site they included a profile of an arcade version of SFIV featuring a card system, and they announced SFIV will be in the next AOU show.

Also, in the French game magazine Consoles plus said they played SFIV in a PS3, in the Capcom Europe headquarters.

i have a serious question.

judging from the movie/screens. the game is on either PS3 or 360

why capcom is hiding the platform the game will land on ? did they make an exclusive deal with MS or Sony to release this as an exclusive game and waiting for E3 for example to annouce the platform ? or did they annouce the platform some time ago and i missed it?

Ahh...haven't been keeping up with this so that's all new news, to me. (it wasn't intended as a joke, btw)

Thanks for the quick answer.

I hope this 2% comment is truthful because there is alot of people banking on a ton of improvement. I think more likely this is close to what it will be in the final stages.

Ya know, they are trying to get this on every system they can.

Hell, maybe you'll get your sprite based SF4 on the DS. :lol

I'd like to think they'll make it for PS3/360, then for Wii and port down from there.

This is why I could not get into the characters of SF3. I really enjoyed the stereotypical characters of SF2. Hopefully, the new characters of SF4 are just as stereotypical and lovable. SF3 really produced no classics of the level of SF2 IMO.

I'm buying this day one on the 360.
