It's the World Cup, smaller teams in the quarter finals isn't really unheard of. Paraguay in 2010, Ukraine in 2006, South Korea + Senegal + Turkey in 2002.

it's a shame that 4 of the 5 best south american teams are in the same quarter. would have been more interesting to see them play the major european sides in the knock-out rounds.

Hm, ya, I can see that as a penalty. Personally, I wouldn't call it, and I've seen far more egregious things go uncalled. However, that's where the little personality quirks of the refs come in. Can't be mad that it was called.

Eh he quite clearly hits his leg as he's about to shoot. I didn't watch it live and have no idea if the defender moved his leg towards Samaras or if it's the other way around, that Vine doesn't show it properly, but it's easy to see the contact.
Didn't mean it like that, huge respect for Costa Rica, and also for Greece. It's just the paring that sucks...as there is little interest in the game outside of the two countries playing.

They definitely touch, look at the leg when it's in the air. You can question if it's a foul, though.
The lesser teams will have to eliminate one another before they can play against the big boys : Greece and Belgium.
