Top 20 athletes compete for all around and she finished 3rd in prelims. Problem is, only 2 per country allowed, and the 2 above her were both USA. They don't want to make a podium sweep possible
Too bad, I say. They were the three best athletes. This isn't Little League baseball.

the best in the world win the events, but limiting the each nation to two competitors makes space to have as many different countries as possible competing, which is what the Rings signify - all of the world together.
I don't care how boring some may perceive it as, it isn't fair to the competitors.
And she will if she has the performance she had today.
USA seriously made the other gymnastics teams look like amateurs today. Difficulty and level of execution was incredible.

Nah. Gabby is the defending all around champ from 2012, but Simone Biles is being hyped as the best of all time. Though, looks like if Biles wasn't there, the next 3 would be capable of winning gold in all around. It's an amazing team.
Same thing last time. I think she's just more of an introvert.

I don't find anything boring about watching the best in the world put on a show.
It's a complete load of horseshit used to create bogus drama that the knockout is done at the Olympics rather than at the Trials like other sports do it.
I agree, but I still think it's an important rule to have. The Olympics was intended to be an event made to bring people of all nations together, not to become yet another dick-measuring contest.

That's exactly it. And the interviewer had no mercy asking her about how it felt to realize she wouldn't be competing in all arounds. Gabby seemed to get lost in her thoughts trying not to cry.

I don't necessarily have a huge problem with the limit existing. I get the need for diversity, as much as I'd rather watch the best athletes.
I definitely have a problem with the implementation though. If you're going to knock someone out of competing, do it at the Trials and be done with it. Sports drama is great entertainment. Bogus drama that could have been solved months ago, is not.
Can't believe I forgot this: Canada destroyed the US Men's Volleyball team. Swept them 3 to 0 sets!
What is crazy is that Hernandez is potentially the second best all around on the US team, and she was not even given the opportunity to compete for it due to the coaches decision, because of the limited spaces. The top 4 probably would have all been Americans.

I'll just say this as well, limits are fine, but I like the idea of "three per" limits like what T&F have so as to allow for sweeps.

She did get knocked out at the trials or should have. She apparently had scores lower than even the alternates. She went to Rio purely because of marketing. She knows the rules and Biles queen automatically takes up one spot then she compete with Aly and Aly was better than her simple as is. At that point I don't give a fuck about her past history she didn't finish second from her teammates

I doubt participants are bothered by it, I'm sure they rather get their shot at it than to get no chance at all.

Um. What? You can't be serious. Showing that you are the third best in the world at something and then being passed up by 5 other inferior athletes for a chance to prove it wouldn't bother you?
