Oh yay :/ Another big football tournament where penalties are absolutely decisive. Once in a while is ok for the tension but it has become a problem. Penalties are not a suitable way of deciding a winner.

THey should promote the coach and put him in charge of the national team

Tite is a good coach. They should get some of these young players to the main squad.

Jesus wept.

The fact that Brazil are this happy over winning the friggin' Olympic Gold medal at football shows how far Brazilian football has fallen.

Cry moar.

Seriously, we are celebrating a gold medal at home which was also the only title we didnt have.

... can't you just be happy for Brazil?

Why do I feel like we in Germany will probably me happier for Brazil than some of you.

Because people are dicks.

Olympic soccer legitimacy deniers are just the worst. They claim the world's not interested in the tournament, yet care enough to post about it on message boards.

Good for Brazil. I had heard much about the Brazilian peoples negative attitude towards hosting the Olympics, so I hope this win will give that cloud a silver lining.

Most of us are happy that Brazil's happy about this title, but listen, they fielded the best team they could because they cared about this medal more than any other country.

4 of the 5 best Under 23 players aren't even in this German squad, there's no larger narrative here. besides "Brazil won a gold medal. They're really happy about it, and we should be happy for them."

Exactly.

The fact that people would be making a big fucking deal and mocking Brazil if Germany won again shows how biased you guys are.

It's an important title, let people be as fucking happy as they feel like. Germany wasn't there to lose either, show some respect.

I would honestly argue it's not that much of a deal. I'd be surprised if the average football fan could name who won gold at London 2012, the majority of football teams refuse to let their players be available for it considering when it takes place, and the majority of footballing nations are not interested in fielding a decent team... save Nigeria. It's a glorified U21 cup.

I'm happy for Brazil if they want to enjoy it, they won something.

I'm guess there's a disconnect here. People in South America must care more about Olympic football whereas no-one in Europe gives a toss. If that's the case, I stand corrected.

To be honest, there's sod all else to do on a sunday evening.

When does the w̶o̶o̶d̶e̶n̶ ̶s̶p̶o̶o̶n̶, sorry gold medal get handed out?

Seriously well done Brazil and to the keeper and that's great relief for Neymar, it really shows.

The only other option I can think would be to have the team with most shots on target to win it lol. Maybe that would curb the notion of parking the bus...

Penalties will never go away though.

What's wrong with that ? They were playing at home. Of course they're going to put the best team they can.

The fact that Neymar was crying at the end just shows you what it means to him even though he's one of the 3 best players in the World and plays for Barcelona.

Nobody here is celebrating like it was a World Cup
But what the players should do? Just give some claps and say "good game"?

C'mon, we had a lot of athletes crying about a Bronze medal during this games
It was a freaking gold medal, on your home and the first one on football to Brazil
The player and the crowd will celebrate

If I understood it correctly, they are allowed to celebrate, but only just so.

We must also get in the field and remind them immediately of exactly all the circumstances surrounding the victory, lest they get too happy.

Bring back the golden Goal? Idk if there is a ideal solution

Also germany has a great young team. They just stopped playing in the middle of the second half. Tired I guess.

Yeah, all of them were in the middle of the pre-Season, they weren't at 100%. But the brazil players playing in europe were in the same Situation

Who said I'm not personally interested ? It's great to see some youth players and some older players that didn't get a chance to play the WC2014 for example.

Doesn't mean the tournament is getting bigger.
On the grand scale of footy matches, it's just at the bottom.

There were ALOT more viewers watching a preseason friendly, compared to any of the footy games at the Olympics.

Has more to do with the fact they had never won gold. I'm sure a few of these players wouldn't have been in the squad otherwise.

Agreed. European Football fan here, and I'd have to Google who won it in London 2012.

The reason for all this celebration is simply because the Olympic Gold Medal was the only title Brazil had never won in football. Now, Brazil officilly won at least once every competition it's taken part of.

I don't really understand the purpose of coming into the Olympics thread with the sole purpose to downplay how much Olympic football means.

It's a nice moment for Brazil after what happened at the WC, but I guess some people just can't allow that.

Where did I say there was something wrong with that? I think it's great to be happy for Brazil without taking too much out of the title as it pertains to the state of Brazilian football.

This is an awesome win for Brazil as a sporting nation. But probably not nearly as big a deal in pure footballing terms.

Both things can be true, and that's okay!

No gives a flying fuck about who won the Olympic football outside of the actual Olympics that it takes place in.

You're the best team of fourth string reserves who are mostly under-23 IN THE WORLD!

big who cares

You're in the Olympics OT. Talking about the irrelevance of an Olympic gold medal. And it's ridiculous.
