Amazing finals, gotta hand it to brazil for a proper return into its former glory, they poured their hearts, tears, and souls in the field today.

NBC spent the most money on Olympics and in addition to that they are probably paying BBC for the commentary... Also this is why the way BBC is financed is awesome. I don't think anyone else would bother paying for these commentators in the US.
Some of these commentators are pretty funny. You can tell that they came with prepared material .

For what it's worth, I would like the US to win gold in men's soccer at the olympic games, just like I would like them to win at the U17 or U20 World cup, but it is a 2nd tier event. The only reason I know Mexico won in 2012 is because Mexican fans wouldn't STFU about it, acting like they won something that was really meaningful.
IDK who won in 2008, 2004, or previous games. I don't even know who were in the finals in 2008 or who Mexico beat in 2012. On the other hand, I know who won the FIFA world cup probably all the way back to 1994 when Brazil won here in the US, and I can guess that either Argentina or Germany won in 1990.

That's not how it works. A lot of Olympic medals are won by less strong athletes on paper or with not top results. Guess what? That's not what matters. An Olympic medal holds the same value as other Olympic medals.

It's a nice trophy, especially for the young guys.
Add a few extra tears on top since it's a medal at home, but in the end it's pretty meaningless.
The majority would rather have a CL, EL medal, or a WC trophy.
That's how it is.
People can come in with their shitty salt arguments all they like, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not that important.
People will forgot about it rather fast, and it's simply not comparable to other sports at the Olympics.

It is true. If you interested you're more than welcome to look up why Great Britain don't enter a team into Olympic football (except when we hosted) but it's complicated.
There is no doubt that we would be awful if we did enter, that is not in dispute.
The football medal is the worst medal because the teams are not the best quality entrants their countries could muster. They are not even second teams.

They wanted to enter a team in every event for London.
While obviously true(to a certain extent), its better than nothing.
Olympics football was always the redheaded stepchild, but its atleast a stepchild.
