which would be more lethal, an arrow from an olympic archer or a javelin? i would think javelin, but that one dude did survive getting hit by one.

Didn't knew Spain got Celine Dion to participate for them at the High Jump event.

That girl is cheating, she does some magic thing with her fingers.

edit: yeah go Lake! <3

NBC keeps questioning the sex of Semenya.

That's because she certain male physiological traits.

I feel sorry Caster Semenya. It's likely she won't be able to run at another Olympics without having her testosterone levels reduced. The only reason she is allowed to run now is that the CAS said the previous testosterone limit was set at an arbitrary figure (not that there should not be a testosterone limit) and so a brief window has opened.

Or at least that is my understanding.

BBC said CAS gave the iaaf two years to collect evidence of high testosterone levels being a big advantage over the other athletes.

Mary sports get elevated by Olympics. Some don't. Football is one of the latter.

That was not the point I was making though.

Having stronger competitions outside Olympics doesn't make the medals less valuable. Basketball at Olympics existed before NBA players joining in. The value of boxing Olympic medals was never judged to be less because the professional boxers weren't in. Or in Winter Olympics you didn't get always the best hockey players.

Being a field judge for the Javelin or Hammer Throw competition has to be a little bit scary -_-

Less valuable than what? Than the World Cup? Sure is.

Ok, I've got a probably ignorant question about the 5k/10k. Surely one of these guys feels if they give it 100% the whole way then they will be fastest. So how come they always take a slightly leisurely pace until a certain point? That favours the good finishers but why doesn't one of the strong competitors just take the initiative and gamble that no one can beat them flat out?

You burn more fuel the faster you go. It's like with a car, the faster the burn rate, the higher the waste.
