I feel sorry Caster Semenya. It's likely she won't be able to run at another Olympics without having her testosterone levels reduced. The only reason she is allowed to run now is that the CAS said the previous testosterone limit was set at an arbitrary figure (not that there should not be a testosterone limit) and so a brief window has opened.

Or at least that is my understanding.

Having stronger competitions outside Olympics doesn't make the medals less valuable. Basketball at Olympics existed before NBA players joining in. The value of boxing Olympic medals was never judged to be less because the professional boxers weren't in. Or in Winter Olympics you didn't get always the best hockey players.

So how come they always take a slightly leisurely pace until a certain point? That favours the good finishers but why doesn't one of the strong competitors just take the initiative and gamble that no one can beat them flat out?
