Stop fighting, Europe wins anyway.

EU countries combined did win more medals than the US. Population of those country's aside, a fair way to determine US v. EU is to take the number of athletes representing US and EU then dividing that by the number of medals won. Assuming US basketball wins, the US will have won 46 gold medals with 555 athletes. Now I wonder what that ratio looks like with the EU

How about weighted medals by team size? http://www.medalspercapita.com/#medals-by-team-size:2016

Damn, this whole dick measuring contest...

The medal table is so inconsequential. Tomorrow morning, we're going back to Trump, unemployment, Brexit, terrorism, strikes, racism, deficits, syrian civil wal, political crisis, etc. It won't matter who, for one day, was the best at controlling dancing horses, throwing an heavy metal ball or swimming backward. It's silly fun for two weeks, but that's it.

The only real positive thing that can come out of this is a child being inspired and taking up a sport. Or an adult deciding to go for a run or a bike ride after watching all these fit people compete.

If people are throwing EU in, then throw Puerto Rico's gold into the US count!!

THIS IS FUCKING STUPID and you should feel ashamed you care about medal count at all. It's about the athletes.

The U.K. Absolutely smashed these games. The US did well but swimming is so over represented it's unbelievable . I do t know what to say but well done team GB and I wish we could emulate your talents.

We are no different. We dominate the indoor cycling events. Without those events we would also like slide down the table.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by 'nice try though'? The U.K. Has by far and away done the best for their country population/gdp , it isn't even a debate. I wish my country could have done so well.

But you live in London. Don't act like you're a neutral party here

As the planet becomes more and more inter connected, I wonder where would be the natural capital. All studies seem to land on either London or New York.

I am biased towards London. When I wake up here, I feel the pulse of the world beating. It is difficult to describe but London feels like the natural capital of the world.

What are your thoughts? Which city do you think should take the crown? Very interested to hear your thoughts.

If someone can invent a counting method to put India on top of the ranking, I'd love to see that....

They're working on it

Out of curiosity, why isn't pPuerto Rico included in the US total? I know it's not a proper US state, but it's still Kind of part of the US, isn't it?

It is absolutely part if the US. PR having an Olympic team was a political move decades ago by the non statehood party. Give the impression that we are seperate. A huge majority of the PR athletes obviously try out for the US team first as that is where the money is.

While UK did pretty amazingly in these olympics to be completely fair they are pretty much non factor in Winter Olympics. All US, Russia and Germany usually win decent amount of medals at winter games. Those winter sports also require funding and decent talent pool.

It's absolutely hilarious to shit on swimming when GB got a disportionate amount of golds from indoor cycling which is most of the most inaccessible sports at the olympics.

There are a ton of nations that dominate in a few sports. China in diving, table tennis, weightlifting etc. US in swimming and track and field. GB in indoor cycling etc. Dont be salty that your nation doesn't dominate in something else.

Winter in the UK is something we have to put up with.

Snow means the infrastructure comes to a grinding halt, we don't have any mountains to perfect any sort of skiing or snowboarding. We have some decent athletes in the single bobsledding but all in all not many care for the Winter games.

Sounding a little salty yourself.

Oh. I get it why UK isn't better at Winter games but that directly leads to having extra funding and talent for summer sports compared to many other countries where winter sports are also popular.

Watching this basketball final makes me feel better about competition in ice hockey. At least while Canada is always the favorite you have several nations that can win the tournaments.
