GOAT

Watching this basketball final makes me feel better about competition in ice hockey. At least while Canada is always the favorite you have several nations that can win the tournaments.

That's more due to the nature of hockey and scoring than talent parity. It's likelier for an underdog to pull a win over superior talent in hockey.

Well that is obviously also true but even as far as talent parity goes the difference between Canada vs others in ice hockey is not anywhere near the same as US vs others in basketball. There is 6 nations in ice hockey that can wield all around NHL teams with some top talent. In this basketball final Serbia had like one NBA player.

It always surprises me that US doesn't actually dominate shooting when they are almost drowning in guns and one of the big reasons I see people stating for support of second amendment is sports.

Damn missed the game but saw the score. Guess US finally put it all together for the last game.

Gonna miss the Olympics, always fun to watch.

Anyone have links for streams that will show the Closing Ceremony? Would rather watch non-NBC coverage since it will be filled with commercials and stuff.

Nope. We did really well. Top of the meal table once again. Can any country come close to us?

Not for the foreseeable future, unless Russia invades the countries that were part of the former Soviet Union and make them its own again. Then you'll see Russia and US duke it out at the top of the medal race like the old days.

I'm incredibly proud of our performance, even if our judoka were mostly terrible and our Women's Handball and VB (both indoor and beach) teams choked hard.

I'll make sure to remember these moments well, because I'm not sure if we'll ever get this many Golds in a single year ever again... Unless we start having great athletes in sports in which you can get a million medals by yourself :P

I remember the 1996 Olympics final. Yugoslavia with the 3-pointer of her current coach S.Djorgevic scores 50-51 against USA around the 30th minute, forcing L.Wilkins for the first time ever to call a time out. Z.Savic did not play in the final due to injury. He could have fouled out the American centers.

Only a unified Yugoslavia at that time could have given the USA a run for their money. Hadnt D.Petrovic died so tragically...

Not without glorious communism
not to mention they entered the Olympics after 1952!
