Original Post

Ha! 100/100 club.

I chose poorly movie-wise this month. The Jungle Book was ok, the Bill Hicks movie was good but not what you really want from a documentary, and the rest were pretty bad.

The books ran the gamut. I'm paranoid as shit from Cory Doctorow. The Sleeping Giants has a great world-building going on and I can't wait for the next one. Console Wars was quite interesting, though I wish Sega of Japan would go die in a fire for the shit they pulled. We could have had a Sega PlayStation for fuck's sake. Can you even imagine? Man.

Wizard of Earthsea was great. It wasn't until the afterword that I realized there wasn't a big conflict in the book and it's a fantasy book. Amazing. Can't wait to read the rest with my son.

GK86 - 8/50 books | 63/50 movies

Movies:

1- Deadpool
2- The Fundamentals of Caring
3- The Wave
4- Do You Even Know Who I Am?

Books:

1 - The Sword of Truth 4/5
2 - Chains of Command (Frontlines Book 4)

I really enjoyed Deadpool. It mixed action and comedy so well. I must say, The Wave was a nice surprise. Beautifully shot too!

Almost finished three books for the month, but last few days were kinda hectic. Aiming to do three or four in October.

Slowly started watching movies again, I won't get close to the insane numbers I did at the beginning but it's good to catch up on a couple of movies from this year. Still holding up on my book a week, pretty crazy, I never thought I'd read so much... and then I see zou with 217 books... what the hell that's really impressive!

September Update:

FUBAR McDangles - 27/50 Books (+5) | 67/50 Movies (+7)

Books
  1. Star Wars: Dark Disciple - Christie Golden | ★★★★
  2. The Fireman - Joe Hill | ★★
  3. The Way of Kings - Brandon Sanderson | ★★★★★
  4. Star Wars Aftermath: Life Debt - Chuck Wendig | ★★★
  5. Dark Matter - Blake Crouch | ★★★★

Favorite book was Way of Kings. I really did not like it much at all at the beginning, but around page 300 or so it really picked up and never let go. I don't know why I doubted Sanderson. Dark Disciple was surprisingly good, and Dark Matter was really good as well.

Least favorite was Fireman. I've come to the realization now that I just don't like Joe Hill's work. At all. Definitely someone I will avoid going forward. Life Debt was okay, probably not as good as the first one.

Movies
  1. Sausage Party | ★★★
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One | ★★★
  3. 13 Hours: Secret Soldiers of Benghazi | ★★★★
  4. Sicario | ★★★★
  5. True Grit (2010) | ★★★★
  6. Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates | ★★★★
  7. London Has Fallen | ★★★★

Lots of movies I enjoyed, but I'd say my favorite of the group was Mike and Dave. It was just hilarious from beginning to end. 13 Hours was a surprise and was really good, Sicario was good, True Grit was good, London Has Fallen was a very, very worthy successor to one of my favorite all time action movies.

Least favorite movie was the Harry Potter one - the only one I never saw in theaters and the only one I never saw period. It was incredibly boring. The split into two movies is incredibly lame. Sausage Party started out strong and had a fantastic ending but the middle 20 minutes or so was so boring.

kinoki - 52/50 books | 90/50 movies

  5. Insomnia (2002), dir. Christopher Nolan - ★★½
  6. The Good Dinosaur (2015), dir. Peter Sohn - ★★

Reading took a dive. A Little Life wasn't so little after all. But also started reading The Economist during my commute so it ate away at my designated reading time.

And I've become a bit burned out from movies. So many half-decent or uninspirational movies. Even Sicario which I've been looking forward to felt like a disappointment even though there was so many things I liked about it.

Also, did the math on my progress compared to 2015 and this is the month I'm falling behind last year's efforts. (Edit: And I just checked my Goodreads' stats, interestingly enough I've only read 1000 pages less than last year's total despite being 17 books behind.)

40. Money Monster
41. The Gift
42. Kubo and the Two Strings
43. X-Men Apocalypse
44. Everybody Wants Some
45. The Deep Blue Sea

Some of those are from last month. Standout books were Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang (I assume the film Lucy was an adaptation of 'Understand'? which was one of my favourites) and Command and Control by Eric Schlosser. Film-wise, Kubo and the Two Strings was really great, though a little sentimental.

Once again I have been missed. My fault for not putting up my updated September post when the end of the month arrived. Here is my September post:

September Update

renegade_dewitt - 10/50 books | 28/50 films

Books

Movies
  • The Neon Demon ★★★★★
  • Midnight Special ★★★
  • The Secret Life of Pets ★★★★

Liked MR Robot so much I rewatched both seasons recently. Also finished up some books that I had a hundred pages left in between a couple of busy busy months at work (and also with the social life). But just a hundred more pages from both the Illiad and Herodotus and I'll Fully be done with the book section -- yeah yeah so I've counted them already. Guess I need to start watching some more movies.
