What did you think of Assassin's Apprentice and The People in the Trees? (I want to ask about most of them but I'll restrict myself to those two.) And reading all those including Don Quixote is... gosh.

I really enjoyed both! With AA, I was in the mood for fantasy and saw that many gaffers said that they liked the series, so I gave it a try. I was surprised how easy it was to read and that it wasn't young adult actually lol. Another issue I had was that I knew what the characters were gonna do before they did it and stuff that took the main character multiple chapters to figure out, I had figured it out right away. I do like the main character tho and I wanna continue with the series.

The People in the Trees was amazing. For a debut novel I thought it was quite ambitious! The author must have spent a lot of time researching the culture of South Pacific islanders. I loved the faux memoir format and even though the main character is a terrible person, I was completely enthralled in the story about him on the island and the consequences of his actions related to the island. I'm reading A Little Life now (also by the same author) and loving it, so I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

^_^ I'm really glad you liked them. Fitz is great, he's one of my favourite fantasy characters along with the Fool, but yeah he can drive you bonkers with his idiocy. The thing that makes it bearable is I think Hobb usually makes the reasons he acts like a twit pretty convincing. If you stick with the series you have 14 books to read before next May! (in time for the final book in the latest trilogy).

I agree The People in the Trees was really fascinating and totally excellent, I like this review of it, probably because it talks about stuff I got a vague impression of but couldn't articulate myself lol. A Little Life is very different but even better imo, glad you're loving it! Unfortunately Yanagihara has said she's not working or planning to work on another book, though that might have changed since I last checked, she's said she has ideas at least, so I'm hopeful.

Been traveling so much that I keep forgetting to actually post the chart once I've updated it.

Uptick in both movies and books last month. I presume with the challenge drawing to a close and the winter months sending people inside, we'll see numbers go up these last two months.

I was expecting books to be harder when I started but I found it harder than I expected to just carve out two uninterrupted hours a week to watch a movie but taking in Christmas break I should make it.
