I really don't think so. It was cheaper, had gaming focus, exclusives + the Playstation brand recognition. I really don't think power had that much to do with its success.the main reason PS4 sold more was because it was more powerful, so best place to play 3rd party games and less expensive.
Exactly the point. What about new console owners who are late to the party? You think Sony and Ms sold the bulk of their consoles the first year or 2. No one cared about the higher specs of midgen refreshes. Only nerds with 4k tvs. Most people still dont have them. They just wanna play with their friends in the same eosystem and have fun.Power difference between pro and x was not a deciding factor for anything this gen. Most of the gaming populations owned the base consoles. It wouldn’t have made a difference.
Its an IGN poll. Its audience consists of mainly English speaking countries in which they sold well anyway.
Assuming that you asked a genuine question and not a rhetorical question, the new Xbox is more powerful than the majority of PC gaming rigs out there. Not everyone has a card more powerful than an RTX 2080 Super + 1TB NVME SSD + Ryzen 3700x, and this coming recession isn't going to help many people upgrade their PC rigs to play Halo Infinite and next-gen games at console level quality.I don't even get why I would bother buying an Xbox since most of the games I can already play on PC with Game Pass. Sony has been dominating the exclusives for so long while Xbox exclusives keep flopping, outside of potentially the new Halo. It literally makes no sense to buy Xbox at launch.
1.5:1, seems about right.
Watch it go 2:1 again after Series S gets announced.
(in favor of PS5, obviously)
I know, I hadn't even added games to the mix.I think it will go up, but more because of what Sony (console and exclusives) actually start to show, not really because of what MS shows. One has to remember EVERYTHING MS makes can be played on a PC. And soon they will be able to be played on weaker PCs using xCloud. Sony will have games that can't be played anywhere. We already have three 3rd party games announced that won't be coming to XBX anytime soon, if at all, and Sony hasn't even shown the console, yet. Two being on PS4/PS5 and one that will be on PS5/PC. Those games being Project Awakening (which may just move to PS5 only at this point), Quantum Error, and Godfall,. Then, you have the exclusives that will be coming within the next year or two. Bluepoint's remake, GOW2, Horizon 2, GT7. Hopefully, Knack 3.
In other words, games are more important than a ~18% difference in power.
Sony was already eating back at that momemtum with the Ps3. The last years of the ps3 Sony saw sales pick up drastically. They carried that mometum into the ps4. Sony is not synonymous with hardcore gaming. Sony is synonymous with GAMING in general. They have gaming history in all genres. MS dosent have the same brand power. So when they went with the Kinect TV launch of XBONE..it backfired. Poorer specs, Plus the forced kinect/TV addidtion, PLUS the higher pricetag PLUS having a weak software lineup is what doomed the XBONE launch. Not just specs. The majority of consumers play third party developed and published games as they are the driving forces of the industry.
The PS4 showed that consumers went with the better game box. Now the Series X is the better game box. They both have the same software and interchangeable exclusives that in reality don’t mean much... they bolster lineups but haven’t been the dominant movers and shakers in the industry for a long time now.
Nintendo is in the handheld market and is performing as they always did in the handheld market. When they were competing at home people did in fact not choose Nintendo.
I agree that branding is the most important and that something like that... being able to see what happens moving forward ... is nebulous. The PS4 was synonymous with hardcore gaming this gen and overall had the best versions of games until the mid-gen hardware revisions. The 360 before it was in a similar position. It can easily change from generation to generation from day one at launch.
All the games that would be on gamepass would likely just be xbox one games at higher res. Whether that is a good value proposition or not will be up to the marketing. It's basically just a high end PC you can get now but at a lower price.Totally expect the Xbox to have an insignificant increase of price over Ps5, as it should since it’s the better machine... however... all major games appearing on gamespass for peanuts offsets that issue and makes the series X a better value proposition overall.
100$ isn’t that huge of a difference unless the welfare gamer demographic fails to squeeze enough game purchases out of their 1200$ trump buck checks from mom and dad.

I'm also not the target audience for Sony's woke Califorina developers.
Edit:.
I bet none of the xbox fans even stopped and thought about how Sony maybe anticipated Series S and strategically went with the current PS5 specs and design.

Bleeding Edge was Xbox's headlining game at last year's E3.
Bleeding Edge didn't even get an OT on GAF.
Think about that.
And its funny..the moment MS tried to emulate the success Nintendo Wii was having was when everything fell apart. Nintendo can drop A Wii U and bounce right back. They have brand recognition and software!"When they were competing at home they did not in fact choose Nintendo." The original NES and more importantly the Snes would like to have a word with you. Not to mention the Wii. I believe the gamecube outsold the xbox as well.
There's over 100 threads for you to take that argument up. Idc for "my dad can beat up your dad" arguments. You feel a need to justify yourself your purchase, that's a YOU problem, not mine.

Because it's not just price that's gonna be lower, specs as well. How would having an extra more affordable option for consumers on the Xbox side boost PS5 sales ..?
Power was not what made PS4 sells most.the main reason PS4 sold more was because it was more powerful, so best place to play 3rd party games and less expensive.
But why? MS wont be $100 more expensive and less powerful.. why would nothing change? lol it should be better
It will probably be higher for PS5.Poll results will change as more realize the PS5 is significantly underpowered compared to series X.
Not true. PS4 sucess are library and how bad Xbox One started about TV, TV, sports, sports, stupid always online and the most important was PRICE.the main reason PS4 sold more was because it was more powerful, so best place to play 3rd party games and less expensive.
Price played a huge role that and Microsofts poor messaging with their brand and console. They shot themselves one to many times in the foote and fans wanted them to bleed out. Note the cheers at E3 for ps4 were highly due to being able to play used games, no online check in and pricing. Power had little effect.the main reason PS4 sold more was because it was more powerful, so best place to play 3rd party games and less expensive.
The vanilla PS4 is way more weaker than the xbox one x yet the ps4 is bodying it in sales....why you think that is...?Poll results will change as more realize the PS5 is significantly underpowered compared to series X.
Because it's not just price that's gonna be lower, specs as well.
Read, think, then think some more.
It isn't rocket-science.
PS5 would be a better deal price/quality-wise.
And then games on top of it.

No, most people will go "hey, there's three options and Playstation is always good, so given the price and power, it's basically the perfect middleground."So you're telling me people will be like "I want a Series X, it's been months now. Oh wait MS also announced a Series S?! Okay I don't want a Series X anymore, I'll buy the PS5"
Sorry bro, that's absolutely catastrophic logic.
It doesn't matter if its new gen the fact that most people think power=purchase is an idiotic claim. If power was everything then the xbox one x would be outselling even the vanilla ps4. If power meant everything then why is the Switch outselling both the xbox and ps4...? Seriously people...Didn't know the PS4 Pro and the One X were new-gen releases.
No, most people will go "hey, there's three options and Playstation is always good, so given the price and power, it's basically the perfect middleground."
Most people don't care about Xbox though.I don't believe that one second. There's a reason every phone manufacturer now releases at least 2 versions of their flagship devices. It boosts sales, more options = more selling opportunities.
Also, remember when "most people" were going to be so utterly confused about the Series X name,? Yeah ... Gaf obviously doesn't know how "most people" function.

Ok then why is the switch doing well compared to them then? Again the fact you think power = purchase is idiotic and it will be proven that Sony will have better and higher sales than the xbox, its a fact. Are you seriously asking why the One X didn't outsell the PS4 .. ? So you're comparing mid-gen refreshes to New Gen releases .. ?
In that case, there's no hope and may as well end the conversation here ✌
Actual market results will be different when people see Sonys first party PS5 exclusive games.Poll results will change as more realize the PS5 is significantly underpowered compared to series X.
