Got one from Best Buy last night, and then talked to my buddy who wasn't expecting them to go on sale until tomorrow. He wanted to buy it for his daughter. I told him if he can't get one I'll sell him mine for cost. Now I kind of regret it lol

I'm not sure how you managed to buy one this early, unless either A) you're in a location 5 hours ahead of Central time or B) the store broke the sale time early. I just got back from Walmart, Best Buy, and Fry's and of the three the latter two aren't even open until 5PM and the Walmart staff told me the sale starts at 6.
I got that email as well. Twice actually. Both for the black one even though I only ordered one black one (and a white one, but in a separate order).
Checked and both my orders seems fine. So weird :\

I am confused why these are so desirable. Are you all jumping in to the 3DS family for the first time?
Personally, this is the first 3DS. I've just had my DS for years now and this price tag is low enough for me to jump in and get a 3DS
This is my first 3DS. I end up getting handhelds at the end of the generation because I can
1) Get the best model
2) Not have to wait for games to come out
3) Pay less for the hardware

$99 for a pretty white 3DS! In the US! We only had ugly colors or black ones available before.
I have a n3dsXL black, but I'm switching. Just bought the white charger stand, hori screen protector and animal crossing faceplate on play-asia in anticipation!

I've had the fat regular XL since it launched and finally had the funds to replace it.
Because they come with firmware you can pirate on and they're cheap.
Bought one for my sibling, who has never owned a console and hasn't owned a handheld since the DS lite. Also interested in buying a new one for myself, since my XL's Dpad is getting sticky and the form factor of the regular n3DS appeals to me more.
Also faceplates.

$99 is impulse buy territory. And it's the holiday season, a lot of people are buying gifts.
Also when something is limited in stock and sells out quickly it creates a "fear of missing out" psychological effect in people's minds.
Normally these go for $170-180. XL is $200
And 3DS is easily hackable now... the prospect of free games on a cheap system has mass appeal. I'm not accusing anyone of pirating here, but let's not kid ourselves, this point increases desirability and demand.
Personally I've had 3DSes since launch, and I prefer the XLs. But I've been wanting to get one or two for my little nephews since they love video games and rarely get a chance to play on mine.
Mostly because Amazon should have limited at one per customer/physical direction or something. People are justified to review it based on the scalper prices that are showing up now on the page.
Amazon should disallow reviews unless purchase verified.

I should provide some info, this all went down in BC, Canada (PST). What I believe is going on is that in Canada the big "Pre-Black Friday Sale" starts on Thursday. And that's it, it all starts at store opening rather than shutting down for the day and opening in the afternoon.
"Black Friday" isn't made out to be that big of a deal (compared to Boxing day).

Personally I don't own yet a New 3DS and I've been wanting to make the switch for a while.
Plus, 100 bucks for a soon to be discontinued handheld is as much as I'm willing to pay at this moment.
Every time I hear something new about Canada I want to move there just a little bit more.

It doesn't, the adapter is sold separately (buy a USB one for more utility, they're $10)

I would rather use the smaller N3DS than my XL. The resolution is better. The smaller N3DS is more comfortable for me to hold. I like faceplate idea. Getting a new unit also means a new battery.
That said, I'm shit out of luck because of Nintendo's piss-poor allocation. Online all out, allocations at retailers purportedly quite limited. So, I guess I'm stuck with the one I have.

And adapter could be more convenient/portable; using one cable+adapter for your phone/tablet and 3DS instead of carrying two cables.
