$99 New 3DS Black Friday Deal

Mine actually arrived today but I keep getting an error when I connect to the internet to try and do an system transfer. Course that's when I noticed my XL probably has the IPS and the new one I got doesn't.

Are you getting the error on the old 3DS after putting in your NNID and password? If so, the same thing happened to me over and over again until I turned off the New 3DS (powered off not just closed the lid) and tried again. Wait until the old 3DS is fully connected then start up the New 3DS and proceed. It's like the new one was interfering with the connection.

Edit: Glad you figured it out :P Maybe this will help someone else though

Correct, just had to restart the source system.

240p is the gold standard for Virtual Console games :P

Your line of reasoning doesn't apply to everyone, and your attitude is condescending. Just because the only available options are varying degrees of bad doesn't mean some people don't want to get the least bad ones of the bunch, especially when they love the system and the games on it and plan to hold on to their systems for years and years to come.

Despite its flaws, the New 3DS is very special to me (and it's my favorite system of the current AND past generations combined), because not only does it have a fantastic library of exclusive games, but also perfect, near-perfect and better-than-original (in the case of Sega/M2) ports of 8 and 16 bit and arcade classics, in portable form. And for someone like me who absolutely loves auto-stereoscopic 3D, and seeing that the Switch doesn't have that (nor does any other system for that matter), it makes me all the more inclined to try my damnedest to procure the best version of this hardware possible, because I will be cherishing it for years and years after its no longer in retail or supported.

Even if you don't care for 3D, but are a gamer and a collector who doesn't sell off their games and system the day a successor is released, then the 3DS is the last of the DS-line and that makes it special and something a lot of gamers will hold on to, since we know Switch will not be backwards compatible.

Truth.

The system houses gems (best in series, to me) like Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus Uprising, Fire Emblem Fates/Awakening, Pokémon X, Luigis Mansion Dark Moon, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Mario Golf World Tour, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Dead or Alive Dimensions, Super Smash Bros.

Also houses some of the best originals and remakes: Star Fox 64 3D, Ocarina of Time/Majoras Mask 3D, Metal Gear Solid 3D, Resident Evil Revelations, Kingdom Hearts DDD, Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse, Yokai Watch, Codename Steam, Bravely Deafult, Xenoblade Chronicles.

Not to mention the phenomenal Digital games like Shovel Knight, Harmoknight, Pushmo, BoxBoy, Steamworld, Crimson Shroud, Rustys Real Deal baseblall, amongst others.

Fantastic virtual console and ports of classic titles....

....plus the damn 3D screen first truly mass market glasses-less 3D. A realization of the Back to the Future kid dream I had when jaws lept off of the billboard at Marty.

I love this system.

Would Nintendo be willing to switch the screens if sent to them?

Apparently not: https://youtu.be/8vqtB4BNr1M

This guy sent his to Nintendo and asked them to replace the TNs with IPS, but they sent it back with dual TNs (as I found out in the comments).

Maybe you can console yourself with this sentiment from one of the comments on that video:

I personally wouldn't jump the gun on trading in the TN for the IPS even if you could. The TN version of the N3DS is more color accurate than those with the IPS Panel.
Granted, IPS panels are generally better... and it'll have better viewing angles... and won't color shift when moving it around....
but it seems incredibly evident that the gamma curve adjustment applied at the firmware level for the N3DS is calibrated and meant for the TN Panel.
Watching other comparison videos... comparing the TN and IPS versions of the N3DS through gameplay... especially games like Resident Evil, but even with Mario Kart... there are entire portions in darker areas of the image that get clipped out...
What you are perceiving as much more 'colorful' and 'detailed' is the result of the darker values along the RGB spectrum getting crushed together. I could demonstrate this further in Photoshop with a curves adjustment layer to show this effect works. It can make an image appear more "Vibrant" and "colorful"... but it's the result of actually compressing the color range.
This can be proved further by simply loading up the N3DS browser and loading up a black level test pattern from a website.... the IPS version of the handheld does very poorly...
Even the TN Panel is slightly compressed from the adjustment curved used on the system... likely to give it a slightly more colorful appearance... but the main issue there is the IPS panel (which probably starts out more neutral and color accurate) suffers a great deal from it.

If you must have an IPS panel... I would go with the XL/LL model. It doesn't have the same issues as the smaller model with the IPS display.

Thanks for the response. I'm not the type of person that takes stuff like this too well. I'm already here trying to convince myself that it isn't that big of a deal but it will be a while before I never think of it again.

For anyone waiting on their Walmart order:

I snagged a black N3DS from Walmart.com Wednesday night and paid $6 extra to have it shipped by Saturday (yesterday). That very night my order was processed, and on Thursday morning I got confirmation from Walmart that it had shipped and would arrive yesterday.

Well it never came, and when I looked up the tracking number the last update from FedEx was on Thanksgiving, saying that a label was created. I called FedEx and they said that they hadn't received the product from Walmart yet.

I called Walmart support, and the lady looked into it. She said she couldn't really get me any more information, but she did say that if they were out of stock then my order would have just been canceled. In other words, if you were charged and Walmart gave you a notice that your order was processed and shipped, you *are* getting your N3DS, but it's just delayed. She said she worked at FedEx for a long time, and she saw this happen every year around the holidays. She just told me to wait a few extra days for it to show up.

I got my extra shipping charge refunded, obviously. She also mentioned that Walmart is completely out of these, otherwise she would have just expressed me a replacement. So there's that. I'm sure many of you are waiting like I am. I'm going to give it until Tuesday before I get frustrated.

I did in-store pickup at Walmart and it originally said 11/30, but it ended up coming in yesterday. Picked it up with no issues. Now to make my way through the grueling process of getting CFW on it.

Yup, that is not a walk in the park for sure. After I first did it on my old XL, I went to buy a New XL and I asked the store if I can turn it on to check the firmware, and they allowed me to do it. So while I was going through the initial setup before I could get to the settings screen we had a chat about hacking the system, the store clerk seemed very intrigued (it's a small store but a popular one in my city) and I told them that I already did it on my old 3DS. He asked me if I would be interested in providing it as a service to their customers, he said they'd pay me $70 a pop for installing CFW, I remembered the grueling process and quickly said "Nope, my time is more valuable than that." -- I gave him the URL for Plailect's guide, paid for the New XL and left.

If I had a CFW 3DS (hopfully that 11.0 CFW comes out soon) I'd do that - as long as it doesn't take 7 hours it'll still pay better than my part-time job lol. I homebrewed all the Wii's for my college smash club for PM and 20XX.

Is 3DS CFW that much harder than Wii iOS homebrew?

The black n3DS I ordered from Amazon with 1-day shipping in literally the first two minutes they went up Wednesday night is finally just now preparing for shipment and I've finally been charged. Kind of annoyed since I did one-day hoping it would ship Friday for a Saturday delivery since I'm gone all day during the week, but I'm just happy it's finally going out and I didn't somehow get fucked.

So, are these gone online now? I want to get one as a gift for my brother who just got his Phd and has a birthday on Dec 31, not to mention Christmas.

Received mine from Amazon. Opened it, looked at it and put it back in the box.

Gonna wait until the screen protectors arrive.

I'm not sure, one guy here said YW7012 and below, another said YW7011 and YW7010 are guaranteed dual IPS. You can Google it.

A large number of 7012 have at least one IPS. 7010 and 7011 are all guaranteed dual IPS.

This is for the Mario Land 3D white n3ds. Anything after 7012 like 7016 or 7017 are all guaranteed TN.

not really. theres a full guide out there holding your hand through everything

before it use to take 3-5 hours to fully complete but now its 45min-1 hour tops

First time it took me 5 hours or so, and that was a month or two ago. Yes the guide is fantastic, but I bet most people coming to it for the first time will get stuck not being sure what to do next or face a non-typical scenario that would require them to look for answers outside the guide and/or improvise (which can be nerv wracking, because a mistake could potentially set you back a good chunk of time). Although my second time on the New XL was faster/easier, I still had some difficulty and had to improvise.

I know the methods and the guide are continually updated and refined, and it seems to get easier every month. Might not be as bad now.

Wow. Didn't expect the buttons and D-Pad to be so small. I like the form factor better than the XL, but don't think I can do this.

Wait what... the D-Pad and buttons are smaller on this than the XL?? I really thought they would be the same :\

Depending on how I like/dislike the white one when it arrives (the last white handheld I had was the DS Lite, haven't been fond of white on any electronics in years), and depending on how I feel about the smaller(seriously?) buttons and d-pad, I might go around town looking for one of the Mario 3D land bundles to check the serials. Although I don't recall seeing any of them around here.

Where'd you end up buying screen protectors from? I ended up ordering a Hori set from Amazon Japan for ~$14 shipped. It's supposed to come Tuesday or Wednesday but who knows.

Just received mine from Amazon. Debating whether to keep it sell it at a very small profit. If anyone wants to make an offer, feel free.

has anyone's amazon orders shipped?

Just received mine today. Notice the screen has a slight yellow tint compared to my OG 3ds but it's not worth returning at this point.

Just glad to have dodged a bullet with Walmart online.

Heh, just noticed the Amazon reviews. Can't blame them since their garbage email alert system didn't work on Wednesday

Amazon, but didn't get the Hori ones because they were from third party sellers with their shipping.. I bought another brand, but they no longer show as being shipped by Amazon anymore.

I guess I'm bored... posting screenshots from an unboxing video :\

dat TN

Best I could find on youtube. Most all videos are of the black one.
THanks for those that is helpful, the white doesnt look as reflective to me....
Man, that black one looks really nice in those images. I was pretty deadset on white but now I'm not sure how I feel about it haha.

I am in the same boat, i was all about white until I saw some images of the outside of teh black one. I like the colored buttons on the white better though.

I've been playing on mine for hours now and I love it. So much better than my ex-gf's original 3DS (man that thing was UGLY) but I hate how I have to swap carts all the time, and I am dying for some achievements.. especially in Animal Crossing.

REALLY Hope the Switch has a proper achievement/trophy system. I would be gutted if they skip it AGAIN.

Anyone seen any images of the coverplates on a black 3ds? Wondering how they would look but I can only find white ones.

I have a bunch of coverplates and a black n3DS, if I get some time, I'll try and upload some pics so you can see different options.

My current favorite is the kirby one though.
