are these still supposed to be $99 if found in stores? I just saw three of the black ones in a case at a walmart. I'd go back for 'em, I just didn't have my card on me.
What settings are you guys using for brightness, auto brightness, power saving mode?
Thanks to you guys, I think I've found what I wanted! I stopped at the local Walmart in town yesterday before traveling back home from Thanksgiving visit. Surprisingly, there were 5 SM3DL bundles, each $149. I asked the electronics associate if he could check the serials first before buying. He opened the glass to check each one, and the last happened to have serial starting YW7011 (the rest were YW7013). Here's a few shots against my MM 3ds xl, ips top lcd, tn bottom. OFW 10.7 installed.
Wow, those viewing angles![]()
makes me wish I kept both my N3DS pre-orders from Amazon. instead I canceled the black and kept the white.
I can't find anything on my model.... QW1116
With IPS, I can see the screen just fine at an extreme angle?
Here's what I was talking about earlier, with the backlight bleeding through the plastic.
What city are you in that they had five of those left in store??
It's strange that this is a thing for only some units but not a big deal anyways. It's only ever visible in the dark, and less so with brightness turned down a bit.I checked my white n3ds in the dark and cannot replicate that; seems there may be certain batches with this light bleeding. :/
Got my N3DS Black in the mail from Amazon today. I really love the way it looks. I had a white N3DS from the Happy Home Designer bundle (which I'm gonna sell now), but black looks so much better. I also love the faceplates, they have a great feel to them.
I have no idea if this unit is TN or IPS, but I think it might be TN. Is there a sure-fire way to verify via serials or some kind of test?
I'm still holding onto my Majora's Mask N3DS XL in case I ever wanna switch back...
Even a slight angle affects colors with our TN 3ds'Picture significantly washes out when viewing it at a strong angle.
So right now no way to confirm whether a panel is IPS or TN correct? I mean we can speculate based on viewing angles but no serial numbers to check or other "semi official" method.

This reminds me...everyone that's buying an n3DS for the first time: please turn off the auto brightness. It's the shortest implementation of auto brightness that I've ever come across. Constantly keeps changing, and very overtly (whereas on phones it's kind of a fade change). I don't know what Nintendo was thinking when they added the feature like this. How it got beyond QA is absurd. Shouldn't be surprised though as Nintendo's hardware quality has been dropping for a while now.I don't know about the rest of you, but my dual TN N3DS is fine for me. I've set brightness at 5 with no auto-bright and it looks great. These things were hard enough to get without the additional IPS lottery.

So are there any actual confirmed IPS screens in these models so far?

Got it, thank you! Pretty sure both the new black one and my previous HHD white one are both TN. Lived with it this long so I guess I'll keep living with it![]()
I forget where I found it (probably Neogaf), but there is a good guide about transferring out there. The language can be a little confusing from what I remember.Oh yeah, any guide for easy transfer of games and saves? I think I heard that there are some issues?
The switch is going to have a low-res 720p TN display from bargain basement producers. You heard it here first!I have this too. Let's hope the build quality of the Switch has a bit more love.

The easiest and fastest way is to just swap the SD card into the new 3ds (or transfer the data to the new card from your old one using a computer). It saves a ton of time since the wireless transfer of everything can take a LONG time.
Is it possible to find ANY US 3DS online AT ALL? My old US 3DS XL just broke down (circle pad problem) and I need a new one asap. I live in Europe so it has to be online, all I could find is that stupid Amazon Lime green XL and I don't want black interior. Is this my only option?
Damn, Pokémon. Because of you I can't replace my 3DS.
How about a 2DS?
Where? None of the big sites (amazon, Gamstop, Bestbuy, Target) have any 2DS in stock.
Thanks. I may reuse a 128 card I have sitting around.

I was super bummed that I was only able to score the black one on Amazon so I went to Gamestop at 5am to get a white one. I wanted the white because I liked the way it matched other faceplates and liked how the current faceplates didn't reflect so much in the light, making the icons less visible to others ( I still get somewhat embarrassed as an adult playing videogames in public so Mario and Luigi being so visible on the black faceplate was a potential issue for me). But after having them both side by side I sold the white one to a buddy. The matte black finish is so sleek and sexy I fell in love with it instantly. Also after my kid gets a hold of the white one I was nervous about it getting very dirty. You might change your tune when you get the black in personPart of me regrets getting black and not getting white.

My Walmart order on the 25th just shipped. Expected delivery date is still Dec 16th but I doubt it's in transit that long.
What time did you order?

This is my first 3DS and while I'm really enjoying it, my one minor quibble is the power button. I've never had such difficulty trying to turn a device on and off as I am with this one. I have to dig my fingernail into it just to press it and it doesn't feel responsive at all. They way I have to turn it and grip it awkwardly while the shell is open just to power it off is pretty annoying, but a minor quibble nonetheless. Is there a way to turn it off when the screen is closed? I got it to work one time but I can't find a proper indicator that it is powering down when closed
Same, the only occasion that I use the power button is if I let the battery die and have to turn it back on after charging.I don't think I've used the power button on my N3DS since I've purchased it. It's either being played, in sleep mode, or charging.
Finally picked up my black new 3DS at Toys r Us. I honestly forgot I ordered it. Very surprised they held it this long.
