Why can't this guy just give people some straight answers? Damn, he is annoying.
Absolutely could be. Some folks are just more focused on Sean's ambiguous wording over the past year+ and associating it with doomsday scenarios from the jump. But in their defense, the ambiguity was there. Thus this dumpster fire of a thread.
How do you know that the feature isn't disabled or functioning incorrectly because of network load?

I'm already working up the papers to get Sean Murray extradited to the United States.
just saw the new revised cover for the game...
looking good..
the time in the photo is clearly different
thus they are at different points in space-time and not in the same place
physics
Because in that case they would give a straight answer. But all they are doing is dancing around the issue. How do you know that the feature isn't disabled or functioning incorrectly because of network load?

If it was just a bug, then why wouldn't he be clear with his customers and tweet out something like: "Hey guys, we saw this stream, amazing that two people met already, we're working on getting this fixed!"?
But he's not doing that. And now ask yourself why he isn't.
I like your initiative. We'll ring Obama in the morning.
I fear for Sean! Should we pick a country that doesn't have the death penalty?

I try to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and say he's not being deceptive. Rather he tries to keep some magic and mystique to their game. For the initial period at least. People will rip the game apart, especially on PC and find out how things work. People will start exploiting the systems to do things the creators intended to happen rarely (or never) and suddenly the game's moments feels a little less special. Why can't this guy just give people some straight answers? The interesting thing here is that NO OTHER DEVELOPER WOULD GET AWAY WITH THIS.
What you're saying is exactly what Molyneux did for the longest time and he got scorched for it: He said something AMAZING would be in the game, then it turned out that they couldn't develop that feature and was never clear with anybody that this particular feature didn't end up in the game.
So effectively, it's still a lie - You're saying one thing, but in the end, it's just not true. So even if they did some multiplayer tests sometime during development, why the shit should players care about that? Based on all the interviews where he clearly said: "YES, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE OTHER PLAYERS!", people have been mislead in thinking that they'd be able to meet up with their friends, even if it's gonna take a long time - but in the end, it's just not true.
It's 1:1 exactly what Molyneux did in the past - Saying something would be in the game only for people to find out that that was all bollocks. Not being clear with your customers is a shameful thing and his tweets are completely outrageous. Just man up and be clear with people on what's in the game and what isn't. If it was a bug, come out and say so. Don't beat around the bush or just face the fact that people will call you a liar.
Devs are usually much faster and much better at saying when a feature was cut or how they were changed. Especially on twitter. He gave two incredibly contradictory vague answers in the span of 24 hours.

He never said a thing about instances, he's never been clear at all on any of this, which is why people just expect it to simply work - and call him out as a liar because it doesn't.

2000 posts in and Im still here. Help.
Maybe they each had cloaking devices on which cannot be turned off (in game bug).
You're not alone........where did it all go wrong?

This is my thread of the year so far, a not working/missing feature in a game causes grown men to want to harm each other. It's been more entertaining than anything I've watched on TV recently, better value for money than the latest Suicide Squad movie I saw at the cinema on Sunday.
I'm getting that too. People are asking questions and he is just talking about how great they are.

What's ambiguous about stuff like:
Interviewer: "You guys are literally building your own massively multiplayer world."
No contradiction from Sean. Sean sits there and plays the shy guy. (or maybe he is... doesn't matter tbh)
Interviewer: "Do we ever get to see ourselves?"
Sean:"... the only way for you to know what you look like is for somebody else to see you."
Interviewer:"Can you run into other people?"
Sean: "Yes.... unlikely to happen"
Interviewer: "WOW"
Interviewer:"How much interaction is there with other people playing NMS.."
Sean:"Those were AI ... but you could encounter other players..."
Interviewer:" Will you be able to play with your friends?"
Sean:"Yeah!"
Interviewer:" Can you grief other players?"
Sean: " A little bit."
Because in that case they would give a straight answer. But all they are doing is dancing around the issue.
Why not be clear about it then? Don't dance around the issue, if they are having technical difficulties just say that.
I'm not sure the term "grown men" can be used here!!
He'd be a good politician
There is no way to know from that video when he said those things. Nor do we know if it when the feature was canned (if so), or if he was outright lying there (I have absolutely not the feeling he is lying in those interviews. I feel like at that time the feature was there, but who knows, right).
Why is there 21 pages of this already lmao.
Sean hasn't lied. I can't believe there is 41 pages on this...just two people have met so far and for whatever reason the matchmaking didn't work.
I saw the thread start last night and I thought after the second page maybe people would see the NAT issues they were having and chalk it off to some network shenanigans. But no DEVS LIED DESTROY THEM in full force. The thirst is surreal.
Because people are angry they lied when the servers are dead and burning. Why is there 21 pages of this already lmao.
