Adam Boyes is Leaving Playstation - Returning to Game Dev

Anyone know why? He seemed like he was fine there.
It says why in the thread title and he reiterates it in the podcast that he basically really wants to return to game development.

This makes...no sense at all...

Modern business system baffles me..He is one of the reasons for PS4's success yet even couldnt stay...like...Even if he chose to leave(doubtful) still makes no sense.

It makes a lot of sense. Many people leave their well paying jobs, even ones that they like, to go and pursue passions if they have the chance to. I'm having a hard time understanding why it's hard to believe the reason he gave....

First Suttner, now Boyes. I don't like it, especially in combination with the lack of indie stuff at Sony's E3 presser.

Yoshida will be doing a lecture with Masaya Matsuura (Parappa creator) at BitSummit this Saturday, and Gio is also there. There will also be a separate lecture by Sony there.

He's a big deal to be moving over to an indie. They're going to have instant clout, whichever studio it may be.

I wanted to ask if anyone thought it was coincidence or something else going on within Sony but someone mentioned restructuring due to the regions getting consolidated. Still, to have two big departures while Sony is on top is interesting, especially two people integral to why Sony is where it is today.

Good luck Adam and Nick!

There's plenty of indies during the pre show and after show. I'm glad they're leaving the conferences to the big groundbreaking 1st party games.

It makes perfect sense. Adam came in, was part of an extremely successful launch and helped to keep the PS4 trucking along post launch, and now is looking for a NEW personal challenge. What does he have to gain by staying at Sony?

I wish him all the best.

By the way why has no one posted the Adam swing GIF?

Found it myself. This sums up the amazing Boyes

He did a lot for PS and was always entertaining whenever you see him. Best of luck to him.

I'm sure this has been posted already but.

They have an extra conference every year now dominated by smaller titles. PSX. And this year Sony is considering a European venue.

Wish him the best in all his future endevors, really liked Adam Boyes and always liked when he was in the press conferences. Plus that Post E3 Giant Bomb interview he was in was hilarious

This is sad, he is a great presenter at pressers and seemed to do a great daily job as well. He'll be remembered for some of the most epic announcements in E3 history. Good luck for the future!

2015 E3 was nice but isn't he also the guy who spewed ambiguous exclusivity terms for 2 hours the year before? Eh, I was not a fan of that.

Why do we need to see upcoming indies? Sony's just going to give them to us anyway

PS+ is all indies and i love it

Fair play to him, it's always good to see people willing to take a risk and do what is right for them.

Damn, I always admired his enthusiasm and overall presence while he was on stage. I guess this has something to do with why he did not show up to Sony's E3 presser with his usual indie schtick.

Wonder if there's any weird corporate politics going on in Sony right now.

All the names I've seen leaving lately have been ones associated with supporting niche games on the PlayStation platform. Be it getting a bunch of Indies onto the Vita and PS4, #JRPGVita, and #BuildingTheList - Along with stuff like getting the Yakuza series localized, or stuff like Shenmue 3 and FF7R.

Gio Corsi next probably? ShooterStation 4 incoming.

I'll explain for everyone wondering why he left:

When you get that creative bug to gamedev and are passionate about games - you do you.

That's pretty much it. There's nothing else to ponder. Creative minds need their outlets. All there is to it.

Best of luck to you, Adam!

You'd have a point if Adam left for another similar position but he's leaving to get back into game dev so not really.
