Adam Boyes is Leaving Playstation - Returning to Game Dev

Such a cool cat. There's a level of genuine enthusiasm and personability (as someone that plays games) that Boyes gives off that imo is only exceeded by Shuhei. I'll miss seeing him on stage but I am extremely interested in whatever project he involves himself in.

Damn well that explains why he wasn't on stage at E3 then. Hope for the best for the guy.

Eh, the only Sony people that were present on stage (because AB was at E3) were SIE's President (House) and WWS Chairman (Layden). Given the type of conference they were going for, and the executives that Sony did put out there, it makes sense that Boyes wasn't on stage. I doubt his departure had anything to do with it.

i am actually legitimately depressed by this news. having guys like Shu and Adam helped me from suicide, as pathetic as that is. I guess at this point i can hope he stays in a visible position. I sub to giantbomb pls Adam keep in touch i like you a lot.

Although this certainly is sad news for Playstation (the dude's awesome, let's face it), still hope he's successful in his new endeavours.

Good luck, Adam!

Wish him the best of luck. The E3 game sharing video was legendary. Hoping for a Johnny V RV tour. Wonder if this has to do with the NEO and current 3rd PartySony relations. Its cool he is going back into development. Hopefully this doesn't mean a return of arrogantincompetentSony. Edit. Sorry for crap grammar, posting from phone.

Man what a bummer. I'll miss him in the PS conferences, but wish him the best of luck in development. Huge blow to Sony though.

Some big shoes to fill.

At least he's staying in the industry. You can only be so creative making deals. Hope your happiness grows in your new endeavor Adam

Can the recent departures at Sony have anything to do with the recent Scorpio reveal and the consequent suggested Neo retreat at E3? I mean, do these guys have any responsibility over predicting how much power Scorpio would have in comparison to the Neo in advance of the reveal/leaks?

Lol.

If you want to talk "Real", the reality is that people in high level corporate positions get nudged out all the time when people above them and investors decide they're not driving profits enough - Of course they never get fired and everything's smooth and on the best terms possible because otherwise you get things like #FucKonami and #SonsOfKojima

I'm just saying that him and Shahid may have been encouraged to resign from Sony for their main focus being on supporting niche products rather than more profitable endeavors like securing exclusive DLC for Modern Near-Future Shooter 2016. It's just the reality of how corporations are run.

Edit:

@Jarod I see. In that case I partially retract some of what I said. Must have confused him with someone else.

Gonna keep on eye on where Corsi's career at Sony goes though.
Yes please keep us all posted.

I thought he had a great career ladder. I wouldn't have been surprised if ended up SCEA president some years from now.

I guess the sirens of game dev is too much to resist, huh.

It was great talking to you, and I have all of the time in the world for people following their passions!
You're a good dude Adam. We'll miss seeing you up on stage at E3 for Sony! Hopefully you find success in your new ventures dude. Wishing you the best of luck.

Best wish for whatever game he's gonna develop....I think Sony will always welcome him back with open arms if he wants to return....

In another dimension, sure.

The only people who are going to be departing from their careers because of Scorpio are people involved in Xbox when Scorpio fails.

As for the thing people have been mocking me for daring to say: That's based off actual career experience of coworkers being nudged out rather than being fired to prevent the morale of other employees from dropping - It happens all the damned time. Now in all likelyhood it seems I was wrong here since this wasn't one of the #BuildingTheList/#JRPGVita guys after all, but that scenario is something that easily could happen to them. Nothing nefarious or conspiratorial to it, it's just the reality of how publicly-traded corporations are run when it comes to matters of the corporate bottom-line.

I wish him the best of luck in future endeavors whatever that may be.

Sad times for Sony though. Hopefully they will be able to find someone who cares enough to do the job as well.

Thanks for all the hard work at Playstation Adam!

Of course. Who wouldn't be worried about a console that's nothing more than a concept and coming more than a year away. Sony fucked up. Run Boyes!

Massive loss for Sony, but hopefully Adam can do what he loves and still have a close relationship with Sony. Best of luck Adam from Canada!

He did a lot for PS and was always entertaining whenever you see him. Best of luck to him.

I'm sure this has been posted already but.

On a negative note, this is also the moment where we discovered that PS+ was going to be mandatory. I think I have a screenshot of a Steam chat where one of my buddies watching noted the fine-print at the bottom and started shitting himself in panic.

ryme are his?

I think either Corsi or Shahid were involved in that. Maybe someone else.

For whoever spearheaded that deal, it probably lost them a bit of face within Sony. At the very least #BuildingTheList has profit potential. That, well, they should have made sure that an actual game was being developed and not a CG trailer pretending to be one before ever agreeing to anything. I know I wouldn't want to be involved in accidentally getting money siphoned in a black-hole from the company I work for.

Also it's Rime.

Yeah, they really did copy ico with everything on that game. Ico was straight cgi and they didn't know how to make it for a year or so haha.

World of difference. Creative roadblocks happen all the time when trying to make something innovative.

Rime was literally nothing more than a CG trailer masquerading as gameplay. Development went nowhere. They were literally siphoning funds from Sony and pretending to make something.

It's WWS, so it's either Shu Yoshida or Michael Denny.

Rime has NOTHING to do with #buildingthelist

I still remember the night I hung out with Adam and a bunch of dudes from GAF after Playstation Experience in Las Vegas

Cool time.

Good for him. Adam always seems like a guy who loves gaming in general, not just PlayStation. Being independent allows him to support all consoles and platforms.

Still, he did have two of the greatest moment in the godly E3 2015 conference, so I will miss him.
