This woman on the subway was watching me play, just as I got around to learning strip chaining. Maybe I should keep this one off of public transit.

bad gameplay lol
Hey Tom, just wanted to leave this here to say thanks for not only Akiba's Trip, but all the games you guys bring over. You guys are seriously awesome. :D

(I actually just got Killer is Dead today, but I've had Ragnarok and Senran Kagura for a while now. Just threw those in too because why not. :lol)

Thank you for the full-color manual. I still expect those with Japanese imports, but long gave up on NA releases having them. Was a nice surprise.

A vita game with not only a color manual, but an actual manual? I dont believe it! lol
Xseed seems to have done an awesome job bringing the game, too bad the manual will probably be non existant with the version NISA brings to europe. Would be really suprised if they did.

I think only the PS3 version (maybe the PS4?) version has a color manual.

The Vita version came with your usual new game smell and that's about it.

Yeah Vita had nothing would have been nice to get a manual with it as well. I guess they have to reduce the cost of the Vita version since it will make them less money than the other versions and no manual is an easy way to do it.

PS3. I don't play games on handhelds.

From what hearsay I heard, Sony frowns on basically anything expect the game cart in retail Vita games, lol

Any boss battles in the game?

Yes, though there are no "monsters" or anything like that -- boss battles are all against human opponents (well, vampire opponents, but still!), usually flanked by lackeys.

They're characterized by the unique weapons used by said bosses (which you can, of course, collect after defeating them!), and also by the pinup-style strip portraits you unlock as their clothing is removed. ;)

Oh no, I didn't see the trophy for buying an item at every store. It's gonna be a pain to try & remember where I bought stuff from already.

Edit: If anyone wants, I can type up a list of the stores so it can be easier to keep track of where you need to visit.

Thanks for the response Tom. I picked the game up on PS3 but haven't opened it yet. Might return it and wait for PS4 version. Undecided.

That feel when the game tells me to go somewhere but doesn't have an exact map marker but I can find the place from IRL memory...

This game is pretty cool, guys.

I know what you mean. Went on a trip there one summer and I'm really looking forward to returning to spots I spent a lot of time at.

Hey Tom, just wanted to bring something to your attention:
When you do the little shopping bit with Kati and return to UD+, there is no audio on her dialogue

Edit: no audio for the man they meet either

Still no update from Best Buy and other similar Canadian retailers. :(

I need this game now!

[Reading this thread and hearing the positive impressions of those that are enjoying it is pure agony!]

Edit - It seems Amazon.ca has theirs, but Best Buy still doesn't [of course this is the one time I actually go with them instead of Amazon since Best Buy was the only one offering the game during the recent E3 promotion]. Here's hoping Best Buy receives/ships out their copies soon, I'd really like to play this one over the weekend if I could.

Okay just started the game. Initial impressions are kinda mixed. I'm enjoying the oddly weird world and style. My only gripe so far is how janky the main character moves. Not fluid at all. I'm still trying to figure out combat at the moment. I totally get how to remove garments. Blocking seems to be to slow to even use. Is there anyway to switch targets? I could have sworn the game said it was one of the shoulder buttons but it didn't seem to do it. Also are there any additional combo attacks you can do? All it seems at the moment is triangle, circle and X attacks. Also I had trouble with the counter mechanic. The game said to move away and attack as the hit comes but it seemed like my character was delayed to move to much for it to work. If anybody can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I'm gonna jump back in.

Yeah, to add to my previous like of the VA, I remember back when Tom was on here talking about all the Bro stuff and how they were going to do it and we actually got into a decent discussion about it.

Good thing, because the Bro stuff she says now works so well with her character. If it was just Brotagonist or such it would come off a little odd but all the variations really keep it funny and in character.

That being said, I'm enjoying this quite a bit and not quite sure why it's getting some middling scores. Then again, that seems to be a common thread with a lot of games I like. Kenka Bancho didn't do to hot either from what I recall.

Wow, looking for the vending machine with the Oden for Nana was tough.

I looked all over the area 5 times before I noticed it was a blue vending machine in a corner.

That's... odd. There definitely should be, and has been every time we've played through that section. And it would be a shame to miss this part, too, since the dude's voice there is smooth as butter.

Has anyone else experienced this?

This is one of those games with a steady progression of new moves introduced over the first few hours (so as not to overwhelm players all at once), so things do get a little more complex and interesting as time goes on. I can definitely say that what you've encountered so far is NOT all there is, at the very least.

Plus, those triangle, O and X button moves vary COMPLETELY from one weapon to another, so if you really need more variety, you can just equip something different and see what all has changed -- which I'd recommend anyway, since discovering the best weapon for your play style is pretty crucial in the end.

As for the unblockable super-move, try holding the block button while performing it. Holding the block button locks you in place, so you can pull the analog stick away from the enemy without moving, making it a cinch to pull off every time.

So, Nana wanted to give me a sub mission I think, and I didn't have enough room for it! So I did some and came back later (probably did a main mission too) and now she doesn't want to give it to me anymore. Does this mean I missed it or will she try to give it to me later? :(

Yeah, nothing for me yet either.

If it wasn't for the E³ promotion, I'd order another copy right now, and return the extra copy. But alas, I must wait. And wait. And wait. :/

Bought the game last night, and have probably put in an hour so far and I'm really enjoying it. Combat is fun, the visuals are sharp (Vita version here), and I love the atmosphere. Nice impulse buy so far.

Where is the shop in the mission "deliver the goods"? I have been all over junk town and haven't seen it!

Yep, an hour passes and I'm still stuck. Where do I bring the black panther story item in junk town?

I'm pretty undecided about this game.. i couldn't get into monster hunting because of the loading.

is there any exploration in this game?

Well, you explore Akibahara. It's pretty big.

There is loading between the different sections, but there's a quick travel option that alleviates most of that. If loading is something that truly bothers you though, it might be best to wait for the PS4 version.

Yeah quick travel is a must. Anytime I get a new mission I just hit select on the map, and quick travel so I only get hit with ONE loading screen, vs 4 or 5.

Honestly... there is to an extent, but if you absolutely require exploration in your games, then Akiba's Trip probably isn't the game for you, as exploration is a very minor part of the experience. This game is strictly all about the story, the satire and the combat. Everything else is incidental.

As other have noted, though, the load times aren't really that bad if you use fast-travel. They last... I'd say 3 seconds at least, 10 seconds at most, and if you fast-travel, you'll only load ONCE before each major story scene and street brawl. So at worst, you'll experience 10 seconds of loading per 10-30 minutes of play.

Well, I finally got a copy! I just couldn't wait any longer, so I bought a second one from another store locally. I'll just return the extra copy.

Now, to finally play this game! The Vita deluge begins~

Hmm, so when can I enter m's & Dear Stage? Otherwise, I'm sure I've bought the cheapest thing I could from all the shops so far....unless I unlock more areas later on.

Curses, I hope this doesn't lock me out of the other sister quests. A lot of the side missions I took were happening at the same place as the main missions so I was forced to do the main missions to do the side missions! I'm guessing this means I can't do the sister end anymore.

Don't think it's worth starting over for though, since I have to do NG+ anyway to Plat I guess. Thanks for the reply, Tom!

If you want the Plat, you'll have to play through multiple times. Just get it next time. (You'll need to do her sidequests twice to get everything anyway, the last mission has two outcomes.)

Yep, I get that! I was looking over the trophy guide on PlaystationTrophies.org to give me a good idea on how to Plat it as quickly as possible but, it's not all that detailed so I didn't really realize how easy it was to miss some stuff!

You can't. Those two are just there for the ambiance. (m's, in real life, is a straight-up porn superstore, so I'm not sure there's any way it could've actually been incorporated into the game without crossing the line into CERO Z / ESRB AO territory! Heheh)

So i turned the Vita onto standby mode and just came back to it. The audio was still absent on that scene. But then i accidentally hit the start button and the game paused. When I unpaused it, the audio was on in the middle of Kati's sentence...

Are there any real differences between the vita and PS3 versions? Because I was thinking about getting this game for Vita but I don't want any huge downgrades.

If anything, the Vita version is probably the more technically sound of the two, as the PS3 version tends to experience (very slightly) greater frame drops (arguably?) and takes longer to save and load. The only real downside to the Vita version is that the text for emails and Pitter looks particularly tiny on the Vita's screen, making it harder to read than in the PS3 version. As long as you're OK with tiny text, though, there's no need to worry about buying an inferior product by going with Vita.

I got a question. Does trophy progress carry over to New Game+ or does it have to be in one playthrough? Stuff like side quests, ads and clothes count ect.

Ads and clothes, definitely, since the ads and clothes themselves are directly inherited into your New Game+ playthrough.

Side quests, I'm not so sure. Those reset with each playthrough, New Game+ or no.

Heh, I'm enjoying the game a lot so far. The English voice acting is really great, and the dialogue is pretty funny and clever.

Though now I'm sad there's no Kati route... If I can't get with a guy, I'd pick her for sure.

SERIOUSLY.

I was so broken up about that when I first started playing. Kati was destined to be my waifu... but that dream was so quickly shattered! ;)

Maybe the dildo and tentacle weapons from the Saint's Row games could have found a new home. :x

That's actually the one really jarring thing about seeing Akiba in this game... all the stores are PG-rated in-game. Whereas you walk into a place like K-Books or Toranoana in real life and they're... not.
