Alan Wake 2 to be revealed this year!?

Wouldn't it be great if they turned Bright Falls into a full series that is going to be exclusively distributed on Xbox Video? It's like their San Fran studio and the media exec they hired would be perfect to handle something like that ...

That would be too good. So not happening :/

Brightfalls season one eh? Yup, season two confirmed! To be fair it would fit Microsofts vision of wanting to add more multimedia content and that show did very well for views on youtube and was damn good in itself. Would love to see more of that again, they should try to make it a full tv series sometime.

I'm interested to see if AW2 goes to the more open world game play that they originally planned for AW.

If anyone from Remedy/Microsoft reads this: Bright Falls is amazing! Do more with it. Phillip Van did a great job with the series. Also, Alan Wake is one of the best things going for you. I want more.

I don't believe his lie.

He's obviously an evil robot sent from the future to convince us all to give up hope on a true Alan Wake sequel, thus causing the developer to lose all their motivation, which will then lead to the actual cancellation of the game.

...I'll wait for a PC release. I loved Alan Wake, but I can't be motivated currently to buy another Microsoft console.

Yeah I'll be waiting for the PC release of the next Alan Wake game also, since Alan Wake is the only Xbox exclusive franchise I'm interested in.

They were right about Drive Club? Any link?

My source has told me that PGR5, Alan Wake 2, an unnamed Epic game and of course Destiny were going to be launch titles.

Destiny is scheduled for 2014?!

Regardless of when it launches, I do expect the game to be temporarily exclusive to the Nextbox.

Of course Remedy are working on a new Alan Wake. It's at least set in that universe. If not, they're working on a new IP which would be suicidal, or maybe they're working on a new Halo game for Microsoft, but that seems incredibly unlikely. And if they weren't planning to make Alan Wake 2, then why would they have made American Nightmare?

American Nightmare got released and they fully jumped on the next project - they did not even make DLC despite there being an option in the main menu.
Their iOS project is a new IP.

I hope it's more like the amazing original game and not that backtacking garbage American Nightmare.

While I like aspects of American Nightmare, I do agree I liked the original game more. However, American Nightmare they made very clear before release that this was being made with it being a digital title in-mind and would have a different tone for its setting and spin-off status, with a stronger action focus. I am pretty sure the sequel would be more in-line with the original tone but maybe with spices in combat and possibly hub-like stages from American Nightmare also being present. My guess is that the tone for the sequel will be different again, though.

Don't MS own the ip?

I think its possible it will see a PC release ( considering how well it did) but the ps4 is out of the question.

720 only= I will get the 720, one day ( depending on the price) as this is without a doubt the best game on the 360 ( but better on the PC)

Either way, I hope its more like aw1 THAN aw:an, something about American nightmares lost its charm that you saw in AW1.

Hope the driving and day missions are still in, really enjoyed that part and the scenery was amazing.

Don't MS own the ip?

Remedy owns the IP, but presumably Microsoft would need to sign off on a port to another console (Remedy needed Microsoft's "blessing" to belatedly complete the PC version), which isn't going to happen for obvious reasons. A PC version is a distinct possibility and arguably even likely, however expect to wait.

360. I kind of remember it getting panned, am I wrong?

Kinda. It did pretty well in terms of reviews (most reviews were in the 7-9 range), but had initial mixed reception with gamers. However, the general opinion on it has actually risen quite a bit in the last year, since the PC release and more gamers gave it a shot (helped that the PC port of Alan Wake is fantastic).

It's not for everyone, and even as a huge fan of it I would change a few things about it if I could (I actually enjoy the combat even if I enjoy the exploration and story moments more, but the enemy selection is fairly limited and makes combat sometimes drag a bit, for example), but I found it to have an atmosphere and world that I really enjoyed and could get really immersed into, and I actually found quite a few of the gameplay segments fun (special mention gets thrown to both Episode 4 and Episode 8 (Special Feature 2, which is The Writer DLC in the 360 version but part of the default game on the PC), which are my absolute favorite chapters in the game).

The game didn't sell well because the premise is really soft for a big budget game. Also I find that the type of game they have and the story they have don't match each other at all.

You go in expecting a story focused horror thriller, and you get a 3rd person shooter where the flashlight is a key gameplay factor.

I just didn't get it.

It reviewed well, it just didn't sell particularly well considering its marketing push and protracted development period.
Yeah compared to other MS titles it sold awful initially. They kinda saved it in the long run with digital sales and bundles, so while they probably managed to break even I still doubt MS is happy with the performance after a development time of 5 years (and 7 years after Max Payne 2).

At least Remedy proved with American Nightmare that they can work faster now with the engine in place and a clear vision behind it. I don't think MS would be really interested in a full retail Alan Wake for 360 anymore, but as a launch title for Durango it is probably alright since groundbreaking sales aren't expected.

Only interested if it's on PC and if they tone down the repetitive combat and push up other elements (stealth horror I'd love to see explored for example) and make better use of the idea of episodic segments in the vein of Twin Peaks - which for me means focusing on different strands/characters in each segment building towards the total story arc not replaying the same limited combat scenario across a bunch of different locations in a "go there next" sequence.

I guess we'll never get to hear how this story concludes now.

I was so set in my beliefs that Alan Wake 2 was what Remedy was working on, that it became the reason I'd purchase the next Xbox. Now I'm not entirely sure. Back to the waiting closet.
