Amazing Spider-Man Game Informer details

•Near the beginning you'll see capsules with different Spider-Man villains, such as Rhino, Vermin, and Scorpia. Rhino has already been confirmed as a villain for the game and as a Gamestop pre-order bonus mode where you play as Rhino

Fantastic.

Oh god it sounds so promising. Please be at least as good as Spider-Man 2.

Haven't played a Spidey game since 3 on the PS3 and so far this seems like a must buy.

I wish they'd put out some extended gameplay footage for this game already. All we have are trailers and mag previews. Still, sounds good so far. Really hope it delivers.

Only game to have momentum, skill & weight based web swinging physics.
The rest of the Spider-Man games, you could turn or accelerate in any direction on a dime. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!

Sort of like...Spider-Man?

Spider-Man 2 wasn't all that, although it was certainly impressive for the time. For my money Web of Shadows hit the right balance between Spider-Man 2's web swinging and the oversimplified "autoswinging." Shame Shaba was never allowed to follow up on it and refine their ideas in more Spidey games.

Funny thing is Batman AA/AC combat is a directly ripped off from Ultimate Spider-Man.
So it comes full circle.

Haha, wow. Never would even attempt to make that claim. Really, really reaching there.

If the combat is as good as Web of Shadows' was, then I'm sold. I wish more Spidey games would stop being open-world, though. I'm kinda sick of them.

Well, good news for you.

Also, anyone know if there's anything preventing Activision from putting Neversoft's Spider-Man on PSN? Disney owns Marvel now, and there's quite a few Disney PS1 games on there.

There was a new game after Shattered Dimensions? Wow, I had no clue. I still haven't had a chance to purchase SD yet.

I loathe Activision with the heat of a billion suns, but I'm a diehard Spider-Man fan. I'm incredibly torn, as I don't want to give Activision my money, but I love playing Spider-Man when given the chance in games.

Ugh. I'll keep my eye out on this one, and maybe get it when it's discounted heavily.

Buy Shattered Dimensions (on any console or DS, all are awesome) and avoid Edge of Time. Even Beenox admitted that they rushed that game, because of the annual releases and been already working on 'Amazing'.

I recently suffered a case of Spiderman-itis so I'm glad if this turns out to be decent. Spider-Man games are like Silent Hill games for me, I'd buy them no matter their quality (except if they are terribad like 3 and Friend or Foe).

I'm sure it's my inner child trying to revive the Neversoft Spiderman memories.

I so wish Activision would drop the Spider-man license, or at least find another developer.

I played Spiderman 2 and Ultimate Spiderman just yesterday, back to back (to try the controls again) and it's incredible the step back they made from SM2 to USM.
No chargable jump, no wall-run, no dual webshot (to stay stationary in mid-air), no boost; Ultimate Spiderman is incredibly slower and dumbed down, as far as navigation goes.

I hope this game will nail that part, at least.

I liked it, did you beat johnny storm in all his races? the swinging speed gets pretty fast.

Not all of them, no (they got pretty frustrating, from what i can remember).
It can get pretty fast, but SM2's boost was (though not realistic) still faster, you swinged and pushed the trigger, boosting like crazy, with a couple of well done boosted swing, you were a missile.
More over, the boost was also used to modify the jump: You could jump vertically (again, with the charged jump, an awesome idea) or old the boost and jump straight forward (similar to what Venom does in USM, in a way) combining all those + wall run, made for some pretty fast and awesome navigation.
I think Ultimate was a better game overall, but i liked the navigation in SM2 much more.
EDIT: Also, in SM2 you kept the right trigger pressed to swing, and pressed it quickly to shoot the web and zip forward; this was also changed in USM, though i'm not sure if it was just remapped or removed all together.

boost jump (the first in the video) for those who didn't play the game.

true, I still go back to SM2 just to swing around the city. I never played SM3 was the swinging just as good as SM2's?

We'll see if it's actually reaches the levels of Spider-man 2 (which honestly only got the dodging and web-swinging part right) or just continues the downward spiral, Ultimate Spider-man being an exception.

Oh spiderman 2 man. Web slinging was sooooooo good. Just spend time slinging through the city. Give me that with better graphics and more things to do. Put as little work on the story mode as possible.

combat in web of shadows was so, so good and satisfyingly acrobatic.

Shame the rest of the game was trash. Hopefully this will be the first spiderman game that manages to get web swinging, combat AND design right. Maybe.

Never bought it; i was a little burned from Ultimate Spiderman, and its bad reviews made me pass on it.
Also i spent an awful amount of hours just swinging about in SM2 and a great deal in Ultimate, it was becoming a little old, without anything else to go for.
In this sense, the Neversoft games were the best ones, true work of passion for the character, filled with easter eggs and stuff.

Anyway, it's been a while, so i guess i'm ready to hop back in the character, as long as the swinging is good and there's something else to it.

Lizard/Connors doesn't really matter. This is the untold story of Spider-Man, which clearly means we'll actually be playing as the radioactive/genetically altered Spider the whole time and not realise it.

It's posts like this that makes me thing they should just make a city game with no people or events just for people to swing around in as a XBLA/PSN/eShop. That way those that who only want that, no fighting or story or bosses or anything to make it an action game can have something without need to constantly say every other Spider-Man game should just be like Spider-Man 2 movie game.

Hmm, I think I made this same argument about Prince of Persia 2008 sequel and Mirror's Edge.

“This wasn’t easy for me, practicing all these moves. I’m just afraid when they see me do it, that may put Spider-Man in the shadows," Lee jokes. “I hope they don’t have me looking too realistic and life-like. That would be tough for the Spider-Man fans. I swung through the city like an average guy would do, instead of giving it my usual derring-do.”

Stan Lee is literally the coolest man on the planet. The shit he says is always perfect.

Hoping this will be good but I'm not expecting much of anything really.

The last Spider-Man game I really enjoyed was Ultimate Spider-Man, but I haven't played that in years.
