Amiibo: E3 info on Nintendo's NFC Figure line

You know why these are so appealing? Nintendo don't merchandise. When was the last time you saw widely circulated Animal Crossing/Metroid/Star Fox figures?!
For sure. Also, they are being handled internally. These aren't some crappy licensed things. These are true Nintendo products.

Actually ... he was kinda announced in the Pacman trailer and IGN said that everyone from smash will have an amiibo.. so....
My post was poorly worded. I as well full expect that he will be announced.

I think you nailed it, though I'm not sure if amoeba is actually part of it :)

Possibly not :-) It's just the first word that popped into my head when I heard it, and I can't imagine that connection wasn't at least considered. Would be interesting to read an Iwata Asks on Amiibo at some point (if they ever restart :-/)

I think amoeba fits. The character's form/use changes for different games.

Either way, I am so freaking screwed if the whole roster is going to have a figure. I'm a sucker for two things, video games and toys. This combines both. And even if I'm not really a user of a certain character in the game, it doesn't mean I don't like them enough to want a decent quality figurine of them.

So what are the odds that Nintendo treats these as "life-time passes" for their games, so if, for example, Mario Kart had a Pikmin bundle, you could pay 3 dollars or so for a bulborb kart/winged pikmin glider, etc, but if you had the olimar trophy, it'd just download. Then extend that to other games that include pikmin themed dlc,

That way, those who don't want pikmin toys
what's wrong with you
can still have access to dlc they want to get, but there's incentive to have the toy itself, and it continuously benefits the owner. Good idea, bad idea?

I know I'll end up buying a lot of these, and, again, not because I care about beaming anything into anything. It's just not often that we get nice Nintendo figures in stores.

Of the ones pictured, I know I'd get Samus, Zelda, Link, Kirby, and Marth. If there's a Zero Suit Samus I'm there, if there's Shiek I'm there -- and, well, this is gonna be costly. But I love 'em.

NintendoLife has some excellent pictures and videos of them including packaging shots (presumably not final).

Even the package looks phenomenal.
This for the same price as the disney infinty figures (10 euros) and on chritmas, figures like Mario and Yoshi (already sell amazingly to kids with those hard plastic figures they been selling lately), Pikachu (of course) and Peach (the best selling figures in infinty are the princesses) could seel gangbusters.

But I thing the best thing of all this is seeing characters that would never in a hundred years get an affordable figure in the west, Samus, Marth, Ness, Palutena, Little Mac... and random things like Mr Game & Watch are going to get figures.
Its just ana amazing thing for Nintendo fans.

If all the smash characters are released at the end, this is the ones that im going to get day 1:
-Peach (they already exist but this is the best Peach figure ive ever seen)
-Samus
-Little Mac
-Marth
-Ness
-Rosalina
-Palutena
-Pacman
-Megaman
-Zero Suit Samus
-Fox
-Link and Zelda
-
Ridley
:(

And thats without counting thing that will probably be bought becasuethey are classics, like Mario and Kirby.

I'm fearful that we will find ourselves in a situation where there will be variations on characters. So, not only will you have a Mario figure, but you'll have a Smash Mario, a Mario Kart Mario, a Mario Party Mario, etc. I know they said they didn't expect people to collect them all, but you know a lot still will.

Provided there isn't any gameplay-lockout hidden - "You need the Mario Party Mario Amiibo to FULLY enjoy this game!" etc. - then I don't see too much of a problem with multiple versions.
