I don't even see the point with a capacitive screen. I've had an HTC hero since launch, not a scratch on it.

in theory, I COULD break the glass with some serious abuse, but I don't see a screen protector stopping that.
 
I got some generic screen protector from a kiosk in a mall or w/e because I needed it badly. I usually keep my phone in my jacket pocket during cold seasons like winter, but during the summer I carry it in pockets with my keys and what not. I might invest in a belt clip or something *hm

EDIT: Can someone recommend me a leather belt case that is big enough to hold an HTC Magic with a rubber case around it?

Screen protectors are only necessary for plastic screens IMO. The glass screen on my iTouch has been immaculate for almost 6 months now, very scratch resistant.

I just realised that the HTC Legend isn't compatible with US 3G networks, hence the lack of talk.
 
They don't scratch much, but will chip and crack. I pretty much shattered the screen on my Hero a few weeks back. I haven't bought a replacement because the touch still works just fine, even pinching. I can read everything just fine, it just looks ugly. I kinda want to wait for the Evo, but maybe I'll just have someone buy me a new screen for my upcoming birthday. PEACE.
 
I've got a slight 1" long scratch on my Storm screen. No idea how it got there, it's impossible to see unless the screen is off and the light is right.

Tons of Incredible reviews are up. Engadget's is particularly positive.

It must take a bit of work. I've had a Zune 80 with a glass screen for a few years and often keep it in the same pocket as my keys, but it doesn't have any visible scratches. And supposedly some smart phone makers are using Gorilla Glass which should be even more durable.

Huh. :O Curious to how the next iPhone and EVO will contest for the crown now, the gauntlet has been thrown. HTC may have taken almost two years to do it, but they're finally running Android on the hardware it deserves and I couldn't be happier. And in fact they seem to be flooding the market with a bunch of these Android "superphones." Android is so going to dominate this year. :D The Incredible + Verizon combo might beat the pants off almost everything else.
 
argh.. If it wasn't for the Evo coming out, I would even overlook Verizon's overpriced plans to get this. The unboxing video is gnawing at me.
 
i'm still not totally leaning either way in terms of looks re desire vs incred .. bugger.

i'm going to import one of these at the end of the month so really does come down to one of the two for me. fucck....

incred has full multitouch and Fm radio like desire huh?
 
Ya, multi-touch/capacitive screen performance is said to be better than the N1. FM radio is there.

The Desire is my perfect device (hardware buttons, optical trackpad). Shame Verizon didn't just bring that over and give it a light facelift, like all black or something.

One of the carriers has a black version, forget which though.
 
Sigh this is the phone I've been waiting for but since I have to wait til June to get it I feel like I should wait for the Moto Shadow.

My brother got the HTC Desire on the weekend, and being the lovely brother that I am, I've taken it off him to play with at every opportunity. My girlfriend has the HTC Hero, so that is my only reference point for Android phones, but the Desire is just an upgrade in every single way.

  • UI is faster and more responsive
  • Screen is brighter and has brilliant colour depth (the Live wallpapers really show this off)
  • Camera has a lot more features and options now, and the LED flash is very welcome, its now a phone you can whip out to use even in low-light conditions.
  • Given that I never use the trackball the less-obtrusive trackpad is a welcome addition
  • Slimline, with no chin to speak of.
  • 2.1 feels a lot more user-friendly, just the little icons and the addition of some extra text make the settings easier to navigate

My only complaints are that at the moment it doesn't feel that HTC are really getting everything they can out of that Snapdragon processor. No Divx/Xvid support out the box is disappointing, Samsung are managing it across most of their 'smartphone' line-up, not sure why HTC are lagging behind. But HTC are pretty good with their product updates, hopefully they'll be more to come in the next few months. And the lock key being on the top of the phone isn't the greatest positioning in my opinion, given the size of the phone.


Needless to say, I am very, very jealous.....

.... very jealous indeed. 3 months left on my contract, and at the moment I can't see anything else that is going to come close in terms of sheer value for money.

yeh ..i like the desire too .. fuk ..well actually i'm not sure the incred will even work here in NZ so think i'm going with the desire by default. would like a black one though.

The way AT&T's treating Android is really pissing me off. i hope the Desire or the T-Mobile variation of the Incredible reaches T-Mobile as it definitely won't hit AT&T.

Sure, at least in areas where you have 3G on 850MHz. Problem is it'll cost more than the standard UK version which is already pricy. i wish HTC offered phones unlocked with AT&T 3G. Or that the Verizon Incredible was a world phone.

i'll probably end up with an HD2. Windows Mobile is fine by me, though i'd really like an Android or WebOS device to play with.
 
So how easy is tethering on the nexus one? I just ordered a laptop and I want connectivity at work, where I sit behind an awful firewall that blocks most of the sites I like to visit. I own an iPhone which doesn't tether (can't jailbreak), so I'm serioslusly considering a nexus one if tethering is easy.

Do you mean the 'HTC Sense' live wallpaper or live wallpapers on Sense? I.e. are other live wallpapers better?

I was gonna get the Desire day one but decided to wait and experience it first hand before buying, mostly because I love my hero and any upgrade to it had to be a real upgrade. Unfortunately I had one in my hand this weekend and the snappiness didn't impress me much. In fact I found it slower than my Hero (which admittedly is an optimized custom rom) but if you're saying it's because of the live wallpaper, I'll give it a shot again.

Very Easy! just download PDA-net from the market and then the program to run on your computer and either connect through usb or bluetooth.

Well something from Motorola with Verizon Frequencies went frough the FCC on 3/24 and it's carrying a 1500 mAh battery sure it doesn't mean it's the Motorola Shadow but that's the rumor.

i've tried the senseUI due to all of the gushing but i dont really like it that much over stock android (i actually use a home replacement, but it doesnt really change that much besides allow more screens and rotating on home screen)

Any live wallpaper is going to drain your battery to some extent; some are worse than others. Plenty of the free ones out there on the marketplace suck battery more than Sense.

I just ordered online. Got the two year price plus the $100 online rebate. I Didn't have to talk to any reps. I can't wait to get it. Does anyone know when this will support flash 10?

besides some small things like a front facing camera and other things, there really isnt anything in the pipeline that is going to be "better" then the nexus one. All of the phones roughly have the same hardware

I don't find it at all unsnappy with the live wallpapers. But the one I tried over the weekend drained almost as much battery as the WiFi connection (about 20% of the battery life).

I use the Neural Network wallpaper and I checked my battery use when my battery hit 15% from a full charge, the live wallpaper had only used 2%. Which one were you using?

Can't remember the name, but it had ragdoll androids.
 
I love my Desire! It can do everything I want from a phone and more.

It is so fast and the screen is awesome.

Really??? Comparing a Sense UI skin over Android on a handset a month old to Windows Mobile 6.1(not even the latest stock os) without Sense?

REally!???!? SE mobs dont have sense??++11

Also, sense dont matter much on android since it's just a clock with a weather widget.
Sense matter on Winmob since it completely overhauls how you interact with it.

it really isn't a fair comparison, at all

And the Incredible is a better phone, as is the Desire. If i'm spending $500+ on a phone, i'm getting what i want. i'd take a T-Mobile version of either of them and run it on AT&T EDGE over buying the AT&T N1.

i actually prefer the block layout WM Sense look over the widget desktop look of Android Sense myself. Of course i liked the more stark look of TouchFlo 3D (precursor to Sense) before they really started to needlessly beautify it.
